Olfactif Artisan Perfume Subscription: November

November's Olfactif theme is "Layered," not only in scarves and cardigans and sweaters, but multi-layered fragrances as well. Scents that morph and twist and reveal bits of themselves one accord or note at a moment. Olfactif remains $18/month shipped and my favorite subscription box to date.

The vials transitioned to a larger capacity recently, but the same amount of liquid is dispensed. One was a smaller amount this month due to its value. That happens if a particular scent is costly and very understandable.

1826 by Histoires de Parfums- Notes include: Bergamot, tangerine, white flowers, violet, cinnamon, ginger, patchouli, amber, incense, blonde woods, white musk, vanilla.

Though a couple of decades before her time, this fragrance could have easily graced the air around Madame Bovary. Perfumed pomades on the gentlemen, ginger spiced tea in bone china cups, bouquets of white flowers to adorn a French countryside home. The images and metaphors that flick through my mind in sepia tones embrace and confirm the sheer vintage feel of this scent. This is the aroma lifting from a hand tatted lace handkerchief found carelessly tossed aside at an estate sale. The scent swirling out of a velvet lined jewelry box that had nestled tarnished cameos for a hundred years in darkness. Press flowers, vellum books, and always that lurking  dried citrus peel. A full bottle of this fragrance is $125.

La Fin du Monde by Etat Libre d'Orange- Notes include: Popcorn, carrot seed, cumin, sesame, black pepper, freesia, vetiver, sandalwood, ambrette seed, iris, styrax, gunpowder.

This is one of those you want to spray again and again and again to experience the explosive opening,  rockets launching, the bombardment of contradictions: floral, astringent, sweet, prickly, spiced, papery, curry, and popcorn?! Just when you think the fireworks were here then gone- that it was a dream, gunpowder charcoal stains your nostrils with soot. So it was real. The fireworks did happen. Then softly you float downward from the combustions still ringing in your mind's nose on a cloud of powdery iris. A full bottle of this fragrance is $85.

Trayee by Neela Vermeire Creations- Notes include: Blue ginger from Madagascar, elemi oil, cinnamon bark, ganja effects, blackcurrant, basil, jasmine, cadramom, clove, saffron, sandalwood, vetiver, incense, patchouli, myrrh, vanilla, cedar, amber, oud, oakmoss.

Trayee is precious indeed. I have had the pleasure of wearing and owning this perfume as a part of the Neela Vermeire Creations Discovery Coffret. I purchased this past September. Trayee offers up its ginger, vetiver and spices readily on my skin, sharp peridot notes smoothed by a veil of ivory sandalwood and amber. This fragrance remains a serene multi-faceted beauty. A full bottle of this fragrance is $260.

I love each of these fragrances. Having already owned Trayee, I would probably purchase La Fin du Monde first, but 1826 is not far behind on the wish list. Which of these fragrances calls to you to sniff?
