Haus of Gloi: Birthday and Selkie Soaps

These Haus of Gloi soaps were a part of those winnings I received in the Facebook jewelry group I mentioned in the Moonalisa post. These are my very first full sized Haus of Gloi bar soaps. In the past I was gifted a sliver of Parking from Lauren but I cannot recall any other Haus soaps that I have tried though I probably have at some point. Haus soaps run $5 to $6 a bar.

Haus Birthday- Wild Cascadian huckleberries, buttercream frosting, clove spiced cake and wisps of incense all grounded into a base of Haus Amber.
With a description like that, how can it not be delectable? And look how lovely. The dark berries and toothsome cake are balanced with golden amber and incense, sweet, resinous and seductive. It lathered like a dream, slicking immediately and gratifyingly when water touched the sliver. White billowing lather churned from between my rubbing hands. It cleaned wonderfully and rinsed clean and complete without residue. Unfortunately, this bar is no longer for sale but there are several other Haus Birthday products left and they are catching my eye.

Selkie- The break of waves, gurgling sea foam, kelp, rain tinged air, sand smoothed driftwood and wild sage.
An oceanic delight. The soft herbal greenery of sage buffets the ozone and aquatic notes. This makes a brilliant clean soap scent that is refreshing and a touch stormy. It performed just like Haus Birthday, lathering quickly and melding with the water instantly to decrease the amount of friction needed to generate abundant lather. It was not soft and melty at all, just very pliant to the water and easy to work with. This scent is still on the site under the Spring release. It is $6.00.

Have you ordered from Haus of Gloi lately? I did grab a two refreshers from the Summer release, my first time trying those, and two small body butters. I cannot wait to share with you guys. Have you tried their refreshers? What do you think?

    1. I see they reformulated them. I picked up Chillax and Peppermint Wood. How lovely do those sound after a hot day at the beach, hiking or right before bed?! I can't wait to hear which ones you picked out.

    3. I chose Peppermint Wood also. So glad you love the soaps, the original HoG soaps were on the soft and melty side, and then Britton started using palm oil. I forget what her analogy was but it was something like being a baker and then using yeast for the first time, much different result although I like both versions.

    4. We will be smelling yummy. :-)

That is cool! I saw Tiggy was making some palm free soaps, so I wonder why adding is like using yeast but then others are trying to make it palm free? Soaping facinates me. The pure chemistry of it all.

    5. Palm makes a harder bar, for sure, but there are concerns about sustainability and the manufacturing practices to obtain and produce palm oil.

    6. I believe the controversy is around orangutan habitat, you might see a soap say "sustainably grown palm oil" meaning it did not involve displacing animals, but some makers want to avoid using it altogether. The Handmade in Florida palm free is probably the least melty I have tried. Some day I will blog about the class I took last summer!

    7. When you're feeling soap nerdy this is a great website.

    8. AH! I just bought a couple bags of Palm wax to play with. I will need to research if that is sustainably harvested. Thanks for the info and link! I know Tiggy oversold on her new Palm free soap so it must be something people want. I would love to read about your class Jean. Thanks too Deb for the info.

I haven't ordered from Haus of Gloi for some time but I am currently using their pumpkin butter in Troika scent as my hand cream.

    1. It is a lighter oil in water fragrance spray that softly moisturizes and scents the skin. Mostly for summer scenting I assume. I remember you being a little let down by your beloved Troika. I hope your summer skin enjoys it more. I just can't get enough of their scents. They are all so yummy.

    2. Hmm, I'll have to go check those out.

I used up my orange cream from another vendor and decided I was going to use this Troika cream regardless. I have it, I'll use it!

    3. Yeah, I tend to use up product too unless I outright loath it.

  3. Why have I never tried Haus of Gloi before? I knew of it way before my wax days, when I was mainly into nail art and hand care. There are too many vendors out there. How can I hope to try them all?!

Selkie sounds like a divine soap! I can't wait to see how their body butters work for you. :)

    1. Haus of Gloi is pretty amazing and worth trying out. I am a huge fan of their pumpkin butters. My skin laps it up. Selkie is one of my favorite legends do it is fun to have a soap named after one.
