Bath & Body Works Candle: Vanilla Snowflake

Vanilla Snowflake is a candle from Bath & Body Works that I have eyed several times over the years. The idea of coconut and vanilla is a favorite, but every time I whiff it on cold I was just not that impressed. Enough ladies on IG raved about this one this year that I figured, what the hey. And I bought it.

It burned well. Great pool. Strong flames. Even a healthy throw. But the scent just fell flat. I get this artificial plastic undertone from the coconut vanilla and it just bores me.

I will still finish it up for candle burning sake, but I will not be repurchasing Vanilla Snowflake.

  1. I wasn't impressed with this scent either. I had that little mini one, which was a dud, but even on cold sniff it was a bit 'Eeuw.'

    1. Right! You know how sometimes when you burn or melt a scent the plastic tone wears off and it smells wonderful. Transformed. This one did not quite make that jump. After reading your review of the mini I knew it would be iffy, but I had already bought it. It is terrible. Just not worth a re-buy for me.

  2. Oh, boo - I hate dud candles! I'm just finishing up a Twisted Peppermint from 2015, and it's going to go strong right until the very final second, but a Peppermint Marshmallow guy I got this year flamed out (wah-waaaahh) hard - it got all sooty and ick smelling. :(

Seriously, though, what's up with BBW and poorly done holiday coconut scents? They're frighteningly bad.

    1. Yeah. Duds suck. But ya just never know. I loved Twisted Peppermint in my girls' rooms this year but a couple years back I had one that got all sooty and smoky smelling like you described Peppermint Marshmallow. I wonder why that happens. I try not to burn them too long at a time. I love mint but I think I prefer it in wax tarts. More of a pure smell.

Right. And I appreciate a good coconut. Boo.

  3. I had the exact same problem 2 years ago! This is the most artificial candle I've ever smelled and I won't repurchase it, which is sad because I love vanilla and coconut. Fortunately there are a lot of other BBW candles I do love. I think I have the artificial issue with most prominently vanilla based BBW candles. I just reviewed a bunch of them and had this problem to a lesser extent with Buttercream Icing, Lavender Vanilla and VBN. The only one that hasn't done it to me is Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla. Love that one!

    1. I kinda reminds me of a vanilla scented plastic baby doll. I love vanilla and coconut too but I think you are onto something. BBW vanillas are hit or miss for sure. I do like Warm Vanilla Sugar but it tends to be really light.

  4. This is one thing I always have to pass on. Every year I try it in store and every year I put the candle down after violent flashbacks to bad times with coconut rum.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but it makes me glad that I'm not missing out on anything! :P

    1. LOL! I agree. For me it wasn't Malibu Coconut Rum but Captain Morgan's Parrot Bay Coconut Rum. Uuugggghhhhh... so much coconut rum and cokes imbibed. So much sugar coated heaving.

Aye! Yer not missin' out, mate.

    2. Your demise was Parrot Bay as well? LOL I can't even look at the bottle without feeling sick. It affected my ability to smell all things coconut for a while afterwards.

I think cookie heaving is better than what I ended up with: eggrolls. Never. Again.

    3. Sorry for jumping into your conversation here, but I thought I'd add my two cents on the subject of coconut rum, which would be that all varieties are the work of the devil. I've only been sick once FROM THE DRINK my whole life, and it was at the hands of Malibu Rum. Oh man, I can barely type that without feeling ill...!

    4. Yes. That dern parrot. Thankfully, I can get on with coconut smells again but I probably will never drink that drek again.

Add away Sandra!!! Ahhhhh... Malibu was your beast huh?? What makes that sugary coconut rum so blasted dangerous?!?!
