Haus of Gloi: Birthday Candle

Haus of Gloi dabbling in candles? Yes, please.

The inaugural candle from Haus of Gloi debuted in the scent Haus Birthday, which carries within notes of Cascadian huckleberries, buttercream frosting, cloved spice cake and wisps of incense. This is an 8 ounce soy based candle in a glass jar with a black plastic lid with the label and information printed on the lid and the bottom. It cost $18 plus $4.11 shipping.

I first tested this one in the living room. After about two hours of being lit, a lovely lavender wax pool formed and the wick and flame burned strong. The throw was light so I moved it to my nightstand for the second burn the next day. Laying in my bed and reading, watching TV, blogging... you know favorite bed things... the scent gently wafted over to me in medium-light throw and enchanted me with tart and sweet blueberry and raspberry tinted huckleberries and soft sweet ambered incense.

Matt over at Haus of Gloi is working on Zazz and Driftwood candles for a summer release at the moment. If a Moon Dog candle comes out, watch out! I will barrel through the virtual crowds for that one. What Haus of Gloi favorite will you be hoping for release? And guess what... a customer was asking about wax tarts. Oooooh

  1. Ooh, how exciting! Love it when great vendors come out with new products. Sounds like a nice candle for small rooms.

    1. I do too! And candles and wax tarts?! Yes, please! It is a nice candle for smaller spaces. A lovely little nightstand candle.

  2. I was really hoping for a Brief Path candle for summer, and Milkmaid for next spring. Ooh and Lily Cakes would be a good one too! I grabbed Zazz from the preorder in the meantime. I haven't melted the birthday candle yet, but your review has me excited to try it out soon!

    1. Milkmaid would be awesome... just got a free sample of that I am liking it alot. I don't think I have ever smelled Brief Path. I can't wait to see what you think of Zazz and Haus Birthday. I wonder if some curing might have helped? I may let my next one sit a bit before burning. I think I jumped too fast on this one maybe.

    2. *Brier Path* I think I need glasses lol. It comes out with their summer stuff. Raspberry and rose mixed with lush forest greenery and amber.

    3. LOL! Well I had not remembered Brier Path either if it makes you feel better. But I just got the summer newsletter and I spy it. Sounds lovely!! I may need to try it in a few mini sizes.

  3. I would have been all over this, glad this scent appears to be recurring now so I can try for it next year. Thinking about the Driftwood candle, Zazz was my favorite early on until a note was discontinued and reformulation was required. The replacement champagne note smells like a cleaning product to me.

    1. Driftwood would probably be my pick too. Not sure if I will spring for either of these yet though. Might hold out for fall or other GC offerings. Lemon Honeysuckle would have been a nice candle. Thank you for letting me know about Zazz. I like that Haus Birthday is (hopefully!) becoming a tradition too. It is a nice scent. Did you read Britton's final farewell newsletter? I am excited for her. So does this mean she is leaving HoG for good? I took it that way. Loving her Blood Moon line to pieces. I really hope she returns to flesh that new endeavor out even more. She has such a knack for scent and quality. And maybe all the hiking and vistas and flora and fauna will spur on her creativity. <3

    2. A while back she said she will continue to be a part-owner but not doing production, hopefully she gets some cut of profits in the future. The way she has been talking lately it sounds like she was unhappy working with Matt unfortunately, I hope her BMB line is a success and she can support herself focusing on her passion for plant based products. Moving out of Portland and into central Oregon may make it easier for her to do so and get her closer to nature as well.

    3. On second thought, regarding her HoG status, it might be a clean break and she was referring to herself as part-owner while she was overseeing production by the new person. The business was built on her formulas and it seems like there should be a licensing arrangement for her but she has mentioned leaving her bread and butter job and being nervous about money. Well, her new line is selling well so fingers crossed. I admire her for taking risks and continuing to do what she enjoys most.

    4. I would think she would get some profits too unless she sold her portion of it. It sounds like she is breaking off entirely but maybe I read it wrong. Either way, I wish her the best and will be hanging around Archaic Honey and Witch Wandering keeping tabs on her hike and her bath and body business. I just love her products at Blood Moon Botanica. She certainly does not let fear get in her way. I admire that.
