Mermaid Moment

Mermaid moments... around the house.

I am not sure if I love the beach because I am a Florida native and have rolled in the sand and played in salty water since I was knee high to a grasshopper, or if it is in my blood. I come from a long line of beachcombers, shellers, and surfers. And five or six generations of Floridians. You know... the whole Nurture/Nature debate. Ultimately, I do know that God planted my soul in sandy soil where the palm trees grow and it suits me. My home decor reflects this.

My sister Lindsey found the awesome folk art metal mermaid, above, in Georgia. I love it to pieces. The little lighthouse has been upgraded. It was a navy and maroon color. My friend picked it up at a yard sale and gave it to me. I repainted it and wrapped a rope around it. I also decoupaged it with a map of Tampa Bay (I point Mac Dill Air Force Base facing out so I can think of my friend Ashley over in Turkey when I see it.)

The Sand Dollar on Anna Maria Island is one of my favorite stores. Hubs bought this  driftwood mermaid for me on our vacation there last year. I cannot leave well enough alone, so I painted it. Bright colors.

Downtown Plant City has some of the best antique stores around. Twenty-five dollars was quickly exchanged for this white cast iron mermaid.

Hobby Lobby, how I sing your praises. Your online coupons and half off sales send my heart a' flutter. This tiny siren is probably supposed to be a hook or something functional, but I just think she's purdy.
I should go give my Hubs a big 'ol hug now that I see how much mermaid stuff he has to endure... but then again, he does have total control over the remote...

  1. Your mermaid stuff is very cute!! Love it!! I don't really have a theme décor around the house, maybe one day I will! Although, I now have 3 book page wreaths (2 inside & 1 on front door)!! :-)

  2. I know, right? I told my husband that one I want a library in my house -- even if it's the size of a closet, I just want one!! LOL!!!

  3. Your mermaid theme throughout the house is just so stunning, really! The tiniest mermaid can make any day go from bad to good! They are so majestic. Love your set-up with the plug-in warmer and mermaid with a hooked tail! (we use the one you gave me for towels, but it's just so pretty to look at!)
