I finally ran out of my handful of mascara deluxe samples. Gosh I love those things. In general though, when it comes to mascara, I tend to favor Buxom (regular/original) and Guerlain Noir G mascara. My lashes are not thick or overly long, but they do have a curl on their own, so brushes make it or break it for me since my lashes are so close to my lid. I go for more of a natural long, thick lash. Not a fan of brittle, clumpy, doll-like or fake looking lashes on myself, and those two previously mentioned mascaras provide the look I like. However, this time I decided to return to a past favorite as well as a new one to try.
Lancome is a brand I very rarely purchase. I am not sure why, as I bet they make great product, but much like Estee Lauder, Clinique, and other general department store makeup brands, I just don't stop by the counters any longer. I did when I was young. Clinique, at 16, was my brand.
As I was running out of eyemake remover as well, I scooped this trio up for a song. I love biphase eye makeup remover. The Cils Booster XL is a primer and volumizer- it went on white and seemed to lengthen a tad bit. The Hypnose Drama mascara is volumizing- it provided the nice long, thicker lash I was hunting for, without smudging or flaking or running, it did lean a little spidery but nothing a lash comb couldn't fix....at first. My first gripe is the wave shape brush. I didn't function well with it at times, getting mascara on my lids and ruining my eyeshadow. My second gripe is the formula. It was nice and smooth the first three days but after about day 4, there were more clumps coming out of the tube than a Nutty Professor reunion. I threw it away well before it went "bad." The Bi-Facil remover is just plain good. Not overly oily or stinging to the eye.
I am familiar with Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes and I like it. Tomorrow I will be reacquainting myself with this guy.
For my samples I chose:
NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in Santa Fe- This foundation is what I really wanted to sample. The shade just happened to be perfect for my skin, not too pink, orange or yellow. A true neutral. The coverage fell somewhere between medium and full, it felt lightwieght and left a very subtle dewy finish. I plan on buying this when my Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation runs out. (I like it, but MAN is it maximum coverage, I always end up mixing it with tinted moisturizer or cream to thin it a bit).
REN Instant Firming Beauty Shot- Eh. I have worn it morning and night for several days and not sure what it does.
Dior Homme- Yes. Feel bad for my husband because I will be wearing this.
Dior Nude Air: Nude Healthy Glow Ultra-Fluid Serum Foundation with Sunscreen- Phew. These makeups seriously need to hone their laconic abilities. So long winded. I did use up the whole bubble pack sample of this on Sunday. The foundation was indeed watery (ultra-fluid) but it went on smoothly with my finger tips, and provided medium coverage despite being so thin. My skin-tone was evened and freckles nearly invisible. The finish dried to a velvety matte texture as described. I would like this more in the summer maybe, since it did feel a tad dry for winter. I would absolutely try it again.
Cover FX Cream Concealer- A nice thick, yet slightly dry concealer. Not sure if it is due to packing that it feels dry. Willing to try it again.
Any makeup splurges lately? Do you have a Holy Grail mascara? What is it?
I'm using that Tarte mascara right now. I don't have much experience with other brands for comparison but so far so good for me.
ReplyDeleteI gave my mother their dark mascara primer for the holidays because she likes lash tints and I thought it would be suitable substitute. I think she is using it although it seems to be more of a thickener, better suited for people who want those fat, spider leg-sized lashes. With my order I got a sample of their BB tinted primer and can get away with using it alone. I figured out that was what the BB meant. :D
I am looking forward to using my Tarte mascara tomorrow. I like hearing you enjoy it too. Tarte has a great reputation for quality. That is sweet you got that for your mom. I will have to look into that.
DeleteBB creams are nice. They remind me of tinted moisturizer which is my foundation preference. I am weird. I want to cover my acne and scars but not my freckles. I used to like full coverage foundation but shy away from it now (hence the Kat Von D purchase of yore).
Those lashes, girl's got 'em! Wow! I dont use mascara often, but I like one I got in a ipsy bag a while back...not sure what it is called, which is no help, LOL. You should Skype with me and teach me how to use makeup properly. :P
ReplyDeleteI would love to do that!!!! I usually am pretty minimalist in my look (I think) but I just want to Skype with you! Lol! I have never Skyped. I guess there's an app for that. I have Facetimed though so same thing right?
Deleteooooo... great picks!! my sister let me use her Tarte when I was home. my go to was discovered through Ipsy: Urban Decay Perversion. I absolutely love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have tried Urban Decay Perversion. Their liquid eyeliner is my Holy Grail eyeliner. So awesome. Will try them next Ash! Thanks!
DeleteLove this post! I love Bi-facil. I've been using it since I was a teen, and it's fantastic. I used Clinique and Lancome mascaras for many years, but in the past year, I've branched out (due to samples and whatnot) and have been using Tarte, Makeup For Ever, and Benefit -- and they have been great. I just found out that Influenster is sending me some Yves St Laurent mascara, which has me pretty giddy. :D
ReplyDeleteI think I am a Bi-Facil convert! I love it!!! Mary Kay was my go-to but I don't have a Mary Kay lady at hand when I need it. Sephora on the other hand.... She is always there.
DeleteI am giddy for you!!!! YSL?! Please let me know how you end up liking it!
