North Carolina Vacation Basket & Thrift Store Books & Twitter

It's time for the annual Johnson family vacation. We decided to head back to North Carolina again and revisit some of our favorite places and explore a couple new ones as well. In preparation for the trip I decided to pack an old shoe box full of wax to melt. Here is what our cabin on top of the mountain will smell like:

Glitterati- Pink VBN Beaver Tails/Hansel & Gretel's House
Rosegirls- Marshmallow Spearmint scoopable
Rosegirls- Strawberry Jam Swizzle Sticks ice cream scoop
Rosegirls- Soothing Lavender Dreams
Rosegirls- Peppermint/Christmas Past muffin
LSC- Coconut Cream Pie
LSC- Caramel Drizzle Cookies <3 gift
LSC- Virginia's Secret Recipe <3 gift
Butterfly Lane- Marshmallow Bonfire <3 gift
Frostbeard Studio- Winterfell
Book Scents- Fiery Cross
CFTKR- Earthen Oak
CFTKR- Country Bake Shop
CFTKR- Serendipity Marshmallow Delight <3 gift
CFTKR- Blackberry Marmalade <3 gift
CFTKR- Cinnamon Strudel <3 gift
CFTKR- Country Charm <3 gift
CFTKR- Grandma's Cupboard <3 gift
CFTKR- Country Gift Shop <3 gift

I found last year that the spicy cinnamon scents and evergreen scents really smelt right in the cabin. Kind of like the beach scents and florals and coconuts smell perfect in a beach house. I am low on evergreen scents but I will bring along my Bath & Body Works candles in Winter and Twisted Peppermint. As always, if you would like any of these scents reviewed melted, please comment. Do you have any vacation plans this summer?

Right before we left I had to run a few errands. I needed more embroidery floss for my traveling sewing and I wanted some books to take along. I headed over to the local Goodwill and hit the jackpot! Each of these were $1.16 each and two were even on my Goodreads To-Read List (The Help and The Handmaiden's Tale). I have been struck by an urge to learn about Marie Antoinette's life story so Abundance jumped out at me. Anna Karenina is a classic that I probably should read. Looks massive. Barbara Kingsolver and Maggie Steifvater are authors I adore... and London. YEAH! Taking that one to Japan so Ashley and I can plot. I am on the lookout for The Red Tent and a few others to complete my 2015 reading challenge. Have you read anything good recently? I just wrapped up The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. I cannot wait to get the rest of those either.

Oh yeah! I finally joined Twitter! Check me out @RedolentMermaid! I need friends to follow <3

  1. Great scent and book choices! I particularly enjoyed The Help and Poisonwood Bible. Enjoy your trip!

    1. Thanks Amamda! I am really excited about these books. I feel like I hit the mother load!!! I hope you have a wonderful Sunday <3

  2. You got some great books, Julie! The Poisonwood Bible is excellent. The Help and The Handmaid's Tale were also good, but I personally enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible and The Red Tent much more. Enjoy your family vacation!!! I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on Grandma's Cupboard and Country Gift Shop :)

    1. Glad to hear you enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible! I have heard great things about it. I keep my eyes out for The Red Tent. It is high on my read list.

I woke up this morning to so much birdsong I have never heard before! I love it!

I will most certainly document Grandma's Cupboard and Country Gift Shop! Cinnamon Strudel was really great!

  3. I'll also be taking a Johnson family vacation to NC! In September!

    1. How awesome V!!! What area of NC will you be going? I bet the trees will look STUNNING! I wish I could see all the fall colors! Have a most excellent week and nice to chat!

  4. Looks like a good haul of scents & books for your vacay!! I'm curious about your thoughts on Ballad by Maggie Stiefvater. I liked the series, but I prefer her other books/series instead. :)

    1. I got it because it was Maggie. I remembered you saying it wasn't your favorite of hers. I think I got the second book so now I have to wait and get the first lol!
