Random Halloween Fun: Boo Bags!

Happy October 1st!! A fun little tradition that started when the girls were much younger are the giving of Boo Bags.

The girls pick out a random assortment of festive toys and candies then package them up and place them on a friend's doorstep and run like the dickens. A note is always attached that shares a corny little poem about being Boo'd. This piece of poetic gold is straight from moi. Feel free to use it. I won't charge royalties.

This is a fun activity that presents a positive chance to:
 1. Give with out getting.
and 2. Give without acknowledgement.
Those are hard things to learn, but if learned, create much joy and inner giggles just thinking about the secret.

Did you have any Halloween traditions growing up as a kid? Please share! I am always looking for more fun ways to celebrate the little things in life.

  1. I love that you are helping your daughters understand the joy of giving. This is adorable and such a "Julie" idea! That little dancing skeleton guy is hilarious.

    1. He is cool! Shake him and his head knocks against his hands to make noise. I hope the girls enjoy their childhood and I want to try and give them as many positive memories as I can.

On a side note I bet the parents are cursing the Pixie Stix.

  2. That is such a great idea!!!! It reminds me of May Day baskets, which I used to do as a kid. The lessons these teach are priceless. <3 Your girls are so lucky to have you! I know it's mutual. :)

    1. What are May Day baskets? Those might need to be a new tradition! I am indeed blessed and I just hope that I can help raise them to be loving, caring, contributing members of their community.

    2. May Day baskets are so awesome! My mom told me that everyone did them when she was a kid (she was born in 1933), but when I was a kid in the 1970s, no one really did them. Essentially what you do is on May Day you take either tin cans or make paper cones or something, fill them with flowers (they can be real or fake), and put them on people's doorknobs with a nice message about Spring/summer. :) She told me that they did them in school. I did them with a friend growing up who lived down the street with her grandparents, and her grandmother told me that they did it when she was a kid in Arkansas, too. My dad said they did it in CA when he was a kid, but that it fell out of fashion when Americans stopped celebrating May Day because of its connotations with communism in the 1950s. I think it's such a fun idea! It's like "doorbell ditching" but with a fun surprise! :)

    6. How sweet!!! The girls and I are TOTALLY doing this! Thank you for all the info I can't wait to read it and get ideas. The more beauty and generosity we can all bring back, the better. <3

    7. I read the article. Those photos of the First Lady and the children are lovely. I laughed when the writer mentioned not letting the tradition come back for fear of commercialism! But I am still doing it ;-)

  3. I was going to mention May Day baskets! I see 'futurowoman' beat me to it. Yeah, one of my online BFFs back in the Titanic craze days told me about them and even sent me a mini basket of treats. So yeah, the Boo Bag idea is cute like that. And another funny note, I was searching of info on some crafty ideas yesterday and a blog article (or a video?) of decorative Boo Bag ideas came up!
