House of Usher Wax Museum

This product from House of Usher Wax Museum was sent free in exchange for an honest review.

Brooke, from the House of Usher Wax Museum, contacted me recently to partner for a review post. I quickly hopped over to her website and loved what I saw: an Edgar Allen Poe themed wax company. I should wear my Raven shirt as I type this.... anyway, not only is the theme intriguing but she has several appealing lines and geeky releases as well. We all know I appreciate geeky.

This 3 ounce owl in Banana Nut Zucchini Bread wafted out of the box immediately after I opened it. This could have went south quickly for me (being picky about 'naners and all) however, it was not that Runty/Laffy Taffy banana I loathe. It was more creamy like banana pudding. It threw medium-strong all in the kitchen and living room. A truly creamy zucchini blend that kept its homemade banana pudding aroma. It made me want to make some. These owls run $3.50.

The Warm Vanilla Nutmeg scent shot contained a nice dose of oils that rang spicy and oozed with a dollop of caramel. I really enjoy this blend. Regular scent shots cost $1.50 and come in a wide variety of scents.

Vanilla Pound Cake reminds me strongly of vanilla ice cream. It threw a nice strong fluffy white cloud of marshmallow, vanilla frosting and white cake all around my bedroom. It probably would be a medium-strong in larger spaces. A lovely vanilla that I will buy in the future without hesitation.

Pumpkin Spice Latte greeted me with the cutest collection of pumpkin confetti. The coffee note figures prominently with a slight roasted note and deep pumpkin and spice. I am not a fan of that slight bitter note that lurks in most coffee blends, but I do know someone who will love this scent and appreciate the the Poe theme.

Annabel Lee has my heart. Lavender, rose absolute, spice and pepper sweep me away on a tide of lost love and sophisticated yearnings. It is a beautiful dupe of Claire Burke.

The next four tarts are from her Apothecary line that features large loads of pure essential oils. The higher cost of these ingredients factor into the pricing: $3 each for the Apothecary line scents. The labeling on this line appeals to me.

Potion #1 utilizes lavender oil. It holds a sweetness that reminds me of marshmallow a bit. A lovely calming blend.

Potion #2 simmers cedarwood, tangerine and orange oils together with juniper berries and dried orange peel sprinklings. The citrus zest leaps out of the cup, lifting spirits and sending out waves of energy. The cedarwood balances the sweetness, keeping it from smelling like orange juice.

Potion #3 melds fir needle, cedarwood, tangerine and bergamot oils with a dusting of dried chamomile. A glorious, unique blend that brings to mind the holidays in an elegant way. I need more of this one.

Potion #4 a sleepy time draught of spearmint and bergamot that soothes the mind. It let loose a strong throw in my bedroom for quite a few hours, making falling asleep so much sweeter. Lately I have been having bad luck with my mint blends and thought I had become asnomic to them (horror of horrors!). Thankfully, this tart proved otherwise.

I am very happy with my experience at House of Usher Wax Museum and will be placing my own order in the not too distant future. The Apothecary line impresses me as well as the overall branding, Brooke's kindness and the quality of the products. Does the Edgar Allen Poe theme appeal to you? Are you interested in essential oil tarts? Wax geekery (there is a cool Star Wars box up on her site)?

    2. Ok, melting it and the citrus comes through the most. Dried orange peel with a slight cedar, pine and woods back note. Very nice scent. Medium throw in bedroom.

    1. Especially one with a theme like this. I just read a collection of Poe's stories last month so it was fortuitous timing. The essential oils ones DO look like fancy soaps. They are my favorites. I am such a sucker for botanicals.
