This Old House: Fall Decor 2015

This post is embarrassingly late, in fact, I took these pictures yesterday. I rarely ever create posts the day before. It is usually a week ahead. So please ignore the dust, the cat hair dust bunnies and abysmal lighting. The lighting is rarely good in certain areas of my home anyway. Our front door went sans mums this year. I may still get some in time for Thanksgiving but I doubt it. I do need new fall wreaths, however.

I picked up the signs at the Dollar Tree this year. I enjoyed the words and glitter. Not sure if I will keep them there next year.

I love my Target owl, Mason jar pumpkins and gifts from my sweet friend. The crows tickle me too.

We were dying pumpkin seeds on the table and baking a Gooey Butter Pumpkin Cake so excuse the mess. I enjoy writing on the chalkboard fish I scored at Marshall's on clearance.

This is the old door made into a shelf my sister Darby surprised me with for Christmas last year. I love it to pieces.

This guy from Walmart hangs on the door to the laundry room/garage.

This one to the guest bathroom, where he welcomes folks to sit on the throne.

The girls crack me up sometimes with the things they want to spend their allowance on. Scarlette saw this purple cat in Michael's and whipped her money out and bought him immediately. His name is Esper. He guards the girls' bedrooms.

A wee ghostie decoration Savanna made. As well as the "Beware" sign on the front door.

The view sitting on the couch. My bedroom is on the right in the photo. The girls' bedrooms are behind me. The kitchen and front door to the right and the porch and backyard to the left. Our home is 3 bedroom, 2 bath and about 1,500 sq. ft., not huge by any means but comfy for us.

A cluster of fall/Halloween fun in the corner. This is where our Christmas tree goes each year.

Not a whole lot of decorations but I am getting there, slowly collecting things I like that are on sale. I am not going to change much out for Thanksgiving, just add a few turkeys and take away the purple lights and use orange. The Thankful Tree will go up! So excited about that. I will post it once it gets going.

Do you change out a lot of decorations between Halloween and fall? Do you decorate for Thanksgiving? Where do you get your decorations? Happy November!

  1. I missed out on those Dollar Tree signs. By the time I decided I wanted them, they were gone from my store. I'm thinking of grabbing the Target Dollar Spot battery lights more often as I see them. I could really add some nice little holiday touches to more spots that way, without having to worry about being near an outlet.

I do change my decor.....leaves and apples and scarecrows in Sept, Halloween stuff in Oct, and turkeys, pumpkins, pilgrims in November. Most of my stuff comes from cheapie deals at Walmart, etc.

    1. Dollar Tree stuff flies from the shelves. Still sore I missed out on this year's Christmas lights already. I love the Target lights! Because after I use them for pictures I just strew them around the house, put them in vases, drape them on things.

Walmart gets really cute fall decor. I love Hobby Lobby's 80% off after holiday sales.

  2. I enjoyed your Halloween decor tour, it is probably my favorite of yours from the mason jar pumpkins to the birds and purple lighting, if I make it down to Florida someday I must come in October. :) Your seashell stained glass pane above the door I adore also.

Your home is a perfect size for your family (more house is more to heat, clean, furnish, and pay taxes on and anything that gets in "status symbol" territory is not for me.) Cozy indeed.

    1. October is a pleasant month to visit anyway :-) less humidity and temps in the 80's. I love that stained glass. Adam bought it for me at an art show several years ago. I have not seen them since.

Thank you! "Love grows best in little houses." And cleaning is not my most favored activity lol! Sometimes I long for a fancy house with fancy accoutrements but then snap out of it pretty quick, and realize I am blessed beyond belief.

    1. Thank you Amanda! It was our first home and will probably be our home until we retire. Slowly adding all the upgrades we couldn't swing when we first had it built.

    1. Thank you Ellisa! I am one of those strange birds who can't do too much white or tan walls. I thrive on color. I am still burning my way through my Yankee Spiced Pumpkin candle. Man that thing will last me until Thanksgiving I bet. I have been burning it since early September! I hope you are going well!

  6. Love your Fall decorations and the décor of your house -- especially the cat and the door shelf! I don't have much Fall decorations, but I want more. Hopefully, I can pick up more things here and there!

    1. Oh, I did spruce up my Thanksgiving/Fall wreath, so I like it better now. I also made another one, but it doesn't match -- still like it though! I love putting wreaths on my front doors, but then I get a lot critters hanging out on them -- especially the one that opens -- so that gets aggravating for me, LOL!!

    2. I want more fall decor too. I plan on swinging by Hobby Lobby after Thanksgiving to see what they have. I can only imagine the lizards and frogs jumping out from the wreath! Lol! We always get fat tree frogs behind our wreaths on the front door. Tod stares at them.
