Hand to Earth Ceramics

More pottery? Yes. Yes, it is. I mean, who am I to not give these whimsical mushroom and crystal point pieces of art a home? Not that they were languishing anywhere. Deanna's Hand to Earth Ceramic store on Etsy is quite hopping. I follow Deanna on IG via her mudanddeanna account. Her moths, mushroom, moons and mountains all appeal to my nature loving heart.

Her pieces illustrate both her artistry, connection with nature and sculptural talent.

This tiny planter is full of some succulent babies and has fulfilled its life purpose.

This cup is quite lovely with the crystals hand carved and the leaf wreath bracketing the artwork, the subtle gradient of sand to bone hues and the lovely crackle finish, but there is also another special feature on this cup...

...some of the crystals on the back and side have gold and pearlized finishes.

It was a challenge for me to capture on film.

I sprang for a smaller whisky tumbler with mushrooms to match the planter. The bigger cup is perfect for about 1 1/2 cups of coffee and the smaller cup is about how much tea I enjoy drinking in one sitting.

What subject matter would you enjoy on a piece of handmade pottery? Do you enjoy a nicely turned coffee or tea mug? Have any favorite potters?

  1. I'd always be too afraid to actually use such nice pieces. I like to look at pottery pieces, and marvel at the skills of the people who make them, but that's about as far as I ever go with it. lol

I'm not even sure what I'd want on mine if I were shopping for something. Probably a castle!

    1. I am sure I will end up dropping/breaking one at some point in my life but for now I am loving getting to hold them while they in turn hold my coffees and teas. The tears can come later. :-)

A castle would be so cool!! I am going to browse Etsy and see if there is anything like that. I could see you with a castle one for sure.

  2. So beautiful. ♥. I am googling to try to come up with a description for the color scheme, it looks like you could say ochre. I also like raw sienna and burnt umber as possibilities. Hmm, this is taking me back to watching Bob Ross. Anyway these look amazing together.

I had a splurge on Friday, from ocpottery. His work looks similar to your drippy planter to the left in the 4th photo down, with brown unglazed clay. I am planning on gifting most of them, that is my story and I am sticking to it.

    1. Ochre and burnt umber for sure!!! I love the dash of green in there with the earths and browns and yellows. I love Bob. I have a tee shirt with his face on it made out of tree silhouettes that I like to wear from time to time. ocpottery you say??? I will be off to check it out. I was thinking of gifting some too for Christmas this year but I am not always sure of peoples' styles. <3 But I do have some I plan on gifting anyway.

  4. Oh my gosh, SO beautiful!!
I have a treasured cup I bought a couple years back from an Amish man, when I was out on an art tour. I really wanted one of his pieces, but couldn't make up my mind, so I skipped it and came back the next year and forced myself to just pick one. (My indecision can get the best of me)! lol
He made more than just cups/mugs, but with higher prices for his beautiful wares, I really was stretching to afford the single cup.
I love pottery so much, so much beauty and talent there. Love!

    1. Thank you! Deanna truly has a talent for carving and throwing and composing eye pleasing and heart warming creations. I look forward to adding more of her creations to my collection.

How very cool! I would love to see it one day. I bet it is a day brightener when you use that mug. <3 I am glad you were able to get one the next year! It was meant to be.

      We are kindred spirits indeed.

    2. You are just so darn sweet! :) :)
Yeah, I don't think I can attach a pic on here of my cup?? Maybe Instagram or your business Facebook page could work? ;)
