Warmed Wax: Candle Creek Cottage & "My First Time" Tag

These Buttercream bones threw very lightly and smelled more like cookies than vanilla, with a tad of waxy undertone. The girls liked using these as drunsticks, pre-melting. I am thankful to have been able to try them but I would not purchase these.

This caramel apple tart was nicely scented of sweet apples and threw medium light. The red dye was seriously concentrated and probably would stain lighter bowls. If any of this was spilled, it would be bad bad news. I would not purchase this again. On the whole, Candle Creek has really cute tarts, but their strength and scent quality would need to improve before I would try them again.

My First Time Tag

1. Do you still talk to your first love? Nope. I do not. We dated in high school my junior and senior year then parted ways when I went to college. We hung around the same crowd for a little while through college but then drifted all apart. We are both married with children now and I hope he is as happy as I am.

2. What was your first job? I had my first babysitting job at 10, then I started working on my (former) stepfather's golf course from the time I was 12 to 23; mowing, spraying weeds, trimming trees, fixing golf carts, washing dogs, pretty much anything that needed to be done. Then I jumped right into teaching middle school agriscience once I graduated college.

3.What was your first car? 1988 Nissan Sentra, white. $2,000, half paid by me and half by my folks.

4. Who was the first person who texted you today? Technically no one has texted me yet. But I woke up to my sisters and mom group texting last night and read it. My mom usually texts a prayer to my sisters and I each morning around 8am and I look forward to it.

5. Who is the first person you thought of this morning? Scarlette. She went to bed with a fever and ear ache, so I am taking off work (Friday) to take her in to the doctor.

6.Who was your first grade teacher? Mrs. Brock at Crystal Lake Elementary (where I almost got paddled by the principal- thankfully my mom picked me up and did it herself).

7. Where did you go on your first airplane ride? I answered this in my NYC post. :-) Cleveland, Ohio to visit Adam's family when I was 19.

8. Who was your first best friend and do you still talk to him/her? This is tough. I attended 6 different elementary schools growing up and found it hard to really bond with kids. I recall Nicole Shiver being someone I was close buddies with in 3rd grade at Dixieland Elementary. We had lots of sleepovers, went camping at Fort Wilderness together, and were pretty close. Until I moved again and went to Purcell in 4th grade. That pattern has followed me most of my life. It used to bother me but that is just how it is. My longest known best friend (other than Adam, because really, he IS my BEST friend) is NaLonda, we met in college and bonded quickly. We have had our ups and downs but we love each other and work on it until it is fixed. 15 years of friendship is a rare gem for me and I treasure it.

9. Where was your first sleepover? When my mom was 21 and getting her RN degree at HCC, I was 2 and used to play with my Mom's study friend's daughter, Kaci Wiggs. We grew up together and stayed over at each other's house all the time.

10. Who was the first person you talked to today? Adam of course. He was nudging me and saying "hey!" so I could turn over and cuddle him this morning. He is my cuddle bug.

11. Who's wedding were you in for the first time? Probably my Dad's when he married my stepmom, then my Mom's when she married my stepdad.

12. What was the first thing you did this morning? Cuddled Adam.

13. What was the first concert you ever went to? Newsboys when I was about 9, then the Beach Boys when I was about 10, then Clay Walker when I was in middle school.

14. First broken bone? My shin was fractured when I was in a rodeo in college. But no fully broken bones yet.

15. First piercing? My ears when I was about 3 months old. Non-ear: belly when I was 18.

16. First foreign Country? St. Martin in the Caribbean (half Dutch, half French) on our honeymoon.

17. First movie you remember seeing in the theaters? Well Splash was in someone's house so that doesn't count. I would have to say Driving Miss Daisy in 3rd grade. It is the first I really remember. My parents took me and my "boyfriend" to see it and then get ice cream.

18. When was your first detention? High school, Saturday work detail picking up garbage. For what? I don't remember. I seem to wipe from memory all unsavory things I did, so I can look back and pretend I was an angel. School paddling? Again. No clue what for. I was a good kid. ;-)

19. Who was your first roommate? Pass. It was not a good experience. That is all I can say. So I will go with my second roommate: Nicole Duette. She was super fun and funny. I lived in a house with 16 other girls in college, in a Southern Scholarship Foundation house. Never a dull moment and makes Big Brother look like a joke. That is where I met NaLonda <3

20. What was the first lesson you ever took? Flute the summer between 5th and 6th grade. Played until my sophomore year in high school. Marching Band. It was fun.

21. Who was the first wax related person you watched on YouTube? Little Balladeer (I think that is how you spell it) when I was going through a mad crazy BBW candle phase. She was entertaining to watch. Her collection video made my eyes boggle. But she got a little extreme and strange sometimes.

Whew! Lots of firsts!! Thank you LoLo for tagging me. Feel free to share your answers in the comments and I tag Ashley, my Bohemian Sassenach sweetheart.

  1. Wow, Julie, you've lived a full life....rodeos and detentions took me by surprise. :) I've never been to a rodeo so I'm picturing a bucking bronco, but maybe it is not like that for young participants. LOL.

    1. I guess I have! Maybe a tad more reckless at times than I should have been, but I made it through unscathed for the most part. The rodeo was definitely a pinnacle of recklessness. It was a game of Bull Pinball, where they draw circles in the arena and let half a dozen people from the crowd stand inside one each. They let a raging bull loose and the last one in their circle won a jackpot. Let's just say I lost and cost my parents an ambulance ride and three times the jackpot amount. They weren't thrilled.

  2. Those tarts are cute, but bummer their throw. :(

LOVE your tag answers! Your mom seems amazing, it is really cool she send you prayers in the morning. :) Poor Scarlette, is she feeling any better this weekend?? It is so cool you have known your friend for 15 years! Those are truly gems and are cherished through the good and bad times. <3 You and Adam are adorable, lol! You were in a rodeo!? Cool! I had no idea you had your belly button pierced, do you still? Oh wow, I remember Little Balladeer, I wonder what happened to her! Her collections were freaking unbelievable, no one can melt that many candles! (HAHAHAHAHAHA LIKE I AM ONE TO TALK LOLOLOL). Thanks for doing the tag! <3

    1. Scarlette is much better now that she has three days of meds in her. Her aunt took them to a corn maze and they had a blast.

My mom and I are closer now than we ever have been and it is a huge blessing.

I took out my belly ring when I got pregnant the first time. It is closed up now with lots of scar tissue. The body piercing days are long over :-)

I know!!!! I may not have all those candles but wax??? Hmmmmmn... Lol! Does she still make videos??

  3. Sorry the wax wasn't a hit but I love your tag answers! So fun learning more about you! LoL! Can't believe you had Saturday work detail & you don't remember why! LoL!

Your mom does sound pretty awesome! Glad to hear Scarlette is feeling better too! Hope the rest of you stay healthy! :-)

    1. Lol! I used to get in trouble for talking too much. Thankfully those days are over.

My mom has gone through the most difficult two years of her life recently and has really come out of it so strong and beautiful. Her heart is softened and she really has come out of a long ongoing depression instead of sinking further into it. She is a pearl of a woman.

  4. In that case, she's also pretty amazing!! That's so inspirational as well. I know about depression (for myself personally and for others -- it's in my genes) and what a difficult struggle it is. I love hearing stories about people overcoming it. :-)
