Mermaid Treasure: Laurel and Lime Earrings

The next installment in the Laurel & Lime Snail Mail Society was a sweet little note with a discount code. I browsed Katie Kelly's site and found some beautiful studs. They arrived wrapped delicately in tissue paper and tucked into this rustic pouch.

I love it. And I love handwritten notes. I don't do enough of that. I hope to get back to that one day soon.

The "Old Growth" studs came framed by a sleek black cardstock piece. I believe these are pyrite and silver.

The setting detail echoes the meandering lines of woodgrain.

Katie has been forging some really lovely pieces. Her ferns and dangle earrings are artistic and stylish.

I mentioned wanting to try and hand write more notes to people. What small something do you appreciate that you would like to do or start doing again?

Laurel and Lime Snail Mail Society

Katie Kelly from Laurel & Lime is a talented and kind silversmith that I have featured a few times here on my blog. She used to live not too far from me in Clearwater but recently relocated to Portland, Oregon. She kicked around an idea on Instagram that involved sending out small kindnesses via snail mail and getting back to tangible relationships in this virtual age. She followed up by created the Snail Mail Society. It is a monthly mailing of anything that strikes Katie's fancy. She will package it up with care and surprise you along the way.

I quickly hopped on the inaugural one-year option at a very low price point. She sent out a questionnaire and I happily filled it out. She mentioned sending out things like tea, treats, smellies and once every third month a handmade jewelry item made by her. There is currently a 6 month option for $84 or a 12 month option for $144.

Upon opening the first month's gift I was merrily greeted with homemade confetti and a sweet hand written note. I was utterly shocked to see that the very first item was already jewelry! I love these molten silver studs. They are about the size of a regular Oxford shirt button, bigger than I usually wear and that makes them very special in my collection. I really love them.

I am beyond thrilled to have a special little something come in the mail over the next year as I go through a transition of my own. Being the nerd I am I have a box ready for Katie too. I figure if we are going to be part of a society, she might welcome some goodies as well.

If you like a sweet surprise, $12/month isn't half bad at all for something to brighten a day.

Mermaid Treasure: Laurel & Lime

I have a new jewelry crush. Katie Kelly from Laurel & Lime. I picked up an adorable oak leaf ring from her over the holidays last year and my sister bought a few amazing pieces from her as well. Darby looks like a rock star in her meteorite earrings and hand with thorns necklace. I coveted many of Katie's pieces but I was finally sent over the edge last weekend. I chose these Hollow Armor dangle earrings ($68) crafted from silver and bronze. They have a nice length but are very light weight. I feel sassy in them.

I also raided the "sale" section where I picked up these bar earrings on the cheap and a bangle.

The bangle is hammered copper with one polished end that states "ever revolving". It was a steal at $11. I picked up a matching one for Darby.

Because it is all Darby's fault. She introduced me to this wonderful ladysmith. <3 Katie Kelly operates out of Clearwater, FL which is very near. Darby and joke about popping in on Katie and hanging out with her for the day. Not sure how Katie would like that, though. We can be goofy.

Follow Laurel & Lime on IG for random coupon codes! She tends to be very generous with them. She is always making new things for her shop too. Ferns are her current theme and I am digging them. Oh! She even has an adorable silver vase necklace that you can tuck tiny wee flowers inside of. >sigh<

Are you into ferns? Can you keep them alive? Tell me your fern secrets.

Mermaid Treasure: Laurel and Lime

Laurel and Lime is an Etsy shop run by Katie Kelly out of Clearwater, Florida. Clearwater is one of the beaches I grew up frolicking on as a child and it always tickles me to shop from local artisans. My sister Darby showed me this ladysmith and her creations and I fell in love with quite a few pieces. Darby ended up buying some ocean jasper meteorite earrings for herself, while I picked up an oak leaf ring.

It arrived in a cute green bag and the ring was tied on a card. I chose the leaf shape (which came in various metals as well) and the band type. I enjoy custom rings since my size tends to be large and not the average ring size offered from silversmiths.

I chose the hammered band. I love wearing this ring. The details are rustic, natural perfection, yet it is simple and sweet at the same time. I find her prices to be very reasonable. This ring was $40.

If you could have a leaf or flower as a ring what would you choose? Do you have any new shiny things in your life?
