Future Primitive Soap Company: Conditioning Hair Rinse

There are three things I would shed actual tears over if they ceased being made in the indie world: Arcana Wildcraft's Filthy Viking, Wildroots natural deodorants, and Future Primitive's Conditioning Hair Rinse. I try to always make sure I have at least 2-3 bottles of this magic elixir on hand.

Future Primitive Soap Company is one of my very favorite houses for hair, soap and body products. Tiggy, the maker behind the brand, is a talented and kind person. They run 10.95 pounds which is about $15.

This round I picked up Sparklebox, Festival, Dark Carnival and one other that I wanted to gift to a friend.

Sparklebox is a stunning dark and sticky citrus scent that makes my mouth water.

"Sugar dusted orange wheels, Italian mandarins, dark & sweet amber resin & black Madagascan vanilla bean."

Festival is a wonderfully earthy blend of nag champa, patchouli, and smoke. I loved this scent as a soap and it is just as meditative and soothing as a conditioner.

Dark Carnival is the more gourmand of the three:
A curious Carnival cart offering sweet treats. Honeycomb drizzled with warm caramel sauce, newspaper cones of hot sugared walnuts, fresh coconuts from the shy and a velvet pouch filled with nuggets of amber & tonka bean.

I have been using these conditioning hair rinses for quite a few years now and swear by them for my thin, curly and dry hair. I condition every other day when I wash my hair and use these to finger comb out knots while it is wet and rinse. They leave my hair soft and curly with minimal frizz. Forever favorite.

Of these three, Festival is still available for purchase. Tiggy restocks often and she debuts new scent releases seasonally. It is worth signing up for her newsletter and giving her a follow on Facebook.

Future Primitive: Hair Products and Soap

I was running low on my favorite conditioner and shampoo bar so it was time for a Future Primitive visit to see Tiggy and stock up on some goodies. I picked up three conditioning hair rinses, one shampoo bar and two bars of soap.

Winter is Dead is the first conditioner I popped open and is being used in my shower currently. This is a sunny and vibrant fragrance with cascades of honeysuckle and jasmine that simply must be buzzing with bees and humming with spring growth. I wish I had pocked up two in this scent. I know I have been talking about this product for years now, but I think I would honestly cry a bit if Tiggy ever stopped making this. It is light and thin, easily slipping through the tangles of my curly hair. The lightness keeps my hair bouncy and shiny. The smell lasts amazingly through the day. I just love it. My hair loves it. Me and Tiggy's Conditioning Hair Rinse? BFF

Bell, Book and Candle I have not had in a long while but I remember loving the scent. These are sealed so I am not going to open it, but if you like moody, magical scents, try it.

Four & Twenty Blackbirds is new to me but the notes make it seem like a dark fruity scent with some woods and earthiness to it. I look forward to using this one after I am done with Winter is Dead.

Again, accolades for the Conditioning Shampoo Bar. Is is affordable at just under 7 pounds ($8 and change when I bought another one a few days ago). It lathers in bountiful masses, cleans my hair of all oils and lasts ages. No dryness, no funky build up, just good stuff. Tiggy is running low on the means to make this due to delays in getting products so you can only purchase one at a time. I broke into this one and then picked up one a couple days ago to have for when this one is done. I believe she scents these lightly in Rook & Raven, but the scent is not overpowering. I tend to smell my conditioner more for some reason.

I used up my last Future Primitive Soap a while ago and was missing some in my shower. Now I have two!!

Magpie is a gorgeous black and ivory soap that is scented in spearmint and patchouli. It has a slight scrubby clay feel, but is not an overt exfoliant, just like the subtle texture of running your fingers along the opposite nap of a short velvet. The scent is eye-rolling good for me. The spearmint is fresh and bracing while the patchouli grounds it in a minty mineral tang.

I put all caution to the wind and added Rosemary & Mint to my shower line up already too. This bar is Gulf of Mexico blue and smells lovely. A soothing mint and lush rosemary experience. Classic beauty and refreshing to lather up in on these sultry spring evenings. The cicadas are starting to sing, the air is pregnant with humidity, the more refreshing the bar of soap, the better it feels on these hot days.

Tiggy crafts a rustically beautiful soap. They lather abundantly and feel amazing on the skin. I am never left feeling dry or sticky. Tiggy did mention that she has been accidentally cutting her bars too big and had to get back to to her normal sizing so that is why I have two bars that look so different. I don't mind one bit. I am thankful she has her livelihood and can keep making her products for us.

Sorry about last week!!! Man, these virtual teaching stuff is hard work. I find after spending from 8am to 4pm staring at a screen (either teaching lessons, helping students individually or reading their works) that my eyes and body are worn out. Worn plumb out. I keep Saturday computer screen free. That leave me Sunday to get some posts going. Now we have word we will be virtual schooling the rest of the year so I imagine that will be my routine for the last six weeks of school.

How are you guys doing? Do you have littles at home? Are you working from a computer?

Future Primitive Soap: Conditioning Shampoo Bar

My adoration of Tiggy's craft is a known thing. After many years of using her Conditioning Rinse I still laude it as my very favorite conditioner. I am now going to sing Future Primitive's praises for her Conditioning Shampoo Bar. It runs about $7 and is chock full of nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, pro vitamin B5 and plant based keratins. It lasts ages too. Tiggy states about 80 washes and I know I have been using mine since August and it is about half used after 90 days. She scents these disks in her Rook & Raven, which I adore, but it is only lightly scented so it won't interfere with a competing conditioner. I will say I love how it makes my hair feel cleansed but not dry. I have been struggling with our well water and most shampoos and conditioners are proving tricky so I just fall back on my old faithfuls.

I used this in conjunction with Sylph and White Witch. Many days followed where my nose was buried in my curls and inhaling deeply. Very, very deeply.

I have found myself using up many of the back up scrubs, lotions and body care items I used to have to hand. I have been weeding through my perfume oil stash and gifting many away. I will probably host another wax and perfume giveaway here soon. I know it has been a week since I have been on. Suffice it to say it was the most stressful week I have had to date. I am officially off for a week for Thanksgiving and I will be using this time to spend with my mom and the girls and Adam and anyone who stops by. I hope to lay my nose on some perfumes, melt some wax and write about some candles. I understand if you have moved on. I am going to still hang on. This platform gives me joy and I love to share the joy of fragrance.

How have you been? What do you wash your hair with?

FuturePrimitive: Three in One Whipped Soap and Conditioning Hair Rinse

It was time to stock up on my tried and true shampoo and conditioner combo from FuturePrimitive. Tiggy really is a super star. She can blend up a delicious scent, put it in a high quality product and send it out in style. My thin, curly, dry locks love shampooing with Tiggy's Three in One Whipped Cream Soap and they love moisturizing with her Hair Rinse. The Rinses are about 9 ounces for the ballpark of $11 and the Whipped Soaps are about 3 ounces for around $9.50. The prices vary as they need to be converted from pounds to dollars. I listed the current US dollar amount here.

I have tried several scents from FuturePrimitive and these two are some of my very favorite:

Shadow Show- Notes: Blackened pomegranate juice, plum compote, spiked with pink pepper, clove and cinnamon, and the rising smoke of frankincense tears, patchouli leaf, sticky amber resin, tree moss and caramelized sugar.
Shadow Show is intense and brilliant. It is a dark sweetly spiced patchouli where a dark vein of deep purple and burgundy fruits add a touch of sweetness and mouthwatering texture. I freaking love this scent and it is currently in my show and in rotation right now. It is perfect for fall and winter. The whipped soap cleans the hair and washes out beautifully without leaving a residue. The hair rinse conditions without adding weight. The make a great duo for my hair type.

The Gloaming- Notes: The twilight time between sunset and darkness, a cold north wind, the onset of snow, distant campfire and marshmallow.
I am familiar with The Gloaming from Tiggy's wax tarts and it was love at first sniff. The Gloaming is predominantly realistic marshmallow with vanilla undertones wrapped with a thin sweet tendril of fireside and cool ozonic frost. It is a multidimensional aroma and will be gorgeous as a hair scent.

I highly recommend FuturePrimitive bath goods. They feel like an indulgence and never disappoint me. What are you washing your hair with currently?

The garden is producing. Cucumbers hang from the vines, baby watermelons the size of small oranges look like striped green beads on a necklace, corn silk is emerging and the snails and beetles and caterpillars feast. I am feasting too, on the Whole30 again. I reset on April 15th and I am feeling pretty good. I do have the occasional sugar craving but heading them off with a cups of tea helps.

My wildflower garden is bursting with tiny cheerful blossoms. The snails and caterpillars like it in there too. But I don't mind. Maybe the girls and I will get to see some newly hatched butterflies and moths soon.

We have been testing the past couple weeks and will continue to at school. It can be mind numbing but I have spent some of the time thinking about what I want to do with the girls this summer, making financial goals, health goals and summer goals. A little reflection has been nice.

After mapping out the summer I have realized it won't be as carefree and lazy as summers past.

But that will just make the time I get to spend unwinding that much sweeter.

How is your spring coming along? What scents are you craving? I am in the mood for lavender, violets and sweet things right now.

Melting Basket 118

Wax that I melted from the last basket that I would buy again: LSC Insanity, Beezy Vanilla Custard and TDC Pink Candy Canes/Marshmallow Sugar Cookies/Toasted Marshmallows. I think I was being overly picky but I have also not been as focused on what I smell, so it had to really hit a chord for me to notice.

Handmade in Florida- Tea for Two
Handmade in Florida- Ritual Lavender
CFTKR- Peppermint & Cypress
CFTKR- Mahogany Coconut

The girls love their chicken friends. These are my step-dad's chickens and the girls always ask to hold and feed them and gather their eggs.

We also spent time feeding the cows and checking out the new calves this weekend.

It was nice to spend time walking slowly about the pasture. Savanna was delighted to watch a group of robins bobbing about the grass.

How was your weekend?

FuturePrimitive Soap Co.: Spring Order

I was slap clean out of hair conditioner. I popped over to FuturePrimitive Soap Co. and Tiggy just happened to restock all her general catalogue scents so I took that as a sign to splurge a bit. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I moon over Tiggy's Conditioning Hair Rinse. It is light on my curls but moisturizing and smells delicious. They run 9.25 pounds which is about $12.95. I don't keep up with economics like I should be either the dollar is failing or the pound is gaining or a mixture of both because it is gettin' on up there. Ah well. It won't stop me from enjoying my FuturePrimitive, I am here to say. Let's discuss scents...

Sylph- Notes: Clouds of fluffed up marshmallows infused with a glug of classic French lavender oil.
I love Sylph. In perfume oil, wax and bar soap. If lavender vanilla combos speak to you, you will want to try out Tiggy's. The lavender embodies herbal steel coolness that holds a touch of jammy rosemary and pine in its aroma. The marshmallows sweeten it up with a crystalline vanilla syrup that pairs so well with the French lavender. I am thrilled to pieces to have this as a conditioner (and shampoo!).

Cordwainer- Notes: Rows of brand new button-up shoes made with the finest new leather, vanilla scented handkerchiefs, a splash of amber cologne and rich resinous patchouli.
Cordwainer first tickled my fancy as a wax tart but really, I knew this leather patchouli would be divine as a bath and body scent. The patchouli comes through in the hair rinse and whipped soap much more than it did in the wax and that is just fine by me. This is a calming and polished patchouli accented by supple leather and amber. Earthy yet refined.

Orange Coconut Mallow- Notes: Sweet orange with a splash of coconut water and a dollop of marshmallow cream.
I have not had the pleasure of trying this scent yet and I must admit that I might not have if I hadn't had such great luck with Tiggy's Clotted Peach Cream and Strawberry Patch. I tend to shy away from fruity scents but Tiggy works magic on them. They are never artificial or cloying. I never get cavities just by smelling them. Orange Coconut Mallow is brilliant. Juicy and tart orange segments mingle with light and airy coconut shavings.

I like to pick up the matching Three In One Whipped Soaps to be my shampoo. They make for nice shaving creams too. Don't let the super light and airy texture fool you... these bad boys go a long way. They cost 6.95 pounds.

Light yet surprisingly dense goodness.

I also picked up one bar soap. It is my weakness. I chose Gothica which is a Clinique Aromatics Elixir dupe. Notes of heady florals, soft aldehydes, bluebell sap, dusky rose, heliotrope, patchouli and dark woods mark this fragrance. It smells boozy and rich like a spiced oriental fragrance. A joy to bathe with in the shower.

Tiggy's soaps seem to just get better and better.

What types of scents are you craving right now? I ended up deciding to use the Orange Coconut Mallow first since it radiated spring time to my nose.

I also find I am craving florals and light woods and amber and honey at the moment.

FuturePrimitive Soap Co.: Fall Purchase

I mentioned picking up a couple more goodies from Tiggy at FuturePrimitive not so long ago. It wasn't a large order but it hit the sweet spot.

I have greatly enjoyed catching Tiggy live filming on her IG stories from time to time. One of those videos showcased her whipping up a batch of Bath Milk Tea and and it had me jonesing for a bit more of that in my bathing ritual. And The Gloaming is a dreamy scent to experience in that format.

The Gloaming features a cold wind, snow, campfire and marshmallows. It is breathtaking in the wax formula and just as divine in the Bath Milk Tea. It truly smells of a chill late autumn or early winter twilight where bonfires roar and sweets provide a cozy nightcap. The Bath Milk Tea dissolves beautifully in the warm placid waters and creates a milky and fragrant mineral bath that relaxes and soothes both the mind and body.

Mama Didn't Listen So I Told The Bees is a soap I have enjoyed and used before and with Tiggy's new bar design I couldn't resist grabbing one again. The notes include blossom honey, cedar hives and local meadow flowers. I do adore the springy freshness of this multilayered beauty. The meadows and flowers nod white and yellow crowns of orange blossom, neroli, daisy and jasmine. There are unripe lemons and wild oranges peeking behind the blossoms. I cannot wait to use this to usher in spring.

Look at this gorgeousness. I almost hate to chop it up... but I know how amazing a treat it will be in the shower and know it will be well worth it.

What are you bathing with? Are you plotting or pondering any winter releases for bath and body?

FuturePrimitive Soap Company: Autumn Part One

Now that summer has wrapped to a close and fall is upon us, it was time to retire my FuturePrimitive Strawberry Patch whipped soap and conditioner and pick up some more festive scents. Look at how lovely this package was tied? When I cut open a box and see something so pleasing to the eye I immediately stop and set it on a shelf so I can take photos when I am less rushed. This was definitely one of those moments.

I should ask Tiggy if this old boot has any particular meaning for her. It is such a cool and seemingly random object to choose as a branding icon. Looks like a boot a mudlark would wear while trudging the shore of the Thames scouting treasures in the Victorian days.

I changed it up this time. Normally I choose the same scent in both whipped soap and hair rinse as they are used as my shampoo and conditioner. I knew I needed some Owlett's End in my life but Pumpkin 'ead beckoned as well.

Pumpkin 'ead Three in One Whipped Cream Soap- Notes: Earthy sun warmed pumpkin flesh, dry cider apple and pear nectar finished with an Autumn spice syrup. (6.95 pounds for 80 grams)
This does work nicely as a soap but I am really and truly a bar soap gal so this gets use as shampoo. A little goes a long way despite its airy lightness. This could also make a great shaving cream. Pumpkin 'ead does strike a nice balance of earthy and gourmand. It smells comforting, that dry spice mingling with tumbling leaves and fat pumpkin gourds on first inhale but then it finishes with that sweet and crisp apple and pear combination. Wondering what has taken me so long to buy this scent? Delish.

Owlett's End Conditioning Hair Rinse- Notes: A barley field long past its cutting date, an empty old house, simmering black tea, clary sage and coriander leaves, nutmeg dust, cinnamon sticks, sticky dark orange oil, blackened cardamom pods and dried tears. (9.25 pounds for 250 ml)
I cannot praise Tiggy's conditioner formula enough for my hair. My thin, curly, unruly mane just loves it. And my nose loves this scent to no end. It is another spice queen, rich in that aged orange, blackened with tea tannins and decked out in a melange of spices. There is a soft earthiness to it that keeps it from being a pomander in a bottle and the sage also adds some dusty flora to the blend. Pure bliss.

Free sample soap slivers in Cordwainer and Owlett's End.

Very grateful for the Owlett's End soap as I have a few too many soaps on hand to justify buying more but I really wanted to get this soap in my shower somehow and lookie here. (But of course I ended up picking up a Mama Didn't Listen So I  Told the Bees soap just a day or so ago- sometimes I just can't resist)

Cordwainer blends leather, vanilla, amber and patchouli and it is freaking gorgeous. The leather exudes refinement and plush softness, not overbearing or heavy handed, it melds naturally with the ambered vanilla. I am putting this one in the shower right away.

Tiggy released a few more goodies on Friday so I picked up that Bees soap and a bag of bath tea in The Gloaming. I wanted to be really bad and get the wax sampler and a few more things but I needed to be prudent given my last couple of pottery scores which I will show here soon. Do you have any fall body care items finding their way into your home?

Future Primitive: Summer 2017 Order

I missed having Future Primitive goodies around the house. I had used up all my conditioner, whipped soaps, bar soaps and wax. Thus a wee order was over due. I mainly grabbed summer scents that were on offer. Some are still available at a discounted rate. (I must also say that a kind box from a friend arrived which contained two bars of soap which I am thrilled to use! Thank you, Sarah!)

I mentioned years back that I prefer to use Future Primitive Three in One Whipped Cream Soaps as shampoo, occasionally as shaving cream, but mostly shampoo so I tend to buy my Conditioning Hair Rinse and Whipped Soap in the same scent.

Strawberry Patch- Notes: Fresh plump heritage strawberries, double cream and a dribble of cocoa absolute.
I have never had Tiggy's Strawberry Patch. It is divine! The strawberry glows sweet and aged under the burnish of amber hues, nestled in mounds of vanilla cream and that drop of cocoa transforms the whole scent and brings it deeper and lends more decadence. Almost like a touch of patchouli.

The Conditioning Hair Rinse continues to be ideal for my thin, curly, dry hair. It has a nice slip which allows for finger combing in the shower and leaves my hair to dry silk soft and fresh with scent. The summer Conditioning Hair Rinse is on sale for 6.94 pounds.

The Three in One Whipped Soaps clean my hair without leaving it overly dry and impart a gorgeous scent. Tiggy's whipped soaps are light as air, easily the lightest feeling whipped soap I have yet to encounter. These are on sale for 5.21 pounds.

Of course I had to add some wax tarts. I have had great luck with Tiggy's wax formula and scents.

Custard Cream- A sweet sugar cream sandwiched between two crunchy sweet biscuits. Just like the British classic!
These 0.78 ounce scents shots at 1.65 pounds each are in the Limited Edition area and pack quite a delicious crunch. Vanilla laden and buttery with a shortbread like snap.

Cut Throat Barbershop- Notes: A masculine blend of shaving soap, hot towels, cut throat knives, lilac water and aftershave.
Ooooooweeeee! This is a charmer. A suave fragrant gent, Barbasol scented square jawline, clean musk and that splash of crisp lilac water that trails him like a banner. Good grief is it sexy and invigorating.

Cucumber Cocktail- Notes: Cucumber juice, melon slices, crisp clean holiday air and a bit of fizz!
Summery sweet and juicy with melons and that cleanliness of cucumber, the fizz of champagne spritzers and a cool floral breeze. This is a very pleasing home fragrance.

Strawberry Parsley- Notes: Heirloom strawberries dipped in sugar with a sprinkle of fresh parsley.
Um. I am not sure what sorcery Tiggy has wrought with these blends but she is a goddess among fragrance blenders. A photorealistic strawberry shining on the vine, red and glossy and spiked with seeds. The barest hint of sweet green cuts the sugar and adds dimension.

Seaweed- Notes: A clean tangy marine blend of fresh seaweed with sea salt, ozone and a tiny hint of citrus.
A neroli and bergamot infused seaside breeze, tangy and iron clad and robust. This is not an aquatic but an ozonic deep green aroma.

Not sure what has taken me so long but I finally dropped one of these Aromatic Perfume Oil Samplers into my order. It includes five 1ml bottles from Tiggy's General Catalogue at 10 pounds. I am only going to do a brief review of each scent to give impressions. If I end up buying any of them in full bottles I will do a more in-depth review at that time.

Rook and Raven- Notes: A dark, mystifying blend of sweet Sicilian orange with a dry-down of aged patchouli, sandalwood and blackened vanilla.
Darkly spiced oranges, vibrant and concentrated, tamed with sticky ebony patchouli are balanced with that drop of black vanilla. The base lingers as smooth sandalwood and velvety patchouli just tinted with dried orange rinds. At its deepest the patchouli shines. Lovely.

Arabian Nights- Notes: Arabian desert. Dusk. The sky washed with a purple orange bloom. A balmy breeze casts casts aromas from a distant town across rippling sand dunes. Heady florals mingle with spiced citrus fruits, resins and dry leaves, enveloping you in a haze of memories that will never fade.
A beautiful illustration of an exotic desert landscape. Orange blossoms and jasmine flowers ply the senses with arid grace while amber and patchouli ground the spiced florals in mysterious richness. The base blooms in a musky sweet resinous and woody dream. A stunning fragrance.

Incantation- Notes: A bewitching haze of labdanum absolute, patchouli oil, white sandalwood accord, a twist of green bergamot and droplets of Italian cypress.
The resinous cypress and almost camphorous bergamot begin the intoxicating brew... the sparkling combination almost has a lemony frankincense facet. Light and airy sepia toned patchouli crumbles its leaves into an apothecary jar and splintery chips of sandalwood join them.

Dark Carnival- Notes: A curious carnival cart offering sweet treats. Honeycomb drizzled with warm caramel sauce, newspaper cones filled with hot sugared walnuts, fresh coconuts from the shy and velvet pouches filled with nuggets of amber and tonka beans.
Gorgeous and golden honeyed amber shimmers in a pool of caramel that deepens as the scent wears on. The barest breath of coconut hovers around the edges. In the deep dry-down the lasting scent of sweet honey resins lingers long. Dark Carnival is fast becoming one of my favorite scents from Future Primitive. It was amazing in the wax tart form too.

Sylph- Notes: Clouds of fluffed up marshmallows infused with a glug of classic French lavender oil.
A beautifully executed lavender vanilla blend that features herbal almost licorice leaning lavender married to vanilla sugar encrusted marshmallows. It almost smells like grapes at the tail end. It is decadent and mouth watering. Less sweet and more deep and furry than Solstice Scent's version, more lavender less vanilla. Dreamy.

Cottingley Beck soap blends mint and basil in a rustic and endearing offering to the fairies. Being such a fan of mint soaps I am at a loss of why I have not brought a bar of this home to me. It is the perfect bouquet of fresh picked mint twigs.

French Lavender soap smells of steel lavender buds, silvery and herbal. Another bar soap staple.

Once again, I am content to have some Future Primitive goodies in house. I most look forward to her autumn offerings, hoping Owlette's End makes a come back. Do you have any Future Primitive favorites that you look forward to getting? What soaps are you washing with?
