I brought this candle with me to North Carolina and burned it in our bedroom. It was one of a few I bought from Wick & Fable a while back. I would normally link to the shop as I usually do but Wick & Fable is currently closed to revamp their offerings. I believe they decided to amp up their subscription box game and make it more of a true subscription box rather than the order one-at-a-time that they used to offer. I am guessing candles will still be on offer to purchase as that is in their name. Either way. I wanted to tell you about this particular one.
Rowan-Notes: Frosted pine, icy snow and spearmint.
This 8 ounce candle threw strong in the bedroom and burned perfectly. The fresh cut scent of resinous pine trees and cool sweet mint is paired in a creamy cool cabin-esque aroma. I love it. And I burned it all. When they open back up I will be adding this one to a cart quickly.
Are you loving any candles lately? I have a ton of Sihaya & Company candles to share as I burn them too.
Beautifully burning candle. Strong wicks, steady flame, no tunneling. Medium-light throw in large areas and medium-strong throw in bedrooms. Aroma of warm resinous amber with wooden tones and soft incense. An enjoyable candle I would purchase again.
An 8 ounce soy, vegan candle for $18.00, purchased during BOGO 1/2 off sale.
Adam, the girls and I will be spending the weekend in Orlando and some of that time will be spent sipping some Butterbeers. My sisters and I have already been texting and planning Christmas celebrations. Plotting Thanksgiving get togethers. Plus my mom and Darby have a shared birthday coming up and mine just around the corner too. This year's holidays will be bittersweet as they will be the last ones in this home of ours that we have nested in for the past 14 years.
Are you looking forward to some good food and friends or family for Thanksgiving? What are you doing this weekend?
I mentioned getting this September Hogwarts box from Wick & Fable a little while ago. I enjoyed the fantasy box from August so much that I knew I simply needed the Hogwarts box that was to follow. It did not disappoint. I picked up the Deluxe Box for $49.99. It contained four 2 ounce candles and one 4 ounce candle that magically transforms into a house color, sorting you by the flame of House Pride. The wand pencil was quickly put to use at school.
Studying at the Library-Notes: Old books and warm crackling woods.
Not a fan of this one on cold. It smells like glue but not in a good way. There is some kinda funk to it. Like the first day of wearing new leather shoes without socks and a sprinkling of plastic.
Hogsmeade Weekends-Notes: Butterbeer, creamy vanilla and bourbon spice.
Aaahhhh... much better. This one smells delish. Creamy caramel and butterscotch with a touch of vanilla whiskey.
Mischief Managed- Notes: Cold air breezes, peppermint and sugar crystals.
My favorite candle of the bunch. A cool vanilla mint with a touch of crisp ozone that takes it through the crunching snowy day into Hogsmeade. The vanilla possesses a drop of coconut.
Detention with Umbridge- Notes: Vanilla orchid, pink floral and cozy fire.
Unique indeed. A smoky fireside floral with hints of tea and something that almost smells like Pink Sands. A near perfect rendition of what Umbridge's office would be redolent of.
House Pride-Notes: Pumpkin juice, cookie crunch and maple sugar.
I was sorted into Ravenclaw! But I think perhaps this was meant for Savanna as she is a Ravenclaw and I am truly a Hufflepuff. But it was cool to see the blue hue melt and swirl up to the surface. And the candle smells amazing. Like a chewy pumpkin cookie with a drizzle of caramel on top. This one throws nicely in smaller areas and is my new bedside candle.
A large zip tote meant for holding books, along the lines of a book sleeve, was in the box. I don't think I will use it for that purpose given the dimensions but I will happily use it for travel purposes. It does sport one of my favorite quotes from Ron about Hermione. I think it will be a great makeup bag or sewing pouch.
The Hogwarts professors featured as magnetic bookmarks are adorable and will keep watch over my book learning. Kawaii anime images of Snape and McGonagall, Sprout and Flitwick all pose with some of their signature magical tools.
A wooden art card of Snape's patronus makes for a lovely bookmark. I currently have mine hanging up on my bulletin board at work above my desk. The wood is thin and can warp but it is quite beautiful.
This box also came with a Luna Lovegood cork coaster that can be paired with other coasters from other boxes I believe, but not sure. A postcard art with the magical trio depicted in a cozy warm Gryffindor common room came in the box, that also hangs on my cork board.
Lastly, a Hogwarts Express wallet was tucked into the box. It is nice! Initially, I had not planned on using it but it is growing on me. I bet before the week is out I will have switched all my cards and such over to it.
This tiny 2 ounce candle from Wick and Fable, Middle Earth, is not as "fresh and clean" as I had anticipated due to the notes. I am in fact quite happy about that. There is a smooth roundness to the scent that almost reminds me of vanilla somehow. This is an interesting scent to be sure but it is on the medium-light side. I stick it on my nightstand for feel-good ambience more than anything else. I do love these small candles from Wick & Fable. They normally burn really well. I think they can only be had by buying their monthly box. I am on pins and needles waiting for that Harry Potter box to arrive from September.
I am going to finally burn my Autumn Day candle from Bath & Body Works this weekend.
I have not been keeping up on the candle scene... are there any good scents from Bath & Body Works this fall? Any new candle vendors? I did see Andy Tauer came out with some candles. They are $60 I believe, so if I get one it would be a splurge to be sure.
The Burrow- Notes: Freshly baked treacle tart and whipped cream. $16 for 8 ounce candle
I mainly wanted this because I do love everything about The Burrow but also treacle tarts taste delicious. This one was an anomaly as far as how it burned. This one is tunneling a little, leaving some unmelted wax on the sides despite burning for long periods of time. The scent smells of warm caramel and cream. The throw was lighter on this one too. Pretty much light to medium-light in the larger living areas and medium-light to medium throw in my bedroom.
So pretty much just an atmospheric candle with a hint of scent which is not cool for a $16 candle, but I guess they can't all be winners. I have certainly had this happen with Yankee and Bath & Body Works from time to time.
I will put this one by the bathtub and light a new one for the living room this weekend.
Even though I cannot visit The Burrow I can still visit the Weasley twins. And that is just as cool.
Good morning! I am ready for a lazy Sunday. Well, not too lazy. I have plans today of sweeping and picking up my clothes and baking the first apple pies of the season with the girls. My grandfather is not doing too well so we will be swinging by to give him a small apple pie. But other than that I plan on being kinda lazy. Watching some Charmed, reading some Poe. And having this lovely candle nearby to sniff.
Wick & Fable'sTea With Hagrid blends Early Grey tea leaves, shaved nutmeg and spiced caramel into a cozy tea blend. The nutmeg and spices are very, very tame in this one. In fact, I don't even really pick up on them. This is mostly a tea scent. A clear, sweet tea that is lightly steeped and softly floral. It burns beautifully with a white wax that swirls with fine glitter. The throw is medium in my large living area. It pairs companionably with my current fall wax melting. I love the label art.
This 8 ounce candle runs $16 at regular price but I purchased it during their BOGO 1/2 off sale.
I would consider purchasing this candle again. I am slowly coming around to tea-based scents and this a well crafted, subtle tea to cut my teeth on. I do wish the spice was a bit more prominent but I am sure those who are spice adverse appreciate it just the way it is.
I just mostly wish I could actually have tea with Hagrid.
I mentioned a while back that I grabbed some candles from Wick & Fable's BOGO 1/2 Off Sale. Two 8 ounce candles were $27, rather than $36. I ordered a total of 6 candles across multiple fandoms, but mostly Harry Potter. I did grab this Second Breakfast candle because anything Hobbit related has my heart too. I was in the mood for fall candles and this one fits that nicely I think.
Second Breakfast-Notes: Golden batter, pancakes, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, toast.
This is certainly a pancake scent. Fluffy buttermilk pancakes with a pinch of floury breadiness and just the merest hint of spice for warmth and flavor. Not overly sweet and no maple tones to my nose. This candle burns wonderfully easy and melts into a pale blue glittery wax pool. It throws strong. Even when I was sick and stuffy I could pick up wisps of it while it was burning but now that I am better it is loud and proud.
If you are a fan of pancake scents or French baguette scents with a little bit of breadiness you would like this one. I enjoyed burning it but I would probably try a different scent next time. Perhaps another Lord of the Rings or Hobbit variation?
Be on the lookout for some more Wick & Fable candles coming up. I have quite a few cozy Potter ones on deck.
Wick & Fable is a company I have had some experiences with before. They craft literature based candles and also curate monthly subscription boxes. A friend told me about a Studio Ghibli box they released about a year ago. I picked it up and enjoyed it. Their 2 ounce candles were perfect for my nightstand and they threw well. I didn't blog about it but I very much liked it. I bought some BOGO 1/2 off candles a few weeks ago and also spied a fun Wanderlust box that featured fantasy themes. They have Essentials boxes for $24.99 and Deluxe boxes for $49.99. Often a 10% off coupon can be found online from various brand reps. I have used Melody10 and a few others.
I used a 10% off code for this Deluxe box and after the $5 shipping it was pretty much $50 even. It came shipped in a huge priority box and I almost didn't recognize what it was. That is because one of the items in the box was a huge circular towel with a fringe on it. It was a Lord of the Rings towel so I was totally stoked. Sorry I didn't take a photo. But it was cool.
What is also cool is the artwork. The box itself ended up being an Alice in Wonderland theme while the information card was more whimsical fairytale.
Two art cards came in the box. One is from Harry Potter and the other is from Six of Crows but I am still pretending it is Harry Potter. It kind of reminds me of when they were on the roof of Borgin and Burkes spying on Draco. I am always up for some Burrow reminiscing so naturally that one is my favorite. Some of my treasured scenes in the book are of Molly singing to the warbling Celestina Warbeck while darning socks or slicing root vegetables for dinner by magic.
My friend Sandra has extolled the virtues of The Night Circus and I am ready to hunt it down. After all, there is a pillowcase in my possession now with that theme. It is quite large, no wimpy pillow cases here. I would say it fits a standard 20" or so square pillow. If I ever get a designated library room I would totally use this pillow in there.
Candles! Wick & Fable makes pretty candles. I just love the labels and they often do well for me.
Hogwarts-Notes: Baked goods blended with lemon flower and sea salt with nuances of jojoba, coconut, cherry wood and melon blossom. 4 oz
The notes are an interesting blend. Fresh bakery? But the overall scent pleasantly comes off as a picnic on a spring day with a plate of lemon squares to enjoy. Having burned these candles before, I am familiar with their quality and it is nice to say they are pleasantly consistent. They burn very well, with strong wicks and an easy wax pool. The wax pool though... it is something to behold. As the wax melts a fine galaxy of glitter starts to fountain up from the center and moves out to the edges. In the smaller 2 ounce candles it does it quite rapidly and in this 4 ounce one it moves more slowly. Once I burned this candle the lemon bakery reminded me of the treacle tarts I made several years ago. A mellow sweet bakery with the barest hint of lemon zest for subtle flavor. The soft florals paired surprisingly well with this. The throw was medium-strong by the bath tub. Incidentally, it made for an excellent bubble bath scent. Lightly refreshing and subtly sweet.
Narnia Palace-Notes: A warm and cool blend of woodsy cypress, rosemary sprigs, sugar mint and oak moss resin. 2 oz
This is one of my favorite scents in the box. I enjoyed reading the Chronicles of Narnia and having this wintery sweet scent that matches it is wonderful. The mint is very mellow but the sugared herbs and woods are lovely. I am saving this one for nightstand burning this winter. Maybe my birthday?
Middle Earth- Notes: A super strong scent with top notes of fresh breezes and bottom notes of herbs, earthy rain and citrus. 2 oz
A sweet clean aroma with vague lemon tones. It reminds me a little of that yuzu bubble bar from Lush that I like. Definitely a little Lushy. Creamy clean citrus. I like it.
Faerie Realm-Notes: Hints of slightly sweet dandelion and wildflowers are blended with lemon and creamy vanilla. 2 oz
The citrus in this one is very zesty and not as creamy and mellow as Middle Earth. This reminds me of the Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger tea that has nuances of hibiscus and raspberry along with the strong lemon. This one burned beautifully and threw medium-strong in the office. I had this going for the one hour live chat Montessori class I was attending and within that time it had formed a nice wax pool and aroma in the room. The lemon was a touch too herbal and sharp for my liking but I will still burn it up. Check out the video below to see that glitter bubbling up in the wax.
Terrasen-Notes: A very fresh and delicate blend of wildflowers and whispers of forest pine on a background of fresh ozone and soft citrus. 2 oz
This one possesses watery notes that feel more like aloe and mellow cactus and sea salt. I burned this one on my nightstand. I love these two ounce sizes. They fit perfectly in these Turkish candle holders my friend Ashley gifted me from when she lived there. This one burned evenly and beautifully. It threw medium-strong in my bedroom. The scent retained it cold throw impression and was relaxing.
I liked the theme, though the Wanderland seemed a bit all over the place. Happily there were a few of my fandoms and the towel and candles were worth it alone. The candles seemed to be lemon focused which was suitable for summer offerings. They currently have a Hogwarts box up on the website (yep I bought it) and it looks to be pretty darn sweet.
Keep your peepers peeled for some random Wick & Fable candle reviews. I have several to feature as fall rolls in. Have you tried Wick & Fable? Are you currently trying out any subscription boxes?
