I have a few new decorations I wanted to share. My Mother-In-Law gifted me this pretty whitewashed wooden mermaid for Christmas. I knew right where she was going to live, next door to the iron seahorse.

I also got the coolest corner shelf made from an old reclaimed door (the glass door knob even works!). My sister Darby and I saw these in an antique store in Plant City and we were gaga over them. She surprised me with one for Christmas. I am still flabbergasted by her generosity. So sweet and appreciated! I am tossing around the idea of white washing it a bit more, still leaving it distressed, and painting the shelves bright colors.

The light up "J" was at Books-A-Million and I just so happened to have a gift card handy from a sweet student. It had to come home with me.

Any decorating going on in your home? Cool thrift store finds? Thinking of re-purposing something?

Missouri River Soaps: Wax and Owls and mayhap a bit of Sherlock....

Those eyes... those large owlish eyes are gazing at me, pleading for their lives. Alas, I must cut them and melt them at some point. At least I know of one that has made it out of my wax stash alive and now resides in a sweet girl's bedroom.

Once Holly posted those owls on the Missouri River Soap Facebook page, I knew I was a goner. I find it funny that the eyes can influence me so much on something that is just meant to melt into a puddle and smell good. A box full of scent shots would be just as efficient at creating a cozy home atmosphere as a box of rabbits, owls, food shapes or colorful chunks. But I fall for the visual appeal every time. Maybe my mind subconsciously interprets it as a vendor's dedication and talent. Maybe I feel if the owner takes the time to create a beautiful wax tart then she certainly has taken the time to make it a quality one. Or maybe I am just attracted to the pretty. Of course there are exceptions, I have had plain colorless disks throw 100 times better than a full fledged work of art. Thankfully, Holly's look great and perform great.

Sugared Donuts- Sweet, cakey and vanilla laden. Wonderful comfort scent and perfect for company or others who like simple but well done home fragrance.

Butterscotch Rum- Caramel drenched spiced rum cake. Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg. For being small, these leaves were mighty. They threw strong caramel and spice around my living room and kitchen for two evenings. Excellent.

Cozy in the Kitchen- Warm homemade apple cider. I plopped a whole owl into the warmer and it threw a medium to medium light apple cider scent. I think I should have cut them in half. Maybe the 2.5 ounces was too much. I was in a reckless mood and throwing caution into the wind (and owls into the warmers, willy nilly).

Peach Bellini- Ripe Georgia peaches, so bright that they masquerade as mangos and vanilla infused champagne.

Jolly Rancher Type- Watermelons, apples, strawberries all formed into those colorful transparent rectangular prisms we all knew and loved in our childhood. Open the bag of candy and this is the scent that wafts out. Now and Laters come to mind as well.

Hi guys!

Free Samples in: Clean Cotton, Gourding Around (yes!), Realli Vanilli, Sunshine + Rainbows, and Jamaican Me Crazy. I now will be stalking for Realli Vanilli, because girl you know it's true... oooo....oooo...oooooooo.... I love... vanilla.

I have been dipping into the mystery genre book bin at the middle school. I read Agatha Christie for the first time. I recently discovered she is the third most read author after God and Shakespeare. I thoroughly enjoyed And Then There Were None by Agatha. Next, I hauled out The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and have been loving it. Especially after watching some of the series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Those guys have Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's characters down pat. I have only watched all of season 1 and 2, so please, no spoilers! What any good shows lately? Read any good books? Who do you think has the best looking wax? Please! Do tell!

Missouri River Soap: Small Wax Tart Order

I blame the owls and vanilla pumpkin scent. That is my excuse for placing a teeny order from Missouri River Soap, again, when Holly restocked recently. With a few exceptions, I find it easier on my stash and wallet if I place really small orders than larger orders. I know that seems like a "DUH" comment, but in the past I rationalized if I bought larger orders then I would not have to order as frequently. Well, that was joke. I like too many smellies and vendors. So, unless it is Rosegirls or SMT (who only open about twice a year, thus requiring "Go Big or Go Home" orders from me) I am keeping things small. And cute things come in small packages....

Vanilla Pumpkin- These caramel colored cuties weighed in at about 0.7 ounces each and were $3.25 for a 4-pack. I have never laid nose on a pumpkin that smelled like this! It reminds me of a pumpkin coconut flan. No spice. All creaminess. The vanilla is so rich and creamy it comes across as coconut milk. I love it.

Cherry-Dipity Donut- I wanted to share this amazing scent with a few friends so I ordered another one for myself.  Each donut is about 0.7 ounces and the 4-pack was $2.75. I reviewed this on cold previously, here I will review it warmed. I put one of the tarts in my living room/kitchen area and probably should have used two in hindsight. The scent was a cheerful cherry heavy serendipity with coconut and tropical fruits accompanying. I got more of a glaze from the donut than dough. The throw was medium light which is not bad for a little 0.7 ounce tart in such a huge open space. I am excited to use two next time and splurge a little. I have to say I never realized I enjoyed cherry scents so much until I met this blend.

Apple Almond Cookie- These bitty baby owls are about 0.3 ounces each and cost $2.00 for a 6-pack. Ruby red Macintosh apples with a whisper of cherry-almond. Another unique blend and lovely twist on a fall scent.

Free Samples:

Clean Cotton- Reminds me of Gain and my mother-in-law's clean smelling home. Strong and fresh like its name implies.

Gourding Around- Holly informed me that this scent is composed of fresh aloe, green clover and bright citrus. These all combine to create a unique and fun fragrance. My nose gathers: lemons, a touch of greenery from the clover and a raw butternut squash hint. Seriously! Like that faint squishy squash smell from carving pumpkins? I think the aloe is what is giving the illusion of actual squash. This is one neat scent.

Enchanted Apple- Winter Candy Apple and a great duplication. It smells more magnified some how to the point of bordering on a mild soapiness. It is beautiful.

I am happy with my Missouri River Soap wax tarts. Yesterday I plopped two Fruit Loop Dreams into the bedroom warmer and they threw a strong orange focused citrus blast all around the room. I look forward to discovering the new blends Holly will come up with in the future. And the owls... too cute.

Missouri River Soap: Camocado

Missouri River Soaps set the bar high on texture. Camocado is slick and smooth like an eel, that leaves a pleasant slip as it is lathered. It rinses cleanly leaving fresh tug on the skin without the tightness of residue. My skin feels softer after bathing with Camocado. The scent is sweet mint, not overpowering or tingling. I detect the barest whiff of chocolate to my nose. Almost like an Ande. Camocado feels and smells solid and practical. My skin and senses are comforted.

Enjoy your week!

MIssouri River Soap: Wax Tart & Soap Haul

Cuteness abound!!! My first order with Missouri River Soap is full of colorful shapes, bright fun aromas and attention to detail.

The bubble mailer was packed with care. The samples came in the aqua and white polka dot paper bag.

Wax! When Holly posted the wax tart scent list for this opening on Facebook, little pink hearts flashed in my eyeballs. They are even better in real life. All were $2.75 a pack, except the Fruity Rice Krispies, those were $3.00.

This soap came home with me too. $5.75 for a bar of relaxing schmexiness. Sweet, minty man is a great description. My Duck Dynasty guy (sans beard) will probably use this up just because it is camo.

Freebies! I really enjoy these wax parchment envelopes and the detailed labeling. The font is beautiful, the information is comprehensive, and the owl illustration? Yes, please. The following scent descriptions are entirely my own (based on my nostril receptors) and may be way off from actual notes.

I die. Look at these?! Will I even be able to melt them? I do not know. Fruity Rice Krispies smell like Fruity Pebbles with something extra. As a child who ate copious amounts of Fruity Pebbles, I can attest. Already I can feel the mouth full of tiny delicate air crisped bits of colorful sugar laden artificial fruit crunch. Like bitty bubbles of fruity cereal fun popping on my tongue. There is a touch of lemon sugar cookie scent in these with the Fruity Pebble vibe. These squares were about 0.7 oz each.

Fruit Loop Dreams, a nice creamy classic Fruit Loop aroma. Citrusy and charming. Again, about 0.7 oz each square.

Cherry- Dipity Donut is strong baby. My nose sings with the combo of a cherry berry punch type of scent with serendipity as a counterpoint. The donut is hiding amongst the bounty of cherries but if I had to guess it would be a jelly donut holed up in there. Donut... holes... hahahahhahhah!!! Excuse me while I entertain my corny self. These weighed 0.6 oz each.

Blueberry Donut is one my blueberry loving oldest will be nabbing. I just know it. Fun, young at heart and reminiscent of Blueberry Muffin, Strawberry Shortcake's pal who lives in Berry Bitty City. Blueberry Muffin was eating jelly donuts too. These weighed between 0.5 and 0.7 oz each.

Peach Paradise's tropical hues are painted with juicy mango, papaya and nectarine. Juicy and flavorful shades of orange.  Dark Owl is just the cutest ding dang thing I have ever seen. Hedwig (as I have christened him) smells like warm vanilla sugar. Soothing, rich, deep and musky. At 0.3 oz she is perfect for my bathroom Scentsy plug-in .

Summer Vacation smells clean and fresh with ozone and aquatics notes. Just as you imagine your skin smelling after a long day at the beach.

I am really glad these tarts are smaller. My smelly sisters have been discussing the "less is more" theory in melting wax. It goes something like: melting less wax can create more throw since the surface area of the wax melting is greater and allows more of the fragrance pull through than if it is a deeper pool. I tend to melt more. But since these tarts are all less than one ounce I am going to give it a go just using one at a time first, maybe two. I am really happy with my order and will post melted reviews soon.Happy Saturday! Going to eat lunch at Cafe Tu Tu Tango in Orlando with a couple of friends. I love tapas. Hoping the day brings something fun and unexpected for you.

Missouri River Soap: Rainbow

Missouri River Soap... oh my heart. Look at those colors. Holly, the owner and soap maker at Missouri River Soap, must find the ends of rainbows and instead of taking the gold, shaves bits of the bottom off to make soap.

This sample soap chunk was a gift from Jean. Thank you Jean!

Rainbow is a pear scent that is juicy and sweet. Pear and I do not get along well in wax but in soap I do not mind it. Skittles or rainbow sherbet scents would have been fun but maybe a bit too expected? Jean told me this soap felt like dolphin skin to her and I would have to agree. Rubbing it between my hands, it felt solid and smooth with the barest hint of velvet. The lather built quickly and slid like silk in its mission to get me clean. It rinsed off, leaving no residue behind.

Missouri River Soaps also dabbles in the most beautiful wax creations on occasion. My sample is quickly disappearing but I placed an order yesterday. Her website was restocked then and a few tarts and a camo soap decided to come home to me. She will be releasing and restocking new soaps and wax on August 10th and August 24th tentatively, as well.
