Streetman Candle Company: Boutique de Fleur Candle

Heather Streetman from Streetman Candle Company, or Streetman Company Store, has been making and selling candles and wax products for several years. She is also one mean cook and with her husband, creates some fabulous seasonings and foodie items. But back to this candle business. Heather has been back in the saddle and pouring candles again. She sells her 11 ounce candles for $10 each and offers a few scents at a time via her Facebook business page and her Facebook group page as well I believe. I entered a contest a few weeks ago and won a candle of my choice from three scents. I picked Boutique de Fleur.

Boutique de Fleur- Notes: A blend of roses, magnolia, gardenia, tuberose, arris blossom with a touch of vanilla and a hint of sugar.

This candle throws like a beast, folks. The wick stood tall and strong and the flame flickered nicely. A pool formed after about an hour or two. I feel like this will be a nice slow burning candle that will last a good long while. The scent of summertime honeysuckle filled the whole living area and kitchen and even crept into my bedroom and the hallway. This is not an abrasive or artificial floral scent but a realistic still-life of a bounty of southern flowers. Creamy, sun drenched gardenias and wild narcotic tuberose stand at the forefront and though I know honeysuckle and jasmine aren't listed as notes, their presence pours forth to my senses. I loved lighting this at the tail end of summer. I will continue to burn it until September 1st hits and then sock it away in my closet until spring.

I am thrilled Heather is back at the helm, creating and inspiring, using aromatic means to bring happiness and scent into our homes. I will be stalking her Facebook page for more candle scents in the future.

Do you miss Streetman? Ready to bring some back into your home? What Streetman scent would you love to see in a candle? I miss Strawberry Woods, Summer Lovin', Apple Cinnamon Honey Cake and 30 Below. Oh! And Cotton Candy Spruce Berries.

Melting Basket 47

The last basket had a ton of repurchases! I must have made a doozy! Tarts I would absolutely buy again include: RG Pink Spearmint, CFTKR Baked Apple, Cedar Sage & Blackberry, and Ultimate Serendipity, TDC Vintage Vanilla a beautiful musky vanilla that throws insanely and lasts all day long, LCP Cinnamon Broom, The Candle Lab Mahogany/Dad's Den/Coconut and Pine Needles/Cinnamon/Vanilla Bean I am hoping to bring you all more about The Candle Lab soon.

Rustik Country Krafts- Nag Champa
Rustik Country Krafts- Patchouli

A hippy, earthy, smokey, and herbal basket. This category of tarts was starting to pile up in my wax drawer (I store my wax like Jacqui- by scent genres). So I decided what better time to melt some earthy than fall? If there are any you would like reviewed in depth please comment and it would make me happy to do so!

I started lamenting that fact that I really did not have much to explore around my home nature-wise... then I remembered... duh. You have woods in your backyard. Is it like if you see something long enough you forget it is there? Or maybe I just never really thought there could be beauty in a tiny and somewhat urban stretch of trees.

I was wrong. Thankfully.

So I gained dozens of mosquito bites, a few scratches, and several burrs but I also drank in nature. I tried to ignore the random trash and thorns, but isn't that what we do in life? Choose to ignore the ugly and negative sometimes and focus on the beauty and positive. I need to, at least a little. Or getting through a day is sometimes difficult.

This weekend brings my in-laws up for a visit, maybe some fall pumpkin something or other baking, and hopefully some reading. My book pile has grown lately. How is your week going? Looking forward to anything?

Paul once said, "For what I am going, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate."

Ugh. I am so there. I usually use the summer to make resolutions. Not the beginning of the year so much, but the summer. When I have off. When I have more time. I did well with a lot of things I wanted to change for a while but I lost momentum once I went back to work. I got overwhelmed. I lost sight.

And the thing is... I feel so much better when I am doing the very things I am striving to do. So why is it so hard to maintain that momentum?

Some things that make me feel better but that I have not yet managed to make a routine in my life:

- Read my Bible everyday.
- Be active for 30 minutes a day.
- Eat more vegetables and no prepackaged junk food.
- Go outside for quiet time every day, barefoot and alone.

It's Monday, I am hitting the reset button and trying again. What are/were some of your "why do I do this thing I don't want to do" things? What motivates you to do the things you need to do?

Even though I am ready for all things fall and apples and pumpkins... let me be real. It is still very much summer here in central Florida. Late summer flowers keep blooming, the copious rain storms have the Bahia grass growing knee high, and temps in the high 90's.

Heck. Even the emerald iridescent June bugs don't realize it is August. Beardie is eating well though. He loves fresh June bugs. Too bad he doesn't eat snakes...

Lasting Scent Candles posted recently about a fall opening. That got me excited for Black Pumpkin, Autumn Dreamin' and Lemon Ginger Snaps. The fall decorations are coming out of the attic this weekend. When you are setting up your autumn decorations?

This is my last week of summer. School and work commences very shortly and once that does, the holidays come steam rolling down the pike. The holidays are always a joyous and exciting time with the girls. They still believe in all the magic, though I know that time is quickly coming to a pass. Anyway, before all that comes, back -to-school first. Which means it is time for the Mermaid's second annual Back-To-School Giveaway! I will be announcing the giveaway officially on the 24th, on the girls' first day of school. In the meantime, back to my last days laying in pools of sunlight, napping and reading books. Much like this gal. Without the reading books part. (By the way- deeply into The Heroes of Olympus and on Book 4).

What are you reading? Does back-to-school affect your life at all?

Streetman: July Order

Heather Streetman posted in her Facebook group last month that she was open to some custom orders for wax tarts via messaging. I hurriedly messaged her with some one ounce scent shot requests (and an exfoliating shave cream, but alas, she was out). Heather quickly whipped up my order and sent it out. She is a wonderfully sweet lady and has some really amazing wax. You can still message her about custom wax orders, so get on it! She will also be coming out with a candle line in the future and her body products and seasonings will be available too here shortly. After placing this order and smelling some of the samples I ordered two more scents. So what did I get?!

Strawberry Woods- Bought and reviewed previously but I am still in love. A surprisingly delicious blend of strawberry and woods (reminds me of sandalwood and musk). Streetman strawberry is top notch. I actually plan on blending this with Summer Lovin'.

Cotton Candied Spruce Berries- An oldie but a goodie. Repurchase times a thousand. A great year 'round berry scent. Can you tell I like my berries woodsy?

Lemon Berry Fields Forever- Repurchase. Again. And again. A sweet berry and citrus floral that smells so strong and lovely.

Salt & Lime- I got this as a sample last order and fell madly deeply obsessed. Lauren can vouch for me. This blend is the bees knees. The best sour lime salt that makes your mouth water and jaws pinch.

Summer Lovin'- Repurchase. See a theme here? Sorry to be boring, but these are scents I just can't get from other vendors. A gorgeous smooth vanilla sandalwood blend with depth.

Lavender Mint- The mint is very soft and mellow, nicely highlighting the herbal lavender and rounding its green edges. Lovely.

Peppermint Eucalyptus Pine-  I asked Heather to blend up something piney and minty. This is perfect. The mint has a nice backbone that supports the camphor and resins of the pine and eucalyptus. It smells like an Aspen lodge spa.

Free Samples:

Pinked Eucalyptus- Amazing. Heavy Pink Sugar with minty eucalyptus whispering around the edges. Bought more.

30 Below- A musky vanilla mint that I am swooning over. Swooning. Bought more.

Salty Sea Air- An ozonic driftwood type scent that reminds me of Cactus & Sea Salt in its aquatic vibe.

Earth- Legit, straight up bag of potting soil. Opened and moist, ready to nurture some seeds.

Apple Cinnamon Honey Cake- So yum. A nice fat sweet mac apple with a teeny tiny touch of spice and a glug of honey. Saving for fall.

I highly highly recommend getting some Streetman wax before the wax tart shop closes and she runs out of wax supplies. I am so happy to have a box of these little scent shots to melt for months to come. What are some of your favorite Streetman scents? Are there some I should be getting but missed? Have you messaged her yet?!

Sniff My Tarts is slated to open August 15th at noon and I hope to order a few chunks and sheet cakes. It is supposed to be a super fast opening in order to cut down on their TAT. Right now they are running around 8 or 9 months.

This Saturday (tomorrow) at 6pm EST I believe, Solstice Scents will be releasing their much anticipated EDP fragrances. I am hoping to try a few in sample sizes.

Have you ordered anything you are looking forward to getting? I hope your August is going beautifully!

Summer is zipping by, but as it quickly passes it is bringing the much needed restoration and invigoration that I needed. I can feel my creativity flowing back from the deep ebb, almost drought, it was in these past several months. My old Singer has been getting much love from me. My Bible has too. And so have my knives, cutting board and hand mixer. My weights and tennis shoes. My yoga pants have actually been used to yoga. I mean, how great is that?! Weight and worries drop away like unwanted bricks that I did not even realize were pressing me down.

I am currently working on a strip quilt, a square scrap quilt I have been sewing for several years, a small Liberty of London lap quilt, a passport cover tutorial, a huge embroidery hoop display for our bedroom, and I have been itching to use my beloved Liberty of London fabric stash to sew a dress for myself. I am thinking like the kind where you take a shirt top and sew a waistband and skirt onto it. Something comfy but kind of cute.

I hope the summer has been bringing you renewal too. And not too much heat and humidity. Any trips or crafts or projects going on in your neck of the woods?

Juliana on Instagram helped me with this basket. I was wanting another theme and she suggested beachy. How perfect?! A nice way to celebrate the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL! If you see anything you would like to have reviewed in the basket, please let me know.

So my new lens came in. I opted for a refurbished 35mm 1.8G AF-S DX for my old Nikon D40 that I use. I wanted the 50mm but with the D40 it does not have auto-focus and this gal needs auto-focus still. Shooting manual is great fun but manual focus and I are not acquainted. I am really excited but now you will have to go through the awkward phase of watching me learn to use it. Hopefully you will see some improvement as I continue to practice.

My bleeding hearts are all a'bloom. My mom bought this plant for me at The Barn years ago and it loves where it was planted. One of the few plants I have not killed off. It's the small things.

I have had a difficult May. My health, work and morale have hit an all-time low. The only way I can get through one more second, minute, hour of the day during the week is to count my blessings in my head. The tears still come. The anger still rages. The blues still fall on me like a veil. But I can get out of bed. I can see light at the end of the tunnel... lazy summer days with my girls, reuniting with girlfriends, and the family getaway to the mountains. I know this season of difficulty will come to an end. It is just not knowing how much farther that is hard. Do you have cycles and seasons of distress? What do you do to help get through them?

Streetman: Last Order Before Closing

Streetman is closed. Streetman was awesome and I did not order from there nearly enough. I keep hoping they will open up one day again in the not too distant future. When the last All Call was given for customs there were some scents I knew I needed to get.

Cotton Candied Spruce Berries has been melted in this house a few times before. Jacqui gifted me a baggie of this scent in sticks and I am ever grateful she did. Streetman's Cotton Candied Spruce is great as is, but adding dark juicy berries takes it to the incredible level. By the way, these one ounce scent shots throw like champs.

Honeysuckle Jasmine Surfer Girl combines the Honeysuckle Jasmine scent Lauren gifted me over a year ago in a Thanksgiving giveaway she hosted and Surfer Girl that Sunnee gifted me as well. These two blend so effortlessly, as to smell seamless. Beach cottage by the shore. Redolent mermaids. Flowering vines crusted with sea spray.

Lemon Berry Fields Forever was in one of the only Streetman samplers I bought forever ago, but it stuck with me. I am not normally a lemon and berry fruits kinda gal but this one wafts out so wonderfully exuberant and clear I cannot resist it. The lemon smells like Lemonheads, the berries are ripe and the ever so slight suggestion of a field of flowers transforms it into beauty. Can I talk about texture here? I love the texture of Streetman wax (much like Beezy and Sugar & Spice) it has a velvety smooth feel and the perfect balance of hardness and softness. I love the way it looks and feels in the hands. It melts like a dream.

Glassine bags are my favorite. I love the semi-transparent look and satisfying crinkle.

Free Samples in:

Orange Berry Tester- A tester? Oh tease!!!! I tested it and it passed with flying colors. Now may I have more please? Sticky sweet blood oranges and deep burgundy berries. Like a sangria without the alcohol tang.

Lavender Herb Garden- Strong herbal lavender that I adore. Sticking my face in a fresh lavender bush.

Hodgepodge- Fruits and vanilla. Simple yet well done.

Vineyard- Not what you'd expect. Not grapey or winey. A tiny bit of that is present but it smells more like the actual leaves and wooden paneling of the barrels and slight earthy musk. It is light and perfumey yet fruity and woody. I really like it.

Sad face. I am going to miss Streetman bad. So many great vendors closing up shop. So many great people behind the businesses that will be missed too. Heather, if you ever happen to read this: you are amazing, you have a wonderful talent and I wish you nothing but the best.

Please don't forget to tune in tomorrow for a giveaway in celebration of The Redolent Mermaid's one year birthday!

My Pop-Pop turned 70 on the 15th, the family wanted to surprise him on Sunday by all meeting at his church then eating lunch on the grounds. Welcome Baptist Church has not seen my face in its pews for about 15 years. I have not held a Hymnal in my hands in a long time. How can something feel so familiar yet strange all at once? So old fashioned and yet vital? It will be a sad day indeed when all these books of music are obsolete.

That particular familial area of Florida where Welcome Baptist Church stands houses my maternal side of our lineage. I took Savanna to see where her great grandmother, Danna (my Mema), her great-great grandmother, Gladys (my Granny), and her great-great-great grandmother, Laura (Grandma Keene, who I had the pleasure of knowing, passed when I was 7 years old) all lie in the family plot. I explained how she is the 6th generation of first born daughters from all these women who had come before her.

It was a celebratory and grounding Sunday. And the moments that spontaneously happened, I imagine, will live on in Savanna's memory as being significant. What was your most recent moving experience? Dream? Thought? Memory?

Spring Break went by smoothly. A little too much "To Do" and not enough snuggles and fun but we did squeeze some in while we could. I am looking forward to Rosegirls opening now that it is close and the site is open for plotting. I do wish I could place a bigger order like last time, but it just isn't meant to be. I will however, be plotting a store haul next month, so that is something to look forward to as well.

I have a few outstanding wax orders that should arrive soon: Lasting Scent Candles, Rosegirls (Mini Melters x two), and Glitterati. How is your week coming along? Melt anything extra yummy? Waiting on any orders?

If you follow me on IG (TheRedolentMermaid or Julie Johnson), then you might have known I was going to post about this. It is almost the end of strawberry season here in central Florida (the Strawberry Festival is going on right now as I type). Strawberry fields were ripe for the picking. So Adam and I loaded up the girls after church and did just that for the bargain price of $0.50 per quart. So juicy and amazingly sweet.

Do you ever go to U-Picks? What are some of your favorite things to pick? We also love blueberry season, which usually falls around April.
