Ahhhh leaves! This Florida gal day dreams of driving north about 9 hours to soak in the fall foliage hues of umber, ochre and scarlet. As a sub-tropical climate, central Florida really does not have a whole lot of color changing species, a few here and there of course, but not enough to turn a head.
So my fall foliage mainly consists of dripping moss, evergreen boughs and palmetto fronds. The thunderstorms of hurricane season bring in cold fronts and the subtle nuances of a Florida fall are beginning to be felt. And yes, I feel it in my bones too.
"A Vagabond Song"
- by Bliss Carman
There is something in the autumn that
is native to my blood-
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and the purple and
the crimson keeping time.
The scarlet of the maples can shake me
like a cry
of bugles going by.
And my lonely spirit thrills
To see the frosty asters like a smoke
upon the hills.
There is something in October sets the
gypsy blood astir;
We must rise and follow her,
When from every hill of flame
She calls and calls each vagabond by
name.
I did scout out this leaf last year in North Carolina. One day I will make it for fall in the Smoky or Blue Ridge Mountains.
Of course you probably remember that I have burnt my Bath & Body Works Leaves candle. It was the regular edition from this year and I have been enjoying it very much.
I also melted my Sugar & Spice Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks tarts and very much loved them. The addition of extra cinnamon was just what I wanted. It threw strong in my bedroom, kitchen and living room.
How are the leaves in your part of the world? Do you enjoy any leafy type scents?
I love this post. I hope you don't mind me making one of these pictures the background for my phone. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind at all! Thank you! I hope you are doing well. Love you!
DeleteI couldn't imagine living in a place where the leaves don't change! I hope one day you get to go north to see the beautiful foliage! I missed fall in Alaska and Pennsylvania and didn't get to see too many changing leaves. Next year!!
ReplyDeleteI know. I am totally missing out on the display of color. I do get some pretty spectacular sunsets and beaches but I guess I can't have everything. Maybe next year will be the year for both of us <3
DeleteI'm all about that lovely poem and those dewy evergreen photos. When I saw the colorful leaf, I thought it was a tie-dyed effect at first!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I can lots of fall color but would still love to see autumn in the Blue Ridge or Great Smokies some day...
Thank you!! I worry my poetic leanings are only entertaining myself, but glad you like them too. Dew is definitely something we have in spades right now. Humid air. Rainy hurricane season. Water, water everywhere. I saw that leaf on the ground and had to hold it. Such a beautiful little thing.
DeleteYes!!! The apex of fall bounty. One day!
