Arcana Soaps: Sleepy Hallow

A couple of months ago I purchased this soap from The Soap Box Company, then tucked it away until fall beckoned. Well, fall came a couple of days early in this home. Usually, September 1st kicks off the season. Strangely, I found myself climbing the stairs and entering the sweltering attic to pull out the Rubbermaid bins, that hold the decorations that herald the arrival of autumn, two days earlier than scheduled. Thus, Sleepy Hallow came out of hiding.

Sleepy Hallow creates an ivory cream lather that is silky and emollient. After rinsing my skin feels soft and refreshed. The scent is a changeling that I have a hard time pining down. One moment I picture pumpkins and bonfire smoke, the next hints of sweet apples and dry leaves. Both impressions are are not bright and fresh, rather aged as if peering at the scents through a veil of cobwebs. It always remains a bit earthy and smokey. I enjoy it. It is as mysterious as Sleepy Hallow itself. My husband is liking it too. I caught him sniffing it in the shower.

The top looks like a thick swirl of decadent caramel. Yum! Happy to have this bar to bathe with to ring in the fall season. I have a feeling it will go fast.

So this here is my 100th post! Woohoo!!! I will probably skip a day or two during the week for a little while as I readjust to school and work. How is your September shaping up? I have some fun things to look forward to this month: frog gigging and a beast feast for my Daddy's birthday (jury is still out on how fun but I am trying to be a sport) the beasts to eat involve gator, frogs and dove, a crafty afternoon with my sisters making Mason jar pumpkins, another visit to the Oxford Exchange then a trip to see The Maze Runner, and possible orders from Sniff My Tarts, or Ten Digit, or Alamo Candelaria. Not sure yet.

  1. The packaging on this soap is gorgeous!! If this soap isn't the absolute epitome of fall, I don't know what is. I wish I could do CP soaps because there's so many beautiful ones out there but they all have an odd smell to my nose. Is it just me? Maybe I'll give CP a try again one of these days.

Sounds like you have a fun month coming up!! Frog gigging?! Do explain!! Have a great rest of your weekend Julie <3

    1. I enjoy Arcana's branding as well. There usually is a soapy undertone but I tend to associate it with cleanliness so I don't mind.
I will scrounge you up some slivers and see if I can find one you might like.

Frog gigging: taking long spears at night and shining bright lights in swampy areas to "stun" the frogs while stabbing them with said spear. Very southern and cave like. Great fun for the locals. This citified country girl prefers evenings under a quilt with books but I will trot along. We eat the legs after seasoning and battering and frying. They are ok. Hope you have a great weekend too Jacqui!! <3

    2. Oh Julie that is so sweet of you, thank you <3 I think the last CP soaps I ordered were from Alchemic Muse a few years back. Maybe this time around I'll find something I enjoy. I wonder if Beezy still makes soaps.

Frog gigging definitely sounds like some southern fun! I've never had frog legs before, but I've heard the old saying that they taste like chicken lol. Up here in the suburban midwest, the most local we ever get with our game is deer meat, sometimes phesant. Meh.

    3. I have not seen soaps from Beezy in a while. You might like the hot process soaps better. We eat deer at Thanksgiving each year but I have never had pheasant. Sounds like a kingly dish.

  2. You're gonna eat a sweet, peaceful DOVE???? Ugh. I am sooo not a foodie, not adventurous in any way. I'm not sure I even want to know what frog gigging is. lol

Season 2 of Sleepy Hollow starts this month. =)

Nothing overly exciting planned here for September, but that soap sure does look and sound nice!

    1. I won't but my husband and children love to eat dove. I am not a fan of the gaminess and random buck shot that crack my teeth. Don't read above if you care to remain ignorant of frog gigging.

I must watch Sleepy Hallow!!! I swear I am always two years behind on all the best shows.

  3. Since this one was from last year I was worried about first impressions, being your first Arcana order so I'm glad it's still good. Love this one also! I imagine there will be others coming to TSBC.

  4. Very cool pictures --I kept thinking of the hunger games as I was admiring them. They look like they're on fire.
