Winter has come to Florida. It is freezing cold and there is even talk of snow flurries in Tampa Bay. Crazy. But the cold weather is not keeping me away from the out of doors. Hiking, bird watching and bonfires have been the order of the day all weekend long.

I don't know if you remember but a few years ago I went into the Atlantic Ocean with my camera and my 200mm zoon lens was obliterated in the waves. Now that I am into my wee birds I am jonesing to buy a new one. Luckily they are only around $100 to $150 for a refurbished one online. I think I will save up for one soon. Then I can bombard you with birds.

Another exciting prospect is getting a hair cut soon. Would it shock you to know I haven't had a haircut in about 2 years? And frankly, the only reason I am even getting one now is that Adam won me one in a golf tournament.

We still have our Christmas tree to burn, our play set to burn that Irma knocked down and a few cold nights ahead.

How are you keeping warm?

  1. Here in Wisconsin, I'm *not* keeping warm. Good lord, this subzero trend can move on any time now!

I'd wondered why we weren't seeing bird pics yet. lol Looking forward to them. Maybe I'll have to learn how to use my fancy camera and take pics of Wisconsin birds for you. :)

    1. I cannot even begin to fathom the extreme cold you are enduring right now. You should get a Shackleton badge of honor or something. The weather is totally whack.

I scare the birds away when I get too close and my current lens is in no way a zoom lens. But I will remedy that. I decided to have a post that chronicles all the birds I see this year. So far I have more than half a dozen identified and listed. I want to try and take a photo of each one. I would love to see your birds!!! So far no finches have arrived to taste of my sock feeder. And no hummingbirds. I might move that one closer to the house.

    2. I was so excited when I saw my first hummingbird at the feeder. I'd never believed that they were really around this area, but sure enough, they showed up. We also had flowers around the yard though, so they were probably already coming here and I'd just never paid attention.

    3. The flowers. That is it. Going to plant some once this crazy freeze has past us. Thanks!!

  2. Can't tell if your handsome gnome (pardon, I forgot the fella's name) is peeking into your basket or keeping watch so fairies don't whisk them away. Your friend Abby has excellent taste as I have ordered and tried some of the same, I really enjoyed Bento's Leaves and Barrett's snoozy, although that one was more pepperminty than I hoped. Although it's your right up your scent street. I'm interested in your thoughts on that one.

That crystalline droplets photo is beautiful and somehow melancholy to me. Oh, I bet you have some exotic birds in Fla, if you ever spot an owl in the wild (nightvision? I don't know camera attachments) please share:)

    1. I love it! Norbert is doing both. He is a curious old chap but also wary of those impish fae folk. They tug his beard when he's sleeping and it makes him a little crotchety. Abby DOES have great taste. She was a top notch wax blogger and I spent many an hour pouring over her reviews before I ever blogged. More pepperminty is definitely a positive thing for my arctic loving nose. I am excited to melt my first ever Barrett's. I will be happy to review it.

It was a very cold moment very early in the morning and ideal for melancholy thoughts. It was a quiet and happy moment when it was shot but that was because I was reunited with an old friend and we were walking the lane of her new home.

We do have some cool birds in Florida. One of my favorites to spot is the Roseate Spoonbill. Such a cool pink bird. I like the Swallowtail Kites too. I have heard owls many a time but alas, I have yet to spy one out in the wild with my naked eye. Adam does have night vision goggles and I should sneak about the woods behind our house to see who is "whoooo"ing all night.

By the way! Totally random. But I loved the Book Beau you gave me so much that I went ahead and picked up two more sizes on sale and I won a 25% off code spinning their wheel. So I made out like a bandit. Thank you Jay!

  3. Wow, that is a sweet captured moment then. Get outta here! How awesome Julie? When I bought my first beaus at Bookcon, Benita had an actual spinning wheel and I won a free beau! I need to get an XL size one of these days, I like the recent glasses print, very kitschy!

    1. That is cool! I liked the label on the one you won. It is much more cute and handmade looking. This one you can tell they are successful now and have things made. But I am totally digging it! I need to cobble a post together. Sign up for their newsletter and spin the wheel! I will be cheering for a big discount for you! BIG DISCOUNT NO WHAMMIES!

  4. I love the pictures! Do you like your haircut? I sometimes go a year or until my hairs are looking pretty witchy...

    1. Thank you! I have not set an appointment yet but I am thinking February. My girls need their locks trimmed too as it has been years as well. Witchy hairs are fun! As long as they aren't on the chin (which mine are pretty often). But I do still need to at least get something done. I would love some color too but nothing too crazy. I try to keep it low maintenance... you know... since I only go once every few years. LOL!
