Tauer: Lonesome Rider

This newest addition to Tauer Perfumes was generously offered by Andy in a sample format in the beginning of February at a name-your-own-price honor system. The shipping was $4 and I purchased mine for $8 on top of that. He did mention only one knucklehead who bought 50 samples for $10 or some such nonsense. Unfortunately, rotten apples and all that. I believe he honored it, but back to the new scent... Lonesome Rider. It feature notes of bergamot, grapefruit, pepper, clove, rose, leather, castoreum, vetiver, sandalwood and ambergris. His postcard states that this scent was build upon the foundation of his previous scent a decade ago, Orris.

Iris, incense and leather consume my senses when I wear this. Lonesome Rider rests lightly as a veil upon the skin, emanating serenity as from a joss stick. The leather, newly created and lightly tanned, provides the delicate iris stalks with a firm backbone and warmth in response to their sometimes chilly tone. The incense smokes the scent with woods and pairs beautifully with the vetiver. Tranquility settles around my shoulders in a light shawl when I wear this fragrance. Images of peasant girls in soft leather shoes carrying baskets of wildflowers and feral mushrooms whose laughter and hair holds scents of the fields occupy my thoughts. The sun warms them, the breezes cool them.

I have fallen in love with this floral leather and will be choosing it for an Explorer Set. Did you take advantage of this generous offer from Andy? I posted about it on my Facebook page. Please "like" The Redolent Mermaid on Facebook to stay abreast of any offers I come across. If you ever wish to sample Tauer he does sell samples and a Discovery Kit for very fair prices.

  1. Hi - I loved your review. I've just received my sample in the post so am smelling it as we speak and am liking it so far - very leathery on me with some grassy smears. The Explorer Set is fabulous - the only tricky thing is what to pick. Andy is very customer focussed in what he offers. PS I will be sending your supplies next week. Sorry it's taking me a while to sort through everything!

    1. Hello! Thank you Megan! Too funny that you got yours today. I definitely see the grass and leather too. Your description of it on IG is perfect. You are exactly right. I am having a hard time narrowing it down, but LaDdM, PHI, Incense Rose, Noontide Petals, and E'pices are all in the running with Lonesome Rider.

No worries or rush! I am happy we swapped :-) Yours is en route and I wish I was tagging along with it.

  2. I was afraid of ordering this sample because I wasn't sure what to pay for it. I didn't want to be that person that underpaid for what they got. Bummer that some people took ill advantage of Andy's generosity.

This sounds surprisingly good, thanks to my recent nose swap. I'd fallen out of love with florals a couple years ago but now find myself really loving the nuances of almost every floral scent I've come across.

    1. He still has it for sale! At your own price. He sells single samples for $5 so I used that as my guide. You should try this scent! It is beautiful. I think you would like the grassy Iris in this. The leather is strong though. Do you like leather?
