Ebb & Flow: March

The highs and lows of the month.

Perfume:
Wylde Ivy Day of the Sugar Skull

Perfume Oil:
Nocturne Alchemy Eternal Ankh Anniversary, alone and layered with some of the NA dinos and studio limiteds

Skincare:
Hanaka Hyaluronic Acid Sleeping Pack EX

Haircare:
Alchemic Muse Hair Mist, I have been wanting to get away with putting heavy product in my hair. I usually slather my hair in LA Looks gel but I am liking the softer curls I get from simply spritzing some of this mist in my hair when it is wet and letting it air dry overnight.

Night Time Ritual:
Cosmic Cleanse ScentSations Headache B Gone balm on my temples for relaxation.

Wax Tart:
Handmade in Florida Enchanted Woods, melted for three days straight and smelled amazing.

Candle:
Jean-Michel Basquat

Bath Time Ritual:
Nocturne Alchemy Bath Oil in Pink Eternal Ankh

Eating:
Ice cream and radishes, but not at the same time.

Drinking:
Club soda with lime

Watching:
Various mythology and folklore and fairy shows and documentaries on BBC and Netflix. Myths and Monsters on Netflix has been interesting. Also watching Penny Dreadful. Not sure how I feel about it.

Listening:
Enya

Reading:
Flitting between Watership Down by Richard Adams and Men Explain Things To Me by Rebecca Solnit

Dreading:
Scheduling a trip to the dentist. The stress of standardized testing season.

Awaiting:
A day at the beach. I can feel one approaching soon.

Hit:
Sixteen92 Super Natural Hair Serum in Baker Street and Hellebore

Miss:
Dr. Brandt Magnetight Magnet Mask, left my skin feeling oily. Too much gimmick.

Low:
A general malaise waxes and wanes.

High:
Harvesting the radishes from the garden. Watching the wild flowers I planted grow in abundance. Reading on the couch with coffee and scampering squirrels and flitting birds moving about just outside the window. Small things but they matter.

How was your March? Anything in particular going on? The good, the bad or the smelly?

  1. Radishes with ice cream might be an acquired taste, but have you tried radishes with a tiny dollop of butter? Yum!

March went by in a flash. We've had an astounding variety of weather, and allergies are making everyone red-eyed and sneezy. Work has been nuts but should calm down a bit over the next few weeks.

On the plus side, I read a few middle grade books that I enjoyed: Nightbird by Alice Hoffman and A Dash of Trouble by Anna Meriano, both witch- and baking-themed, but in very different ways. I also read Running out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix, a suspenseful page turner about a girl who thinks she's living in 1840's Indiana but it's actually a living history museum in the 1990s.

Haven't watched a lot of tv lately, but I did stumble across The Terror, a "what might have happened" series about a real-life British expedition in search of the Northwest Passage. The excellent actor who plays Blackjack/Frank from Outlander is in it. Watched the first two eps and can't wait for the next one. Extremely creepy!

    1. With butter?!?! Fresh or cooked? I am definitely intrigued now! We only have one lone radish left in the garden. We have, well... I have, eaten them all.

Your haywire weather sounds much like ours. Cold one minute, blazing hot the next day. Rainy or bone dry. Pollen exploding everywhere. Mostly oak. Thankfully I think it is waning a bit.

Nightbird!! I loved that book! I wanted to try and make the Pink Apple Pie on the back but I gave the book away before I remembered about the recipe. I really enjoy Alice Hoffman's books. The Green Witch/Green Angle/Green Heart stories are short but powerful. I will check out A Dash of Trouble. Running Out of Time sounds amazing too. Thanks for telling me about them!

Ooooo.... I will write this series down. It sounds a little HP Lovecraft-ish. Like the Mountains of Madness? I watched the first episode of Outlander since it was free but I have not watched any other episodes. I am afraid I will loose my ability to visualize Jamie. And I don't want that to happen. LOL!

  2. Just dab a little soft butter on a raw radish. Some people like to sprinkle salt on it too but I just like the butter :)

I have to check out Alice Hoffman's other YA books. I think my library has the second but not the first one, which is annoying!

Yes, The Terror is very Lovecraftian so far. Ridley Scott is the exec producer, and apparently it has been in the works for a while.
