Ebb & Flow: November 2018

The highs and lows of the month.

Perfume:
Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille

Perfume Oil:
Sixteen92 Dancing in the Snow

Soap:
Paintbox Soap Works Sisterhood of the Moon

Bubble Bath:
Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Comfort: Vanilla & Patchouli

Lotion Bar:
Cosmic Cleanse Scentsation No 3rd Wheel

Skin Care:
Blood Moon Botanica Moon Dew

Lip Balm:
Blood Moon Botanica Bourbon Vanilla

Candle:
Bath & Body Works Fresh Balsam

Wax:
Beezy Apple Clove Butter

Jewelry:
Dida Metals crescent moon and star stamp necklace

Eating:
A strange blend of shredded cole slaw mix, shredded carrots and edamame beans dressed with olive oil, apple cider vinegar and orange juice or apple cider depending on what is in the fridge and a pinch of salt. It is like a refreshing salad without worrying about lettuce.

Drinking:
Club soda with a twist of lime. Coffee with a pump of cinnamon brown sugar syrup and creamer.

Reading:
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (large fully illustrated edition)

Watching:
I finished Sabrina on Netflix,  I started Merlin on Netflix and I am also watching Fairytale anime with the girls on Netflix. Plus Birchwood Fireplace and Harry Potter Christmas ASMR Room videos.

Listening:
Christmas songs! Yep. Midnight Syndicate, The Carpenters, Mickey's Christmas Around the World and whatever is playing on the radio.

Baking:
Rosemary Bread from this recipe here.

Dreading:
Getting out of the steamy hot bath tub and into the freezing cold bedroom. Brrrr!

Awaiting:
Christmas break! Woot! Two weeks to hang with my family and celebrate all the good and yummy things.

Hit:
Blood Moon Botanica Pitch Pine Salve- it stinks but it works. It has cleared up many irritations and skin conditions for me. But it does smell a little fecal. Don't let that stop you if you need an effective salve though.

Miss:
Handcrafted Honey Bee Rosemary Mint deodorant- it could be just me but it kept giving me a red, raised irritated rash on my pits. Hence, the Pitch Pine Salve. I couldn't understand if the deodorant was it but after much trial and error it was.

Low:
Nothing terrible. Some bumps here and there but overall November has been a steady month. The stress will ebb and flow like usual.

High:
Thanksgiving food and family, a trip to The Barn with mom and Lindsey, some sister time with Darby, family time in Orlando with Adam and the girls at Universal and being excited for Christmas to come.

How was your November? What are you loving this month? What are you dreading? Any good shows?

  1. That bread recipe looks amazing! WOW. It sounds like it was a good month. I always enjoy this series you do. I just finished "Dark" on Netflix and thought it was awesome. It was one of the only shows I've ever seen where I could not predict anything that was coming! It was also beautifully shot - but, as the name suggests, very dark. The holidays are kind of a blur to me right now because I've been so busy with work, and then preparing to move. But I did cook a huge Thanksgiving that we enjoyed, and hopefully our new home will close Dec 21st (the Solstice!), so that seems like a great Christmas present! Keeping everything crossed for luck on that. Happy December and Christmas and winter holidays to you and yours, beautiful Julie! <3

    1. It was very easy and I enjoyed that I could make the dough ahead of time and keep it chilled until I needed to bake it. Thank you for recommending Dark. I just started it and it is pretty intense. I love the feel of it though. Almost like a grown up version of Stranger Things? Something mysterious afoot. Hope work is kind to you while you prepare for the move. Your home is looking beautiful. I know you will make it a right proper nest. I enjoyed following along on your Martha Stewart Thanksgiving cooking. Everything looked delicious! And how perfect that you are closing on the Winter Solstice. What a celebration!! Thank you for your friendship! I hope you have a wonderful December, a smooth move-in and a beautiful holiday season. <3

  2. I need to dig out my decant of Un Bois Vanille--haven't worn that in way too long. Have been burning the B&BW Vanilla and Patch candle quite frequently lately!

    1. I haven't worn mine in a year or so either. I missed it. I tried to wear Chergui to school and my teacher assistant mentioned it smelling like baby's breath in the hallway and then one of my students said something smelled like it was burning when I was helping edit her work. Oh boy! I guess no more Chergui at work. Thank you for mentioning the BBW Vanilla and Patchouli candle. You are the reason I grabbed one during the candle sale. I cannot wait to try it out. Hope you have a good December, Kate! <3

  3. Ouchie. :( I get the same reaction to deodorant when the essential oil concentration is too high. I have never had a problem with natural perfume but maybe armpits are more sensitive. I am glad you found something that works, usually I wait it out and wear nothing or use one of Moona's body powders when it has started to calm down.

Speaking of Britton, I am using the coconut silk butter you sent me as a face cream for the winter, fingers crossed it returns. I still want to try her deodorant oil, I assume I would not react to it being in oil format since it would be absorbed rather than stay sitting on top of the skin.

    1. Maybe it was the essential oils... because I like the way other scents from that brand work. Hm.

So happy you are loving the body silk. It really is a treat. I hope she makes them again soon too. I am fresh out but using her oils. And yes, her deodorant oil is very nice. I find it really only controls odors for a shorter time period on my body so I tend to wear it on the weekends or before bed. I don't want to make my students suffer when I work so close in proximity. It does absorb nicely and smells amazing. Hope you have a nice December and your move goes well. <3
