Melting Basket 143: First Fall Basket of the Year

Wax from the last basket I would happily buy and melt again: Handmade in Florida  Lavender Ice, CFTKR FPS, Strawberry Cotton Candy Sugar Cookie, Grapefruit and Mint, Tonka and Vetiver and Silver Birch and Vetiver.

The Bathing Garden Cardamom Apple Pie
The Bathing Garden Fantasy Punch
Beezy Country Bumpkin
Beezy Apple Clove Butter
Ten Digit Creations Witches Brew/Patchouli/Cabin in the Smokies
CFTKR Apple N Spice
CFTKR Noels of Autumn
CFTKR Country Gift Shop
CFTKR Nights of Autumn

I did end up melting a few of these prematurely waiting on the hurricane and all. Savanna got so excited to smell apple cinnamon in the house. Country Gift Shop is amazingly strong and wonderful as well as Cardamom Apple Pie. I am looking forward to melting the TDC loaf and the Nights of Autumn. I recently placed a tidy TDC order. There I go ordering wax again. <3

The hurricane passed us by a thin margin and I am ever so thankful about that. Dorian was a beast and many only a couple hundred miles from me are devastated with destruction. Today Orange County schools are back up and running so the girls and I head back to our works. I wish I could say the days off were a relaxing holiday extended weekend but that under current of anxiety that runs through the hurricane wait is always intense.

I did get a lot of reading done. I tried to go outside as often as I could since the heat wasn't blazing and the sky often overcast.

It was a weekend of books for sure though. Friday my friend Tricia and I attended a romance authors social and I got to listen to Solani Dev talk about why she writes. It was very inspiring. We met about half a dozen authors and left with a few autographed books. I also applied for my Orange County Library System card.

Saturday Savanna, Scarlette and I checked out The Book Rack which is a used book store in Ocoee. It was packed to the gills with books and Savanna left with about a dozen Dean Koontz and a few Michael Crichton. I made Scarlette pick one out. I left with about four. Some were a quarter and one was to fulfill the reading prompt about having the same initials.

Yesterday I got a nice fat delivery from the Book Outlet and Thrift Books. I also pre-ordered the new Maggie Stiefvater that is releasing in November. In between all that I finished Dean Koontz's Phantoms and began The Witches: Suspicion, Betrayal and Hysteria in 1692 Salem by Stacy Schiff. So books were definitely my medication of choice.

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the plants that are growing in my yard right now. The camphor thicket runs along the back edge of our yard. My friend Nancy named her new home not too long ago and I am charmed by the idea of naming my house now. I am not quite sure what it would be but I do like the idea of it having a nod to either the camphor trees in the back yard, the abundant oaks or the four magnolia trees I have on the side. But I am leaning towards the camphors or oaks since they were here before the house was built. What do you think: Camphor Cottage, Southern Oak Rambler, Camphorwood House, Live Oak Homestead? Feel free to chime in!

How is your September unfurling? Have you decorated for fall yet? I have not and I think I need to.

  1. Yes, you need to decorate. That beautiful new home needs fall decor!!! I have my very few 'early fall' decorations out. That's all non-pumpkin stuff, like leaves and apples and such. My pumpkin decorations won't come out till October, with the Halloween stuff. I am cheating at the moment though, and melting Pumpkin Spice Latte wax I found at Walmart.

I have no house name suggestions but of the ones you mentioned I like Camphorwood House best.

    1. I DO!!! Gah. I am so tired and unmotivated lately. I think I will make myself do it this coming weekend. Sunday probably. I think partially what holds me back is that my regular home is not decorated how I want yet and I still have crap here and there that needs to be taken care of. It freaks me out a little to add to that but I KNOW it would make me happy to have it out and celebrating even if it is just a little.

Ooooooo!!! Pumpkins in September!!! You a rebel!! I have melted through this basket so fast. I am ready to make a new one.

Thank you! Camphorwood House will be in the top running. <3

  2. I'm so relieved that Dorian left you alone! What a relief.

I love the idea of naming your house (clearly!) :) Of the four you propose, I love them all. Camphor Cottage - this one is probably my favorite! I love the alliteration of it. Camphorwood House, though, is more majestic! Any of the four will be perfect! <3 I still haven't gotten a sign for ours yet, but I have it on my list and I just need to find the right style and save up some $. Will you get a sign for your home's name?

    1. Thank you! Met too. The school I work at is organizing some relief for the Bahamas and I am hoping the girls and I can gather some stuff and money to send.

I am leaning towards the Camphor ones too. Mainly because they dominate the backyard. And I am a sucker for camphorous scents. I definitely would like to get a sign. <3 But like you, that won't come for a little bit yet. I still need to grab some rugs, couches, chairs, light fixtures... heck. A lot! But we are here for the long haul so no rush. <3 Hope your school year is going well.

    2. Thank you! I feel like so far this semester, I've got a handle on things. I'm sure that now that I've said that "out loud," it will all collapse, lol.

The Bahamas situation - I don't even know what to say. It's so upsetting and horrific. I need to do something to help, too, but I'm not sure what yet.

  3. So glad the hurricane seemed to pass you by. Weirdly enough, the east coast of Canada got hit HARD this past weekend. Pretty well all of Newfoundland was without power for the weekend and the beginning of this week. We even got some blowback here in the form of a few insane storms. I don't even want to talk about how aggravated I am that we had to cancel our Florida holiday, but I'm ultimately glad we weren't there, caught up in unpleasant weather, just getting in the way. Or at least that's how I'm trying to look at it. :) It's super cute that your daughter has such sweet scent memories. That's such a powerful one, too - she'll always think "Fall at home" when she smells those kind of scents. :)

    1. I bet it was remnants of Dorian that cycled up there. It was a seriously powerful storm. Are you ok? You didn't have any damage did you? I would hate for that after all your renovation trials already. I am so sorry you had to cancel but it was definitely for the best. Despite all the tech the meteorologists still don't have a handle on predicting these things (not that I expect them to) and it is better to stay home and safe. When do your passes run out? I love that she is excited to have these smells too. Hoping to make them pleasant associations.

  4. No damage at all, thankfully, though we had a few days of some pretty wicked storms. And boo, our passes have already run out - ran 'em down at the very beginning of the month. I shouldn't gripe too much, as we definitely got our money's worth out of them - 21 in-park days alone, crazy buggers that we are. :)

  5. Reading!!!! It will be the best thing about this year for me, hands down. I've read and listened to a ton, well, for me. Can't wait to see how our challenge wraps up! Author events are so exciting, you'd think I'd have more access working in a library, but we're such a small market we cant afford the speaker fees.
I do enjoy the plants around your yard<3 If you haven't decided on a name, may I suggest whatever you choose contains 'The' preceding it. As in, 'The Burrow' its somehow cozier.
I'm gonna go ahead and blame you for re-kindling my thrifting bug, it had gotten nearly out of control the last 3 months, but I've reigned it in. It's hard to deny oneself books, though, ya know?

    1. Yes!! Thank you for doing the reading challenge with me. I am game for another if you want to. Just let me know.

Thanks! Some are dying since we have had a bit of a drought lately but I am trying to keep them alive without using up too much water. I think I will look into some drought friendly plants and more native species.

You are totally right. "The" definitely needs to go in front. I want to get a sign made up. I am leaning towards The Camphor Cottage or The Camphorwood Cottage.

A few thrifted books are worth having. I love the beautiful books you have featured. <3
