Haus of Gloi: Coconut #3 Perfume Oil

Haus of Gloi released three exclusive coconut perfume oils during their summer product launch. These perfume oils were created using an expensive pure coconut oil and came in three formulations: Coconut (a pure coconut fragrance using coconut CO2 extraction with some added benzoin), Coconut #2 (a lighter and brighter version of coconut with added frankincense, elimi, benzoin and vanilla) and  Coconut #3 (a darker flanker with added vetiver and labdanum). I obviously picked #3, because anything with labdanum needs to be mine. These 5 ml bottles ran $30 each and are vegan.

In the bottle this fragrance holds its secrets tight. Once on the skin they whisper forth tales of dank briny holds in the bellies of schooners, galleys stocked with coconut flesh gathered from tropical isles and the ancient wood crates they call home. Dark, dry, salty.

This may be a difficult scent for some to wear, but it is undeniably an experience. I see myself layering this with vanilla based perfumes, gardenias and At The Beach 1966 to give them more depth and complexity. If I feel a little salty I will wear it as is.

I think I may be coming around to these perfume oils. The more I try them, the more I like them. Kind of like sushi. Or exercise. Or Leonard Cohen.

  1. Coconut is one of my favorite scents to wear. I would highly recommend you to check out possets. It is another small indy perfumery. Here are a couple of my favorite scents.

Cri de Coeur (Cry of the Heart) - "This fragrance is a real stunner, a true Posset with large lashings of Vanilla, nougat, coconut, sweet musk, tobacco flower, swirling cotton, a drop of nag champa, chypre, black musk and sugar cane. There is the essence of a very good dragon's blood in it, a small amount of lime, and lime blossom. This is quite a complex beauty. Very sweet without being totally foody, long lasting and strong.

Cri de Coeur was originally created as a fragrance to benefit the victims of the Haitian earthquake and was the most popular Posset in 2010."

Arcturus - "Arc to Arcturus is a common saying in the astrological world. In this case Arcturus is a blend of the blackest of all vanillas in a swirl in dead space. It's a beautiful dark foodie blend which is a true hybrid between the wearable vanillas and those which you just wish to put your tongue on. Madagascar, two Mexican vanilla, and a dry and almost earthy Tahitian vanilla blend together to make a superb concoction for seduction. Intensely sophisticated and very up to date."

A Haiku-Fangping Gauze Screen - Mimicking the divine and elusive fragrances which tickle your mind in the sill of a perfect evening, an osmanthus-like sugary note marries with a bit of peach and rhubarb and a drop of lime. There is a feel to this of silver (the Silver fragrances from Possets). Quite romantic, lightly foody but in a come-hither way..on a moonlit night.

    1. Jackie! These sound scrumptious! I will most certainly check them out. Cry of the Heart really calls out to me. Very generous they support charity too. Thank you! How have you been?

    2. I love supporting Fabienne (the owner of Possets) She is incredibility friendly and generous. Her forums are a great place to get advice and reviews for a particular scent.

I'm doing fantastic! Thanks for asking.

  2. I really wanted to order these, but no $ at the time. :/ They sounded wonderful; thanks for your review and pics! P.S. Have you ever heard of a site called and it's Bath & Body discussion board? That's where I learned nearly everything I know about products and etailers. If you haven't checked it out, you should! I think you would have a lot to contribute to the discussions and the community is really good about alerting everyone to sales! It's kind of like Fight Club (no one talks about it) so I guess I'm breaking the cardinal rule, lol! I'm really enjoying your blog and IG account; thanks for all you do!

    1. I understand that Amanda! That is how I am with all these wonderful summer releases from indie bath companies, so much yummies and a limited budget. :-) thank you for the heads up Amanda! I love outlets for chatting smell goods! I am enjoying your IG account too! You are inspiring me to step up my wardrobe game. Too many yoga pants and tee shirts. I need to branch out! Lol!
