Olfactif Artisan Perfume Subscription: June

Olfactif does it again. The third box and I am still in love. This month the theme was The Art and Olfaction Awards 2015. All three of the perfumes in this month's box were winners in this international fragrance competition that is judged blind.

Black Pepper & Sandalwood by Acca Kappa- Notes Include: Bergamot, elemi, artemisia, saffron, cloves, nutmeg, balsam fir, damask rose, black pepper, cinnamon, agarwood, patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood, cedar, black musk.
Darkly spiced woods immediately enthralls me. Clove, nutmeg and saffron are aged, smokey and sweetened with rose petals. Resinous evergreens sturdy and comforting provide a beautiful foundation for these mysteriously dark yet inviting spices. Primitive holiday wishes that dries down to an intimate midnight snuggle embraced with ebony woods and musk. Full bottle (100 ml- EDP) is $100.

Eau de Celeri by Monsillage- Note Include: Coriander leaf, galbanum, grass, bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, flower buds, vetiver, patchouli, cedar.
Sitting cross legged in a park, summer heat. Picking slender shoots of tender verdant blades and ripping them, green dew on fingers. Placing a single grass leaf between thumb knuckles and blowing- whistling green aromas into the air, under your nose, between your lips. Top notes of childhood tumbling in the grass like puppies, drydown composed of nostalgia softened by time. Full bottle (100 ml- EDT) is $95.

Woodcut by Olympic Orchids- Notes Include: Cedar, pine, oak, tolu balsam, olibanum, caramel, burnt sugar, vanilla.
Green needles, sticky sap, dry heartwood, then smoke. Before the fire burns acrid it turns sweet with always the heartwood present. It reminds me of countless years of my childhood picking out the perfect Christmas tree, then the ritual of sawing off the bottom part to make sure it is perfectly level and the lower branches are trimmed. Candy dangling from my lips from a holiday bowl, minute wood shavings swirling like snowflakes in the night sky, illuminated by strands of bare bulbs, and always the fragrance of the prefect Christmas tree. Full bottle (30 ml- pure parfum) is $65.

What a wonderful collection of scents. All can be worn by both men and women with beautiful results. If I had to pick one to buy a full bottle of it would be Black Pepper & Sandalwood. I would love Woodcut, but my husband was not enjoying it on me (for shame!). Eau de Celeri is a gorgeous green that showcases grass and vetiver but the siren song of the holidays that Black Pepper & Sandalwood conjures up is hard for me to resist. What can I say, I love my woods and spices.

I did, in fact purchase my first full bottle of perfume from Olfactif using my $18 monthly discount. More details to come! Do any of these fragrances stand out to you? Which one would you most like to sniff?

  1. I've been a subscriber for over a year now and even when I don't love the scents, I love the subscription. This was one of the best they've done! Eau de Celeri is the one I'll probably break down and buy this month.

    1. Hi Pegi! A year long subscriber tells me a great deal! I have no plans on canceling anytime myself. The scents have brought me so much enjoyment. This month really was full of gems. I can see why you would pick Eau de Celeri, it really is lovely. Such a verdant dream. I can see myself buying it too. Have you used your discount yet in purchasing a full bottle in the year you have been subscribing? The program is very nice.

    1. Kate! I am loving sniffing them! So many treasures out there. Black Pepper & Sandalwood is very much a snuggly wintertime scent. In love. I do want to explore Olympic Orchids some more too. She has samples on her site for $3.

  3. Julie, I agree 100% with your review. Out of any subscription box series I've tried, Olfactif consistently offers top-notch products at a very reasonable price. The Black Pepper/Sandalwood fragrance is unique and a personal favorite. The initial application opens to a big, boomy, peppery note that's unmistakably masculine. The dry down, however, is a warm, deeply sexy perfume. All three of the June fragrances are great but this is the one I'd ultimately break down and buy. Thank you again for introducing me to this series!!

    1. Hi Kevin! I was hoping you would tell me more about your thoughts on this month's box! I agree totally about the Black Pepper & Sandalwood explosion of spice! So mesmerizing! Your description is dead on. All three really are well done works of art. I will be a sad mama when I use them all up. Thank you for taking a chance and subscribing! It is enjoyable having someone to compare notes with!

    1. Oh Matt. If my pocketbook wouldn't protest, I would. In fact, I may anyway given enough time and budgeting. These three fragrances are all so evocative for me and must be for you too. I have to tell you that your photographs are stunning. I could drool over your coffee and pie photos all day. You have a beautiful talent. If you had to pick only one fragrance from this box what would it be? Evil, I know. ;-)
