SmellySmell Delights: Tealights

SmellySmell Delights offered to send me a free sample via InstaGram after chatting back and forth a bit. I was most interested in smelling Violets Are Blue. She sent that along with several other tea lights.

Violets are Blue: Burned excellent, cast a light sugared violet scent around the room and lasted about 5 hours (as did the rest I burned).

Caribbean Teakwood: I cut this up and melted in the bathroom warmer. This had to be about 1/2 an ounce or less, but had a nice medium throw and lasted about two days which is average for in that warmer and space. The scent of palm tree dabbled shoreline floated about the air.

Black Raspberry Vanilla: Dark juicy blackberries with no perfume hint.

Egyptian Amber: More light, golden and clean than a typical amber.

Blue Sugar: Blue Sugar is the men's cologne counterpart to the cotton candy sweet Pink Sugar. Blue Sugar is not a favorite of mine due to the strength of the licorice (anise) and coriander (soapy cilantro) combined.

Be Enchanted: Just like the Bath & Body Works version. A perky fruity floral.

These tealights burned nicely but the throw was hard to tell on some of them since I was burning one at a time in my bedroom to get a feel for them. Normally when I burn tealights, I burn clusters of them to get a good throw. In hindsight I would have been better off melting them like I did Caribbean Teakwood. This set of tea lights retails for $6.50 on Etsy.

I enjoyed the scents and would try out her clamshells ($3.00) in the future. Especially in Violets Are Blue for springtime.

Who are some of your favorite Etsy wax vendors? Do you burn scented tealights?

  1. I used to love browsing Etsy and placing small orders from 'unknown' wax vendors. I haven't done that in a long looong time. I should start again. I found Country Home Scents, and Scent Appeal on Etsy, loved them both while they were around.

I've been thinking about getting into scented tea lights for a while now but haven't really done anything about it. I might have to finally give it a try.

    1. Scent Appeal! I enjoyed her wax too. She had a Beer Wench that smelled like my college days.

It's funny because normally I am a Yankee tea light girl like no one's business, but if I love vendor wax so much why not try out some vendor tea lights too? I love my candle holders and they are begging for more use. I hope you try some Etsy tea lights soon and give us the down low. :-D

  2. How fun to get social media offers, congrats. <3

I ordered tea lights from Witch City Wicks. I liked Oakmoss Amber I believe, some of the more popular scents were just okay. It was a few years ago and I think I was burning them one at a time, often they didn't make a big impression as singles.

    1. Since you mentioned cutting up one of these, does the popularity of tarts have to do with it being a better use of wax when there is a limited amount of it? I'm sure there are thoughts online about tarts vs candles for efficiency.

    2. Oakmoss and amber are lovely. I agree, one tea light does not offer much throw but a few around a space does smell nice and looks pretty.

I could smell the one I put in the bathroom warmer much easier than when it was burned. That is an interesting idea Jean! I should do some comparisons. How do you like Witch City Wicks? Have you got your candle yet??

    3. I got it! Cold it smells like cinnamon with a hint of anise in the background but it is much lighter than a Yankee or the tarts that Wal-Mart has, not sure why it isn't stronger, maybe the owner has a sensitive sniffer. In my first order I got some votives and a jar candle with the tea lights, a few were nice but having mainly bought from Yankee prior to that I was expecting a stronger scent. I'll let you know my thoughts on this one when I burn it.
