L'Artisan Candle: The' et pain d'epices

I finally put a match to my L'Artisan candle that I purchased last year during their Winter Sale. The scent is The' Et Pain D'Epices: Smokey tea, crystallized orange, spices, honey, gingerbread, roaring fire. This is the full size 175g or 6.2 ounce size. I bought it for $35, which was half off.

I burned this in my bedroom on my nightstand beside my bed. At first the throw was pretty poor, like for 3-4 hours. I waited until it pooled nicely (which it did) then blew it out, pretty bummed. I lit it again the next night and all of a sudden I could smell it. Not sure what was going on there, but I was excited! While reading Madame Bovary (try not to look to deep into that) I caught tendrils of embers, cardamom, pomanders and whiskey rubbed leather slipping into my nose and consciousness.

Would I pay $70 for this candle? No. Would I pay $35 to buy it again? Probably. It smells delightful and unlike anything I have found in the mall.

Have you tried anything from the L'Artisan house? Have you been burning any candles lately?

  1. We've been working our way through various small pumpkin scented candles, things like Febreze and Glade. None of them are jumping out at us as "Amazing!" this year though. *sigh*

    1. That stinks. Hopefully their Christmas ones will burn better. Are you going to still try them? At least we know the 719 ones work.

    2. Deb, for pumpkin scents this year I'm loving BBW Pumpkin Coconut and Pumpkin Pecan Waffles! The 719 Walnut Ave Pumpkin Waffles candle is an excellent dupe of the BBW one imo for only $4.97! I also highly recommend the BHG jar candles: Farm Apple Pumpkin, Whipped Pumpkin Cream, Pumpkin Ginger Cookie, Caramel Pumpkin Popcorn, and the list goes on. There's also a nice Target brand Pumpkin Cheesecake candle. I've never cared for the Glade or Febreeze candles.

    3. Julie, I have one of the Glade Christmas ones and four of the 719 Christmas ones, plus some leftovers from last year, so that's probably all I'll buy this year. Unless Febreze has something amazing.

Amanda, we already went through our 719 Pumpkin Waffles candle this year. We had it last year too. I very rarely have B&BW candles because of the price, and the fact that I rarely go to the mall. The ones I have are usually gifts. I've always had pretty good luck with Glade and Febreze, and I prefer smaller candles so they've been fun for me. Have you seen the American Home (by Yankee) candles and tarts at Walmart?

  2. Sounds really lovely and unique! The most I'm willing to pay for candles is around $12- BBW on sale. Received a Diamond Candle as a Christmas gift last year from my hubby, he paid $30 and it was lovely. Pumpkin Cupcake scent with strong throw, and the beautiful ring inside, though only worth $10, was worth the extra cost to me. I managed to buy another one later on that was on sale for $15, so that was nice! The only drawback to them is they produced a lot of soot.
My favorite current burn is the BHG Vanilla Buttercream Cupcake candle going today. Best vanilla candle I've ever had! Review up on the blog. :)

    1. It is! I understand keeping a candle budget low. It makes sense. There are so many great candles out there. I do gravitate towards to unique and exotic. Most bakery and sweets get mundane after a while and I need to shake things up. Did you get any ice jewelry in your candle?

I love vanilla! I may need to go sniff that one. Off to read your review! <3

  3. Niche candles are so pricey! I don't have any though for that reason. I hear good things about the Diptyque ones.

    1. Yes they can be Chloe! There are deals to be had though if you ever want to dip a toe into that realm. I bought this one half off during L'Artisan's Winter Sale they have every year. I also bought my first Diptyque candles half off on Hautelook last week. I am quite excited to try them out. I hope you have a great week! Thanks for stopping by.

  4. It sounds like it had a pretty unique scent once you managed to get it going! I've never tried these ones before.

I find myself always going for the more exotic scents as well but it is so hard to justify the price of some of them. You definitely have to get in on the good sales when they're going on!

    1. Yes, I agree. I can't buy them on the regular but as a nice splurge once in a blue moon it is not so bad :-) And a sale is a must! The only one I have not found on sale is a CireTrudon. One day. Thanks for chatting with me!
