Fall Fun Series: Fall Favorite

Happy Fall!

Mums and cinnamon brooms are the two things I look forward to gracing my home with each fall. My fall favorites. The cinnamon brooms were not quite out at the market yet, but mums there were a plenty.

I picked up three at Walmart. I hope I can keep them alive at least until Thanksgiving... or Halloween.

Something else arrived that I look forward to getting each fall as well...

A big honking box of goodies from Carol at Candles From the Keeping Room.

Let me tell ya. It was a good one. I will post it this week coming up.

Some melts I have enjoyed:
Blending Mainstays Mulled Cider with Woodwick Cinnamon Cheer (very good!) and Candles From the Keeping Room Amish Quilt and Apple Dumpling.

I kinda miss shooting the breeze with my melting basket posts, which are on hiatus during the Fall Fun Series so I am stealing this moment. Beware... I do get a little personal on this one so if natural talk bothers you, consider closing out here. <3

I am reading White Oleander right now and I think it is making me a little exhausted with my extra hormones and all. But I will definitely be finishing it. We are headed up to visit one of my best friends who is having a house warming/wedding celebration. I am quite excited to see her, as we don't get to very often. I had a nice week at work. A student gifted me a sweet stuffed animal that she made into a pandacorn (half panda, half unicorn) and after a particularly rough day of cramping and Blood Moon misery I came home to flowers and a note from my husband that he had put a pint of Ben & Jerry's in the freezer "to sooth your weary uterus." I "awwwww'd" out loud and said "he really does love me!" and Scarlette's voice came from behind reminding me "Mama, he has always loved you."

Is your fall off to a good start? Do you have any items you look forward to getting each autumn? Are you a cinnamon broom or mums kinda person? Let me know how you are doing. Please check out the blogs on my sidebar to see what fall item must-haves they love to get.

  1. White Oleander?! Jeez, all aboard the depression bus, departures every two and a half pages! You will be a far greater reader than I if you can finish it, because I couldn't!

And mums are wonderful - I adore them. My local grocery store has the most beautiful display of them outside at the moment. I was married on Halloween, and in an effort to cut down on the floral costs, we went to a garden centre a few days before and bought about 100 pots of mums to decorate the outside and inside of the venue (a barn, because of course!) They looked wonderful and so festive, and best of all, inexpensive!

    1. Sandra. I burst out a fat "HA HA!" when I read the depression bus. It is very hard to read this poor girl's story. But I am holding out for redemption. She HAS to have some sort of decent ending. My psyche is invested.

Your wedding sounds beautiful! Do you have any plans for your anniversary coming up? Picking up some mums of course <3 My sister got married in a barn looking place and it was beautifully rustic.

    2. We actually have no plans! But we're kind of no-plan people (plus we might be saving up time and money for a big blow-out next year on our 13th, Disney styles.) I'm sure just sitting around reminiscing will figure prominently!

Barn weddings are awesome, and I grew up right down the road from the place where we got married, so it just felt right. I might have to put up some pictures at the end of October.

  2. AWW how cute is that!? Don't you just love it when husbands are sweet?! I cannot wait to be able to catch a restock of CFTKR. Even the packaging looks like so much fun!! Love your mums and scarecrow, super cute!

    1. I do. I haven't had a note like that in a while and it really filled my heart. October 8th is Carol's next opening. I think I got enough to last the next century or so.

Thank you! The mums were only $3.97 each and the scarecrow was a Dollar Tree purchase :-)

  4. I stayed away from White Oleander bc my bestie hated it with a passion. Mums are so perfect and festive for fall that they were just edged out as my fave fall item.
I recently remembered that I used them as centerpiece prizes at my bridal shower, which was during the spring! They were pastel lavender and we stuck em in terra cotta pots and tied some raffia bows and they made a nice, inexpensive take-home.
How sweet to receive some thoughtful gestures when you needed them this week. I once received an origami boat made by a student that I kept for years, not sure where it resides now, hmmm...

    1. I can see why it would be a book to hate. Very harsh and if you have even remotely felt with abandonment or violation or abuse it would be a huge trigger. It is hard for me to read at points since I tend to get emotionally invested.

Lavender mums are stunning!! I bet they made gorgeous centerpieces. I keep gifts from students too. It is such a sweet outpouring of appreciation that I can't help but treasure it. Hope you find the boat! Do you still teach?

    2. Nope, after 2yrs of substituting combined with 7 as intervention assistant, I got outta dodge. Never fulfilling for me, stymied by constraints most of the time. But I'm in love w/my library specialist career(most days) It suits me well, I was a history major way back in college.
I remember seeing one of your posts for first time last spring when you mentioned your job and definitely saw a connection there:)

  5. I love mums! I don't have any this year and am not sure if I'll get any. I can't keep them alive for much more than the car ride home. LOL! I read some time ago that you can plant the spring mums and that gives them enough time to adapt and get strong by fall and they'll return after that. I want to try that this spring, in our flowerbed here along the side of the house.

    1. Funny you said that. I left for literally one day and came home to one half dead. But of course it is crazy hot out so they need water pretty much everyday here. I would love to try planting them. Not sure how they would do here. But I can try.
