Fall Fun Series: Introduction

Hello there friends! This will be a new post series that myself, and a bunch of old and new blogging friends will be engaging in this autumn season. We will be covering our fall wax melts, candles, recipes, decorations, and more. Please feel free to join us in the comments when we post by telling us what you are melting or creating or loving this fall. If you are a blogger and would like to join us please let us know and we will send you the schedule of posts. Please welcome the following bloggers and check out their posts as well which will generally post Monday and Friday starting September and ending the day after Thanksgiving (some may post on different days or times):

Amanda at ThriftyPolished
Jessica at The Meltdown Blog
Lauren at LoloLovesScents
Liz at Furianne
Sandra at Finger Candy
Stephanie at Imperfectly Painted
Sunnee at Our Sunny Life

To kick off the first post we will do a Fall Tag!

1. What is your favorite thing about fall?

I can never do just one favorite but some of my most favorite: cooler days with less humidity, pumpkins everywhere, gearing up for holiday seasons, baking binges, darker lipsticks and nail polish.

2. Do you get fall colors where you live?

Not really. Late summer the Sycamore leaves turn yellow and fall off, the cypress tree leaves turn brown and fall off and oak trees loose some leaves. But no waves of multihued leaves to gaze at.

3. Favorite fall scent (wax, or anything)?

Apple cinnamon blends probably for wax and the scent of carving pumpkins and when the candle singes the inside of a jack o' lantern. I love the scent of baking apple cakes and pumpkin cookies. Speaking of....

4. Favorite fall food or drink?

I love baking apple cake and for dinner this Cider Braised Pork Stuffed Acorn Squash and these Pumpkin cookies and I have a yummy recipe for Creamy Pumpkin cake and other goodies. I really just love all the fall flavors in cooking, the spices apples, pumpkins and rustic flavors. I also love making Butterbeer and drinking pumpkin flavored coffee, chai tea, lapsang souchong with cream and cider. See I can't just answer one.

5. Football.....yay or nay?

Eh... semi-yay? It is on in the house regardless. I find myself half heartedly watching the Gator games and cheering on the Vikings for Deb. That is about it. Oh and ribbing Adam about the Browns. I like it better than soccer or hockey if that says anything. I do enjoy the drone of football games in the background while Adam watches and cooking up finger foods for dinner on Sunday night while he watches.

6. Do you rake, jump in, or burn piles of leaves?

In fantasy, I jump in then burn. I have never raked anything other than cow poop.

7. Haunted house or corn maze?

Ooooooo! Corn maze. I am a chicken. I used to go to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios or the Haunted House at Old Town in Kissimmee when I was young but now I am not really into that kind of thing. Yep. Corn maze.

8. Have you ever gone on a hayride?

Sure! Many times. Usually pulled by a tractor and sitting on bales of hay. The most recent one was probably a couple years ago at Green Meadows Farm in Kissimmee. As you can tell, we hang out in Kissimmee sometimes.

9. Cider or hot chocolate?

Cider probably. I had my very first hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick with NaLonda in NYC in Bryant Park two Novembers ago. It was pure bliss. I normally buy cold apple cider for the girls and I to drink in the fall. I do love a rich hot chocolate though. I like to buy the Mexican bars of cocoa and melt them in a pot and add cream and milk. Soooooo good! Yeah, we do both around here but cider if I HAD to pick.

10. Carve a pumpkin or eat pumpkin pie?

Both. HA! Ok... ok.... carve I suppose. But then that means I can just eat gooey butter pumpkin cake right? With Cool Whip on top.

11. Do you dress up for Halloween?

Sometimes! I have been Steve Irwin, Hermione, Bellatrix Lestrange (last year), it just depends on where we are going or what we are doing.

12. Candy corn.....yay or nay?

Yay! I grab a hand full and eat the fat yellow parts first, then go back and eat the orange centers then leave the tiny white pointy booties for last. They taste incredible chopped up and put in Rice Crispy treats.

13. Favorite Halloween movie?

The Nightmare Before Christmas and Over The Garden Wall series on Cartoon Network

14. Scariest movie?

Don't really dig scary movies but It probably takes the cake. I read the book as a 12 year old and it was insane. The movie was intense too.

15. Halloween or Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving. Love cooking and enjoying being with family.

16. Do you watch the Macy's parade?

Just tiny bits and pieces because we leave the house around 10:30 to head to our annual family reunion.

17. Apple pie or pumpkin pie?

Pumpkin pie. Hands down. I don't LOVE apple pie the way I do pumpkin. But I still make it for Adam.

18. White or dark meat?

I used to love dark meat all the time and still like it but if the meat is juicy, then white. And skin. Always skin.

19. Jellied or real cranberry sauce?

Both. I love canned cranberry sauce but I like making it homemade too and using it on fried turkey sandwiches the next day with extra mayo and some kinda excellent cheese. I am drooling already.

20. Will you host or travel for Thanksgiving this year?

We only travel for the lunch reunion at Alderman's Ford Park then come home and I cook the traditional meal. Adam fries the turkey. We invite anyone who wants to come to grab a plate. We don't ever travel away for Thanksgiving. We end up traveling for Christmas and other holidays so I try not to for this one.

How about you? Join us by giving some of your fall tag answers! Next post we will feature our fall melting stash.

  1. Hi Julie! I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts; thanks for inviting me to participate! Sounds like we have similar taste in fall foods and beverages. :) That pie looks to die for! I hope you and the family are staying safe and dry as Hurricane Hermine rolls in. I can't imagine!

    1. I am so glad you joined us Amanda! I just got home from work and have been looking forward to reading everyone's today, so I am doing that now. Even though I am not apple pie crazy, I do love it with vanilla ice cream on top. We have been soaked with that tropical depression. I do know that I NEED Sunday to be dry.

    1. WHOOHOO!!! Some of our favorite things!! <3 I think I will do my toes and fingers in some vampy color tonight. While watching Stranger Things of course.

Awwww thanks! I think I want to bake an apple cake soon. But the cookies won't be far behind. I love baking. I think I love baking apple pies more than eating them. Unless ice cream is involved.

  3. Your next day turkey sandwich sounds yummy. I usually just pile leftover white meat on a plate and inhale it with tons of salt. Mmmmm. All this talk of Thanksgiving food has me pretty darn hungry now.

    2. I scored at Target today! Spent $30 just in the Dollar Spot! The only I didn't find was the little notepad shaped like a pumpkin. Oh, and the second set of ink pad colors.

  4. Oh Julie, that apple pie pic is a study in beauty. Gaaah, such nice lattices ( don't think I've ever complimented someone with that line before!)
I'm so happy there is an archived cooking cove with the apple cake recipe - I am going to make that mine this year! ツ

  5. Oh my gosh, this is going to be such a fun series to read!! I'm almost half tempted to participate!! I'm so behind on my blog reading and this was a perfect first post to come back to!

Just seeing a the different colors of the text in your post has me all giddy for fall lol. And of course cracking up over your Browns comment. Football season always starts out to be so exciting, the promise of a new year, new team. But by the end of the season, I can't even bear to watch a Browns game. It happens every year. Such disappoint.

All this talk of food is dangerous. Candy corn Rice Krispie treats. Turkey with crispy skin. Pumpkin cake with cool whip. LEFTOVER THANKSGIVING SANDWICHES. There is no other season that comes with such irresistible treats as fall does. Perfect time for me to try to lose my baby weight =D

I can't wait to read more! As soon as the clock struck September 1st, it's been fall mode for this girl. Pumpkins out. Burnt orange accents everywhere. I'm sure I'll be sick of the fall decor come Thanksgiving but I just can't help myself!

Hope you are well Julie ❤️❤️❤️

    1. I wanted to ask you to join but didn't want to pressure you since your life is about to get amped up with your handsome lil boy arriving. I can't wait to see him. Please send me a pic. <3

I am totally excited about this series too! Lots of great ladies are joining and I am having a blast getting to know them.

Fall is ON! For sure. I bet your home looks fabulous in the rustic, burnt orange tones.

Poor Browns. I hope this will be their year. They deserve one. Any amazing candles I need to keep my eye out for??
