Favorite Fall Polishes

Fall make up and nail polish hues enthrall me. I adore the dark and vampy colors rich with bordeaux, mushrooms, and velvety purples. These five nail polishes get put on repeat during the autumn months and sometimes well into winter.

Left to Right:

Rescue Beauty Lounge: Killa Red is a chameleon red. Depending upon the lighting and number of coats it can range from fresh spilt, bright red blood to a deep dark dried oxblood. I prefer two coats for this heavily pigmented red. A stunning creme/jelly hybrid. I think young folks call it a crelly?

Nails Inc.: Foubert's Place is my "goes with anything" mushroom taupe. Highly pigmented and creamy. One of my favorite edgy neutrals.

Tom Ford: Bitter (Not Nice Word) despite the horrid name I bought it. And enjoy it. Bitter comes off as a red based chocolate creme. For being so ding dang expensive it certainly does not have the best formula (as you can see from the swatches, each polish was given one swipe of the brush and BB is quite watery). It can be streaky and needs 2-3 coats depending on my painting abilities on a given day. Why is it still in my top 5 Fall? I love the color. I really do not have anything close to it in my collection.

Rescue Beauty Lounge: Catherine was one of my favorite queens of Henry the VIII and this polish is just as beautiful. Silvery antique royal purple with glimmering shimmer. Pigmented 1-2 coater. RBL may be on the expensive side, but the quality shows. Excellent application and unique sophisticated colors.

Savvy: Red Caviar is a cheapie from Sally Beauty Supply but I adore it. The vamped up purple/red applies wonderfully. Admittedly, it does appear black after two coats, to the non trained polish eye, but polishaholics can tell that is more of a blacked out bourdeax. Totally.

Gratuitous blurred shot to display sparklies.

What colors do you like sporting in the fall? Do you have any favorite fall polishes?

  1. I don't wear nail polish but it would be maroons and dark, shimmery browns that I'd wear in the fall if I did. Every once in a while I'll slather some color on my nails but then I always feel silly and take it off within an hour or so. I'm such a nail noob, how do you not have to change it every day to match your outfit?

I want to be a nail painter. *sigh*

    1. I do paint my nails a lot. Probably every two-three days. But they hardly ever match what I am wearing. I don't match my makeup to my clothes either. Put some shimmery brown on for Halloween and try wearing it all day. See if you get used to it. :-) does it feel distracting to you? Or do you not like how it looks?

    2. I feel self conscious about it because I don't normally do it. Then all the people who know me and know I don't do it give me the weird looks.

    3. No! No judging eyes! Give them the anti-judging eye glare of "for shame!"

  2. I love vampy colors too and it's nice to know that I'm not alone! Fall colors are my favorite but I say that about every season's nail color! *snickers* I'm a manicure junkie and I especially love the gel polish because it lasts so long! And I'm not one for designs but I will always experiment with color! *wink*

    1. Hi Cristina! Thank you for swinging by! I love your blog. I love polish too. I tried stamping once and it was an utter failure. One thing I have not tried are the gel manis. I need to rectify that! Hope you have a fabulous week and survive the Outlander book hangover.

  3. I like your taste, I'm just starting to play around with polish again and have been browsing for all of these colors. I recently got a water based polish keeping my expectations low, but mostly so far so good. The dry time has been much faster for me contrary to what I had read about them. A little more chip prone, but still happy that I can apply without having to be as careful about dents or nicks.

    1. Polish can be a fun way to make your day more colorful. Was the water based polish Scotch by any chance? Their design and colors intrigue me. I have to wear a quick dry top coat every time. Otherwise mine won't last linger than an hour with out chipping. Happy color hunting!!

    2. The bottle I have is from Etsy. I have a Scotch bottle on the way from eBay.

    3. Will you let me know how you like the Scotch? Excited for you!

    4. Results so far with the Scotch are mixed, it is coming out streakier than I expected although is staying on the nail better than the initial one from Etsy. Polished nail photos online look smoother so I'll give another color a try, and get a bottle directly from a retailer.

    5. Streaky polish is no fun. But good staying power is a plus. Keep me posted if you grab one directly from them. Interested in the shades you picked.

I love 'Catherine' & 'Red Caviar'! I'm currently rocking "Surfs Up" parfumerie polish.. mainly to psych myself out into thinking its a bit warmer than it is. lol. but it is a gorgeous beachy shimmery blue... if you havent seen it, i think its a fabulous mermaid color. ^_^

    1. Hey! One can never have too many polishes. I need African Tea Rose from that line. And apricot. And now you are adding Surf's Up. So that one too. So many cool nail colors are coming out. I stare at the nail display at Sephora every time I go. Sparklies!!!!

  5. Such pretty colors! I don't really have fall colors for nail polish -- I've actually been totally slacking on painting my nails & desparately could use a pedi!! Anyway, sometimes around Halloween, I'll use black and/or orange nail polish. I need to take time & experiment more with my nail color like I use to!! :-)

    1. It feels good to take the time to sit and paint and relax a bit. Are you a shimmer, glitter, creme or sheer/jelly polish finish girl?

    2. Color & such really depends on my mood -- sometimes I'm in the mood for sparkles & sometimes I want a dark color. It just depends! :-)

    3. Stellar picks for fall! I am not a fan of dark polishes, mainly because they are so hard to clean and I can't "paint between the lines" very well. You have gorgeous skin so every color looks nice on your nails! :) I LOVE Rescue Beauty Lounge: Catherine, wowza! What a stunning color! Anything with the slightest glitter or sparkle or shimmer is an A+ in my book. :D

    4. Darks do show mistakes more. I love Catherine too. RBL makes some beautiful shimmers. I agree. Love me some shiny stuff <3
