Ebb & Flow: October

The highs and the lows of the month.

Happy Halloween and all that spooky jazz. These are our pumpkins we carved yesterday after school and work. Savanna did the big eye guy, I tried to copy a raven in a church window type of thing and Scarlette made a kawaii fun face.

Bath bombs with so much glitter I literally have to shower, change the sheets and change my pajamas when I realize how thoroughly covered I am by a fine sheen of metallic... stuff.

Low:
I am not sure how much detail I want to go into but my dad almost died Saturday morning. He fell about 25 feet and landed on his skull. There are so many factors at play that could have gone terribly wrong. And don't get me wrong... he is suffering: broken neck, back, ribs, compound fracture in his arm. But he is alive. Thank God, he is alive. He won't be home for many days and still has another surgery planned for today if his fever goes away. Thank you for those that have prayed and sent love my way and his. It means the world to me.

High:
My dad survived. His neck surgery went well. I got to hug him.

Happy Halloween, again. Hug your loved ones. And may your jack o' lanterns glow bright tonight and you get all treats and no tricks.

  1. The glittery bath bomb made me chuckle.

I never have words for situations like your dad but just know I have thought of you guys so often these past few days. I can't even imagine...

    1. Adam was not amused at all. It didn't help that I rolled around on his side of the bed before I changed the sheets and stuff.

Thank you Deb. Just knowing that you care means a lot to me. <3

  2. I'm so grateful that your father made it. <3

On a more lighthearted note: your pumpkin carving skills are clearly genetic - all three of you rocked it beyond belief!

    1. Thank you Nancy. Me too. Because it was way too close of a call for all of us. Your messages and kind words have been a balm to my frazzled heart.

LOL! Thanks! I love that they are of age to do it on their own and actually enjoy doing it. I told them last night that as long as they want to carve a pumpkin I will do one with them too. I hope they always want to carve one with me. <3 I secretly like that they never want to use the templates either and just do whatever is in their heads.

  4. I laughed and rolled my eyes about the too glittery/shimmery bath bombs. (I know how that is)!! And I was about crying at the writings on your dad. Oh my god, Julie! All my love and prayers to your dad, you and your family. I hope everything and all healing goes well. <3

    1. They can be fun but as I get older and older I am just about done with the bucket loads of glitter. :-)
Thank you for the prayers. I will happily accept them all. <3

  5. Relieved to hear the good news, prayers and thoughts with your father while he is recovering.

Your pumpkin and pumpkin diorama from your crafternoon came out great!

    1. Thank you Ellisa. Life is precious and as of late I have sometimes forgotten how quickly and dramatically it can turn on a dime. Trying to make sure I tell those I love just how much I do and show them as well. <3
