Today on the Fall Fun Friday series Jay, Sandra and I will be chatting about what will be reading, watching and/or listening to this fall.
For my part I will mostly be gushing about all the books I want to read.
In the photo above you will see the first two in the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness. I have been wanting to read these books for ages and witchy books and October go hand in hand. You will see Name the Wind on that shelf too. I aim to read that this winter or next year. I hear great things about it.
I picked up House of Leaves at the library not too long ago. It piqued my interest due to its unique ergodic style and its description as both a horror story and a love story. I have a feeling it will stretch my brain. I just hope it doesn't frustrate me too much.
I am currently reading Steinbeck's East of Eden.
I love the bright orange cover and animal illustrations. It is a beautiful read so far.
This is a book I picked up while in Savannah and I think it would be another fun October read. The Graveyard Book is a children's story but an award winner that I think I will enjoy.
Lastly, I hope to start the Mercy Thompson series. My friend Tricia gifted me these and I cannot wait to tear into them.
I am still watching Charmed and of course some mandatory Harry Potter viewings will take place. The girls, Adam and I are looking forward to the next installment of Fantastic Beasts on the big screen.
I am listening to Tony Elman's Appalachian music and the Potter sound track and Midnight Syndicate at the moment.

I have a copy of House of Leaves but it's so intimidating that I have yet to attempt it. I like your copy of East of Eden better than my boring white one lol! The Graveyard Book is one of my favorite NG's.
ReplyDeleteI just finished The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin which was outstanding and it has left me with a bit of a book hangover so not sure what will come next. I'm also listening to The Haunting of Hill House on audio while puttering around cleaning and stuff so that's going more slowly.
Listening to a lot of ambience rooms on YouTube while working--my boss listens to music and whistles, which makes me insane! Claire at ASMR Rooms has a whole lineup of lovely Harry Potter and other themes, and there are several more creators who do awesome stuff.
YES KATE!!! House of Leaves does have me a touch nervous. But I figure I could at least give it a go and see how it turns out. See how much I can pick up on. Thank you so much! I had been looking for AGES for East of Eden in used book stores and finally caved and bought a new one. I guess it is one of those books that people just don't let go of. I am really excited about reading The Graveyard Book. It looks really cute.
DeleteBook hangovers are tough. I think I wrote The Fifth Season down somewhere. I will look into getting that and Night Circus. I need to go book shopping. Is Haunting giving you all the good spooky feels? I see that it is a Netflix series now. I kinda want to read the book though.
HARRY POTTER AMBIANCE ROOMS?!?! Why have I not heard of this before?!?! Ok. I am back. I just spent 30 minutes listening to and watching bits and pieces of ASMR Rooms. I subbed and liked a ton. I will be using these in the classroom for sure. I normally play the Soothing Relaxation videos from YouTube on the TV screen while the kids work who need quiet and darker places to work. These will be perfect too. Please let me know if you have any other favorites.
Your bookshelf is magical. Nice edition of E of E, some of the Penguin orange collection are better realized than others-that's an award winning cover there. I hope you enjoy it, it's one I'll read someday but also one I unfortunately know the storyline to and allusion inspiration-making it somewhat of a spoiler. Still, it's Steinbeck, can't go wrong. My sis is listening to Discovery of Witches, I plan to, but probably not till next year, I still have 11 books to finish @_@ I'm determined to attend more movies this fall/winter, hoping Fantastic Beasts will be wonderful too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I can see what you mean about the cover art. It is a bit loud and probably not all that appealing on some books given the art accompanying it. I really and truly enjoyed it. It was gut wrenching and heart wringing. But I have a feeling it will stick with me. I was already referencing it during a faculty meeting. I already knew it was a Cain and Abel allegory but it still made quite an impact. Even stranger is that now I am reading Something Wicked This Way Comes and I am seeing very similar parallels about love and lack of love and what it can do to nurture good or evil.
DeleteI keep wondering if I will ever get to Discovery of Witches but I am determined. I think I am reading the "classic" next in the line up.
I love your bookshelf so much. Hmm, maybe if I decorated mine (I sort of do at Christmas, but clearly I can do better!) I might be more interested in what's over there. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Adam and my husband put it together. I did paint and sand the shelves but that was the easy part. Yes! Decorate your bookshelf! My lack of a fireplace makes this my "mantel."
