Warm Ups: or Wax Tarts That Don't Form A Pool

Wax Warms Ups came across my radar on Instagram. I assumed they were like every other wax tart in form and function. The owner (I assume) contacted me about providing feedback on the product and sent me some samples for free. When they arrived I noticed a texture similar to felt and the flower shapes appeared to be saturated in waxy oil.  Then I found out how they worked. The "felt" (this is what I am calling the material at this point, although it seems more "bouncy" then felt) keeps the wax and fragrance oil contained in the shape; so that as the wax melts, it is never pooling. It stays within the "felt" shape. Pretty interesting. Their website, www.waxwarmups.com, claims that this allows them to go beyond normal fragrance oil loads for traditional wax. It works like this: the wax feels firm but as the warmer heats up the wax melts and the shape becomes like a sponge.

Talk about innovative. I did specifically ask what the material was made out of and was told "a nonwoven textile." I asked if it was recyclable but was not answered. The textile derives from Wax Warm Up's other company, AFFCO (American Felt & Fiber Company) based out of New York and established in 1899. Now nonwoven textiles can be natural or synthetic or a combination. So not sure about the material but the oils we burn and melt are synthetic at any rate. The Warm Ups come in a moderate variety of scents. Some fresh, fruity, bakery, woodsy and sweet. Three tarts will cost $7.75 and should last you up to 3 days. I melted Apple. Let's see how it did!

Mahogany- A strong woods scent that leans more detergent than outdoors. It is still enjoyable, but is probably better suited for the bathroom.

Apple- I melted apple for 13 hours straight before I kinda got tired of it. Keep in mind I like to change out my scents every day or every other day. But this one would keep chugging along if I let it. It started out medium-strong in the kitchen then by the 13th hour faded to a medium-light but still detectable. This product makes it easy to just pop it back into the bag after cooling. Which is neat. The apple was pretty straight forward. Slightly floral, sweet red apple.

Gardenia- A honeyed gardenia with almost tuberose leanings. Very strong. Hit the ceiling strong.

Fresh and Clean- Ivory bar soap. SO strong I would be temped to cut it in quarters before I melt. And I might since it will go into my tiny bathroom. I am thinking a pair of kitchen scissors should do the job.

These guys are all super strong throwing scents. No wallflower tender vanillas or cakes. But the sheer strength almost gives them a detergent leaning. I am really excited to cut these in half and use them in my bathroom, as that warmer has no way of dumping. Plus I ignore it for long days at a time. I can also see these being perfect for consumers like my mom, who want STRONG scents that last AGES. The gardenia will be going to her house for sure. I would be willing to buy a few for gifting to home fragrance lovers in my life, but I am not sure they are personally for me. The price is kinda steep, though they do have serious longevity. But my stash is so big that I just want to keep melting, switching and enjoying. My attention span is too short for these I think. But not for my bathroom. I am not sure when the Warms Ups website will go live, but you can look at it here for now. What do you think?

  1. what an interesting idea! I checked out their website (it looks live?). not sure this would be for me either... I didn't see any cherry scent! lol. jk, but seriously, I enjoy changing my wax often too, and the price is a little steep for me. still a neat invention. will be curious to follow and see if the idea takes off in the wax world. :)

    1. It is very innovative! Yes. They do need a cherry, a mint and a cinnamon or apple cinnamon. I would totally be down for some pink peppermint.

  2. How interesting! I'm not sure they're for me either....gotta sizable wax stash to get through....but I think my mother (who has a very "set it and forget it" personality) might love something like this!

    1. Sounds like this product is ideal for both our moms! It is quite an interesting concept! I bet with some more fragrance selections and refinement they would be a hit.

  3. I'm glad to read your reviews of these! We received mostly the same sample scents except I received Olive Flower instead of Apple. I agree that they are super strong with a tendency to be detergent like. I do like that they are long lasting with easy cleanup and seem to function as they say they do. I would be very interested to try some of their sweeter/bakery types, but idk if I or when I'll get around to ordering any as there is just so much wax out there!

    1. I was enjoying reading your thoughts on them too Amanda. Olive flower sounds nice. I was wondering if it was an Olive Branch Lush dupe or like Rosegirl's Olive You. I might grab some gardenia for my mom if she ends up liking the ones I give her. You are right though! So much waaaaxxxx!! Lol!

  4. Interesting! Their scent list is way too limited for me to consider ordering at this point. If they ever add to the bakery section, or maybe a couple fall or Christmas favorites, I might try them. I do like the no-mess idea, and that I can set them aside and come back to them later, kinda like the Yankee scent cups.

  5. Thank you Julie. We are ever changing our fragrance line up and will have many more to come! It was our business decision to really go above our competition with not only our added value benefits through technology but also to deliver a product that would last longer. (We may have went a wee bit overboard;) ) We have smaller versions with less load that I may offer so I can entertain your arena which seems to be changing fragrances all of the time. Please keep all of your feedback coming and be sure to sign up to our email notification on our website.

    1. Hi Scott! So great to have a name with the company! Thank you for letting me test these guys out. It was fun and you are definitely on to something with these! A smaller option and a broader scent range are just the ticket.

    1. That would be fabulous! Maybe with the next launch of scents we could do a giveaway of some for my readers to try. :-)

  7. Cool idea! I may be inclined to pick some of these up one day if they expand their scent lineup. However, I feel like there are better long-term scent options (like Wallflowers, for example) that require a lot less effort than this. For me, part of the fun of wax is changing out the scents as often as I'd like! While not for me, I can definitely see this appealing to a lot of people!! Neat.

    1. I hear ya! There are a few scents I would look forward to having in this medium. Mainly mint and spice scents. The ease of placing back in the bag whole is very nice for scent changing. But I do agree with you. It is still a very innovative product!

  9. These are such a cool, new, neat idea! I agree with Deb, though, their scent list is too limited right now, but you've piqued my interest with this post, that's for sure!
