Christmas Decorations Around the House

Good morning friends! Well... only a few more days until Christmas. We are expecting temps in the upper 80's for Christmas... nothing new there but we have obviously had a warmer winter than usual. It does not bode well for the strawberries or citrus. They need a few cold snaps to sweeten. Even though the weather is not cooperating, we do still have festive decorations to rely upon. The old patchwork Santa on the cabinets was given to me by my stepdad ages ago. Not sure of the origins.

Only thing new in this area of the kitchen this year is the towel, gifted by a student.

Creeptastic 50's vintage Elf on the Shelf. This guy stays put though. No nocturnal shenanigans for him. Quite frankly he is lucky to even be there. >shudders<

China cabinet decor.

The terrarium is still kicking... the moss died long ago, but the plants are still living. I think I will replant them in the spring, new soil, new moss. Merry Christmas deer family.

This nativity was my post-Christmas steal from Hobby Lobby last year. Originally 100 some odd dollars but 80% off. It is my only real nativity scene.

We had to brainstorm a new way to hang our stockings this year. Previous years we used the knobs on the entertainment center we used to have in the living room. That went away with the old TV, so 3M it filling the bill nicely so far... ask me how they do once Santa stops by though. Tod's kitty stocking is hanging on the wall in the upper left. She gets one every year.

Our tree. No gifts until Christmas morning!

And lastly, the Christmas quilt, Christmas afghan, and some Target dollar bin lights in the corner. And Taco Bell fiesta potatoes from lunch.

I think I would like to get another light up figure for the yard this year and maybe a decoration for the house after Christmas. How about you? Anything you are thinking of grabbing post-Christmas? Or are you one of the sane ones who stays home the day after Christmas? Do you have a favorite decoration?

  1. I have so many nativity scenes, whether it's sets I've collected or ornaments with the scene, or whatever. I just love nativity scenes! I wish I could display them all but I don't have the same display space I used to, and Minion likes to knock pieces over.

I shook my head as I looked at these pics. Even on my most minimalist years I have about 5.000 more decorations than you. I think I have a problem. LOL

I do like to look through what's left after Christmas but I don't make a point to go on Dec. 26. Whenever I'm next back in town, I'll browse through all the picked over remains and maybe get a thing or two.

    1. I think I need more nativities! And definitely need more decorations. It's weird because I don't have a theme really. I just buy what I like. Minion has a fun life! Tod never does normal cat things like play in the tree or get into stuff. I almost wish she did so I think she at least enjoys her life.

I was hoping to hit up Target the day after but we are going to visit Adam's parents in southwest FL so it will have to wait. Maybe there will still be some stragglers waiting on me.

    2. Minion certainly does keep life interesting in this house. Sometimes I just don't have the patience for his antics, but most of the time we've learned how to cope. Sometimes he's just being flat out naughty and gets a timeout in his crate.

  2. I've gotten into the habit of going shopping the day after Christmas.... because of Lush's sale <_< I'm so festive. But because I'm usually out, I'll stop by a lot of other stores with my Mom and we'll pick up some extremely discounted holiday decorations for the next year.
I'm living vicariously through my parents' decorating because Michael and I have nothing Christmasy to decorate with. I contemplated picking up some decorations to bring with me over yonder but I don't think I'll have space in my bags. Christmas isn't as big of a deal over there, so that's a bit of a bummer for me.
That tree is gorgeous! We stopped hanging candy canes up when we adopted the dogs because they're little stinkers that tried to eat the entire tree after coming across one delicious candy cane.

    1. Yes!!!! Lush BOGO is a huge deal for me! Are you going to grab anything this year? Hopefully the base will still do a lot of festive parties and stuff. You can always make your own Christmas!! <3 maybe you can smuggle over a mini tree and lights. Don't forget to pass on your new addy pretty please!

  3. Mmmm... I love those fiesta potatoes! :) Lovely decorations! I'm in a tiny, temporary home so I have not done any decorating. It's too small even for the 3 foot tree from our former apartment, which is now in storage along with our stockings and ornaments. My husband's grandparents do a tree, so that's nice. I'm waiting on the last few gifts in the mail and just need to buy a few DVD's and wrapping things, along with putting in a massive cleaning effort. It will be a busy week; I hope it all gets done. Merry Christmas!

    1. Yum! Me too! They are deadly.

Are you going to spend Christmas at your husband's grandparent's place? I hope you can get all the items to do on your list checked off! I just finished wrapping the girls' stuff. Only a couple more to do. Merry Christmas!

  4. Oooh.. your tree is so pretty, Julie! I'm curious why you wait until Christmas morning to put any gifts under it? I like your decorations.. just right the right amount and not over done :) btw - your wash board is awesome!

    1. I grew up having gifts already under the tree except for the few Santa brought, but Adam figured since we don't really do lots of gifts for the girls (only 2-3 gifts each plus stocking) that it would make a bigger impact on them to come out to gifts on Christmas morning, and since he does not request too much I wanted to go along with it. :-) Thank you! The washboard is a spice cabinet I got at a yard sale eons ago. I love it.

  5. Love love love these types of posts!!! I love how your Christmas decorations work with your coastal style. Can we talk about those Taco Bell potatoes though? Pure bliss lol! I went cuckoo bananas with Christmas decor this year. I've not decorated this house much for the past few holidays because I knew I would want to get lots of new stuff once the house was done. I've even been thinking about doing a blog post with all of our holiday decor! But both my wax blog and nail blog both feel like the wrong place. I need a new vessel!
