Etat Libre d'Orange Perfume Sampler

Sephora, 20% off coupon and Christmas shopping for family, then somehow this little rectangular prism ends up in my cart. $12 for a smellsome playground. I am in. Etat Libre d'Orange is a tongue-in-cheek modern perfume house that I recently began exploring a few years ago with Bendelerious and then Olfactif sent La Fin du Monde in last month's box. I craved more.

So here it is. There are seven 1.5 mL dab vials in the box.

Dangerous Complicity- Notes include: Rum, ginger, coconut, bay, calamus, osmanthus absolute, Egyptian jasmine absolute, ylang ylang, lorenox, patchouli, leather accord, sandalwood.
Sweet candied cruises, coconut rum drinks, tropical flower leis and sultry nights dancing under Carribbean stars. A sexy scent that would be second skin to Carmen Miranda.

Fat Electrician- Notes include: Vetiver, chestnut cream, olive leaves, vanilla, opoponax, myrrh.
This fat electrician is welcome to peep under my cupboards any day. The vetiver cocks a dark eyebrow enticingly in this creation. The cream and vanilla keep the vertiver from being electrifying but cannot prevent my nose from being drawn like a magnet to my wrist.

Fils de Dieu- Notes Include: Ginger, coriander, lime, shiso, coconut, jasmine, rice, cardamom, cinnamon, may rose, vetiver, musk, amber, castoreum.
A tempered floral that showcases jasmine then lime on my skin. A tropical little ditty that would bring some sunshine to a dreary winter day.

Jasmin et Cigarette- Jasmine absolute, tobacco notes, apricot, tonka bean, curcuma, cedarwood, amber, musk.
Glorious jasmine, unmistakable jasmine. Jasmine vines tumbling down the front porch stairs where you sit opening an un-smoked cigarette, to pinch and sprinkle the dried finely chopped sienna tobacco leaves at your feet while you contemplate your love life.... or lack thereof.

Putain des Palaces- Rose absolute, violet, leather, lily of the valley, tangerine, ginger, rice powder, amber, animal notes.
This tongue in.... cheek... scent? Seductive like night-before seamed stockings, powder puffs gracing vanities and kitten heels, and boudoirs overflowing with roses. Bedroom eyes.

Like This- Notes Include: Ginger, pumpkin, tangerine, neroli, vetiver.
How can a scent feel so utterly cheerful, innocent, mischievous? The ginger perks up the senses, the pumpkin mellows, it is an oxymoron of a scent and I love it.

Cologne- Notes inlcude: Blood orange, orange blossom, bergamot, jasmine, musk, leather.
An Italian coast cologne that embodies aged citrus, sultry sunsets laced with Tuscan jasmine and a drydown of tanned leather. An excellent cologne rendition that can easily be swapped between genders. Perfect for sweltering Florida days.

Out of these guys I can see myself obtaining larger decants of: Fat Electrician, Jasmin et Cigarette, and Like This. I do love them all, but I simply can't have everything. Do any of these pique your interest? Have you tried Etat Libre d'Orange yet? Any favorites?

  2. I love that Sephora has foregone the celebrity scents in favor of more niche brands. Fat Electrician sounds dreamy. That chestnut cream note speaks to me.

    1. You and I both! Can't wait to sniff around Indigo with you next summer. I keep seeing more and more great niche and artisan houses that I have been dying to try. Fat Electrician is an exciting ride for the nose, I hope the chestnut cream pulls great on your skin <3
