Sonoma Scent Studio: Ambre Noir

Sonoma Scent Studio Ambre Noir garnered me a few compliments when I wore it to work not too long ago. With notes of amber, labdanum, rose, woods and incense, this fragrance unfolds in seductive yet cozy layers.

Scintillating amber aldehydes rise like sparks lifting from a bonfire into an indigo summer sky at first spray. The summer solstice sun, jealous of the moon, begrudgingly abdicates its reign in the sky. The long awaited evening blooms under the warm flames of the welcoming bonfire set into the bezel of a wild garden. Velvety merlot rose hearts crack open under the orange glowing enchantment of the nearby flames. From their vulnerable openness issues a dusky amber and rose perfume that swims through the warm air and picks up traces of the woodland. The drydown wears with tenacious longevity and imparts the smoldering coziness of a sweet and dark sticky labdanum inflected with warm incense to the skin.

Overall, it is indeed a dark amber. Rich, deep and softly sweet.

I went back and picked up the travel size spray fairly quickly. This is the former 4 ounce size, Laurie has since returned to her traditional 5 ounce travel sprays due to them performing more reliably.

Another lovely fragrance from Laurie at Sonoma Scent Studio. And another one that I am hankering for in a larger size. Thankfully I have a couple new perfume organizers.

How do you store your perfume collection? Do you have any Sonoma Scent Studio favorites?

    1. Yes! A Sonoma Scent Studio soul sister! Jour Ensoleille is beautiful! I have 17ml bottles of Incense Pure and Champagne de Bois and the big bottle of Tabac Aurea. Forest Walk will be getting a bigger bottle soon. Yin and Ylang is stunning as well. I also an nursing my Sienna Musk as it is discontinued. Pacific Forest and Equestrian are new favorites of mine. Do you like any of her violets? Violet Wood is lovely. I am excited about her new ones rolling out here soon. And yes, the longevity is seriously impressive. I can still smell them on me after a long, and sometimes hot and brutal, day of work when I was a PE teacher. Laurie is truly a magician!!

    2. Yes, I agree that Laurie is a magician, and I can hardly wait to try her new fragrances (I can say that Sonoma Scents are my favorite fragrances). I love Sienna Musk too! I have a little of that left, and I'm really going to miss it when my bottle is empty. I'm not sure if I have any of the violets. I'll have to check my samples. I would also be interested in seeing your organizer. I keep telling myself that I should not purchase any additional fragrances, but I just ordered some additional Dame samples when he offered a free sample of his new fragrance on the 4th. Have you tried any of his fragrances? By the way, I tried Solstice Scents after reading your reviews. I am especially fond of Guardian and had to purchase a full bottle.

    3. Exactly, Cathy! I can say Sonoma Scent Studio is my favorite artisan house without a doubt. If I could only purchase and wear from one house ever again it would be SSS. Are you on IG? I can tag you in a picture of the organizer. It is not anything substantial but I enjoy it.

I have tried and enjoyed a few Dame's! I have a full bottle of his Gardenia, Lime and Benzoin and like Herb Man and a few others. They are nice summery cologne type scents. I quite enjoyed Guardian too! It is a beautiful natural throw back type of scent. A full bottle?! How exciting!! The oil or EDP? I am hoping to get a full bottle of Vanilla Pipe Tobacco EDP at some point.

    4. Yes to IG. I bought the EDP and only need one spray to last for 8+ hours. I love, love Vanilla Pipe Tobacco too. I would love to find a Cherry Pipe Tobacco...Lol.

    5. Ok, Cathy. I went ahead and splurged on that Vanilla Pipe Tobacco EDP. I couldn't hold out any longer. We only live once right?

I have a friend, Sandra, who was hoping the VPT would be more cherry too. I am too iffy on cherry scents to buy a fb blind, but if Angela ever came out with one I would certainly sample it.

    1. I have the one for my pefume oils and then bought that mirror with a shelf to hold my larger bottles of Sonoma Scent Studio and Solstice Scents. I will tag you in my IG photo of it. My other perfumes are still in a jewelry type box and my samples are in old glass candle jars. <3
