If you have read any of my Favorite 'Fumes posts you know what a fangirl I am of Laurie Erickson's handmade artisan fragrances at Sonoma Scent Studio. I recently placed an order for a few samples and Wood Violet was one. I fell in love so hard and fast I placed another order that day for a travel size. Laurie describes it as a plummy violet on a musky cedar base.
You know what it makes me want to do? Quote some more Neruda "Ode to a Cluster of Violets." But I will spare you that beautiful, yet verbose reciting again. Plummy violet it is, without being heavy. Purple delicate faces shining in bunches on the forest floor, nestled on verdant hearts. Plum skin, smooth and sweetly tart keep the violets young and fresh. The solemn scent of cedar grounds the brightened violets. I feel beautiful when I wear this.
My sister Heather said it most succinctly when she applied some to her own wrists, "Wow, this smells classy." This is a sophisticated and gorgeous scent that can be embraced by a younger generation without them thinking it is "old lady" or "too mature." Which is quite a feat with violets.
I have some more samples to review from SSS, Voile de Violette and Amber Incense, the latter being constructed from all natural materials. Have you worn all natural perfumes before? There will be an SSS sample of my favorite perfume of Laurie's in my one year anniversary My Favorite Things Giveaway on May 28th. "Like" The Redolent Mermaid on Facebook and follow me on Instagram to see more hints of what will be included.
I will definitely be making a purchase from Sonoma Scent Studio in the near future. Thanks for yet another great lead! I'm really enjoying the two Olfactif samplers you'd recommended earlier.
ReplyDeleteKevin, Laurie's perfumes are finely crafted. She sells parfum strength fragrances at insanely good prices with all types of price points and quantities.
DeleteI am digging the Olfactif boxes too! I have finally found a subscription I get pumped about each month! Which scent did you like best this month???
Between the April/May boxes I've received, Jardin Mystique is my runaway favorite. Really strong green/white floral notes, love it!! ALL of the fragrances are very nice and will be fun to play around with.
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm... Jardin Mystique is quite lovely! You have me wanting to wear it again.
DeleteI'm looking forward to hearing about Amber Incense. Laurie said she is working on an all-natural version of Forest Walk, I think I'll order both when that is ready. Lately I've been wearing a cedarwood, rose, patch and clove blend from Moonalisa. I love a good pencil shavings-free cedarwood blend. How is your Atelier Cèdre Atlas?
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to wearing it! Forest Walk is beautiful. I would love to smell it in natural form too. Laurie does cedarwood beautifully. You know, I haven't worn it yet. But I will tomorrow and report back! Hope you have a nice first week of June!
DeleteI am so sad, Wood Violet was my favorite. It is 2018 and I discovered it too late. I felt like that was my signature scent for fall and winter. When I tried to reorder, I found out that she closed and is all sold out. I don't know if I will ever find a Violet perfume that smells like that one. I've smelled oyhers and none of them smelled like Wood Violet. :(
ReplyDeleteIt is rather heartbreaking to not have access to these gorgeous scents for now, but Laurie did mention she is selling her business (and formulas!) to someone who can carry them on. Please keep an eye out on her website and follow her blog. She has been updating now and then. Perhaps you can get a full bottle of Wood Violet in the future! I still am nursing this smaller travel size. Today I am wearing her Pacific Woods and loving every minute of it.
