The Caramel Jar

I follow The Caramel Jar on Instagram, thanks to Lauren. I am a first class freak for homemade caramel... especially salted. The owner, Nicole, has an Etsy shop that is currently closed for summer due to moving, but I actually bought this from her direct website here. I saw it was one of the last items not sold out so I pounced. Boy howdy, I am glad I did.

The package opened beautifully to brown paper and her simply designed logo that looks sharp, the mason jar nestled in many layers of bubble wrap for protection.

The packaging wows me. My country chic sisters would love this. A half pound of handmade Fleur de Sel Caramels ran $16, plus shipping.

They were well worth it. The caramel is buttery without being greasy, the sea salt is fine and sparse but provides the perfect juxtaposition to the sweet caramelized sugar. Perfect amount of chewy and melty. My eyes involuntarily roll back into my head when indulging in these. This is my Mother's Day gift to myself.

I will be keeping my eye out for when she reopens after the move. I plan on including these with holiday gifts this year if I can. Do you like homemade caramels? How do you feel about the sweet & salty thing? Mason jars? Will they ever go out of style?

  1. What a wonderful gift to yourself!! Homemade caramels are so insanely delicious that I'd probably eat the whole jar at one sitting. The sweet & salty is okay but I prefer my sweets to be just that.. all sweet :)

Happy Mother's day to you, Julie! <3

    1. There really is something special about homemade caramels. Nothing quite like them.

  2. Yummo. Ditto everything Lynda said. For something that tastes so good there aren't a lot of ingredients, I'd like to give them a try someday. And stirring that pot must be as gratifying as a sea salt bar. :) For afternoons I have a bar of Chocolove dark chocolate with almonds & sea salt at work, rationing is a challenge.

    1. Mmmmm! Chocolate and salt get me too. I have made pralines and toffee but never caramels. I think I should try it. I don't know why it never crossed my mind to. Thanks Jean! I hope you had a nice Saturday.

    2. The other thing I first saw on Etsy that I'd like to try is homemade marshmallows. Back when Etsy had various color coordinated items on their homepage I would see them sometimes and oogle. Enabling post that I will follow someday.

    3. Oh yum! I have never tried a handmade marshmallow. It looks relatively easy though. Thank you!

    1. Lauren. SO GOOD! My sister came over and popped one in and agreed on its awesomeness. I think it would rate high on your scale.
