Good Morning

Jay reminded me that I neglected to post my photos of the beautiful Cedar Wax Wings that I saw for the first time in Maine. I heard some enchanting birdsong when we had hiked to the top of Flying Mountain and it was really close by. I scanned the area of trees it was coming from and they were less than 3 feet from me at eye level. I was so giddy when I recognized their black masks and beautiful coloring. And that edgy crest of feathers on their heads.

I have been pawing through lots of Birds of North America type of books.

My reading has been going strong. I was reading a thick epic book about the immigration of the Celts from the Iberian peninsula (Spain) and Gaul (France) to Ireland. I will do a mid-summer recap soon. Right now I am reading a book to fit the scent category, Coming to My Senses written by Alyssa Harad, a perfume blogger. It is fun reading about all her experiences reading blogs I have read and enjoyed for years. To know so many people enter the world of fragrance through those same circles and virtual doors.

My garden is pretty much done for the summer. The plants have produced and now they revolt the heat. I don't blame them. I think I will continue to plant wildflowers all over it for now. I like seeing their sunny faces as I look out the window. Plus I have been indulging in some wildflower arranging in the home.

A winner was randomly drawn for the Sanaria candle giveaway and the winner was Elaine Cole. <3

Don't forget about the 20% code: TLC20

And I wanted to pose a question to you. Do you use hair masks? Would you recommend me one for fine, dry, curly hair? My locks are being brutalized by all the chlorine at Aquatica lately. Our passes run out in August and we have been enjoying the water park as much as possible but it leaves my hair feeling like straw.

Now that summer is in full swing... what is your favorite summer activity?

  1. I DO use hair masks! I've been trying a variety of them since we've settled into the dry heat here, but I keep going back to a simple coconut oil treatment. I have a tupperware container full of coconut oil with a little bit of avocado oil and castor oil mixed in and every other week (or more often, depending on how often I feel I need it) I'll slather my hair in it and let it sit under a hair cap for several hours before washing everything out. It's saved my poor locks from feeling so dry and dead. Sometimes I'll add in an egg if I'm feeling extra DIY-ey, but most times I stick with just oils and butters.

As for store-bought masks, I can't say I've ever tried any that made a difference with my hair. I'm always on the lookout though!

Hmmm... I'd have to say my favorite summer activity so far has been early morning bike rides. I'm consistently awake between 4 and 5 each morning, even on weekends, so I try to fill those mornings with something nice and productive before the sun is out in full force.

    1. Dry heat? Are you in Arizona? Nevada?

Coconut oil is one I can do for sure. And I know we are both curly hair girls so I will try this. I will grab some of the other oils too and do this. Thank you!

Bike rides. I need to do that more often. I can't say I get up that early... more like 7:30-8am as of late... but I can definitely make more of my morning routine. Thanks for the idea!

LIZ I AM STILL SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU!!!!! >off to go look if you have posted on your blog<

    2. I'm in Arizona! Talk about a rude change of climate for my skin and hair. My skin still feels incredibly dry and itchy if I don't remember to moisturize EVERY SINGLE DAY. It's a struggle >_<
The only reason I get up quite so early is because I've gotten used to that for work. If it were up to me I'd be up more between 6 and 7. I do enjoy the peace and quiet before the rest of the world wakes up, though, so I can't complain.

    3. How exciting! I hear Arizona is beautiful but you are right. It is hard to adjust from a very humid environment to an arid one. Going to Vegas a couple times lead me to cracked and bleeding noses and dry skin but the best hair ever. I would have to walk around in a blob of lotion if I lived there. I hope your skin acclimates quickly. I have a friend that moved to Chandler and she posts the most amazing photos of the landscape.
